Chapter Three

"Hey come in James; How have you been?" Gerard Chamberlain said heartily."

I have never been better Gerrard." James replied.

"Unfortunately for you mate, I am going on a trip."

"When will you be back?" James asked.

"Let's say, I will be spending a week," Gerard answered.

"Safe trip friend."

"Thanks mate." Gerard answered and left the house for the airport.

Gerard and James were close friends from their university days and they still continued that friendship.

"Oh! There you are." Roseline said as she came down the staircase.

"Gerard just left." James said with hands in his pocket.

"Yea I know; that's how he always does." Rose said

"Is anyone in the house right now?" James whispered.

"No one, except for you and I." Roseline said brazely.

James without wasting time rushed at Roselines lips and kissed her hard; and she responded to it with so much verve and vigour.

"Let's go upstairs." James suggested.

"We can't right now. Mendoza will be back

any minute now."

"Oh! What a drag." He said, feigning annoyance.

"Don't worry babe. My husband is out of town so you have me all to yourself for the next one week."

"Yea I know, but I want to always be with you for longer than that." He said dully.

"Be patient love; the plan is set in motion already."

"That reminds me, I promised to take Casey to the movies tonight," James said excitedly.

"I am afraid that won't be possible." Roseline said.

"And why is that?" He asked.

"Because she is having a bachelorette party;

Her friend is getting married tomorrow."

"Oh! I see", James mood was dampened.

"You can do that another time. No need to get all moody." She said while sitting on his lap and caressing his hair.

He closed his eyes as he enjoyed what Roseline was doiing to his hair.

"Excuse me babe let me use the restroom."

Roseline watched him as he left and started

to fantasize about him.

"Rose, get a grip on yourself." She soliloquised.

Ben's phone that was on the table rang and Rose went to look at the caller. There was a little bit of apprehension on her face.

"That was my phone ringing, right?" James asked.

"Yea it was." Rose replied.

James picked it up to check the caller.

"Oh! I forgot. I have an appointment I need to

attend right now. I will see you later babe."

He rushed out after kissing her on the lips.

As he opened the door, Mrs. Mendoza was just coming back from her outing. James just passed by her, without saying a word.

He did not like Mrs. Mendoza and she also did not like James.

"Buen viaje." she said in Spanish.

"What will you like for lunch?" Mrs. Mendoza asked Rose.

"I am not sure yet; give me a minute please." She said absent mindedly.

................................................................................

"Did you confront her about it?" Shelly asked James.

"I couldn't. I did not know how to bring it up."

"What do you mean?" Shelly asked infuriated.

"Get off my back Shelly." James said angrily.

"I won't James, until I see her cry and hurt

the way she hurt me all those years ago."

"Take it easy Shelly. But she is still your friend." Shelly was sniffing now, "but she is not family." She countered.

"But you have known her for a longer period of time, way more than you have known me." James said.

"We just knew two months ago that we were cousins but you have known Rose all your life."

"I have tried to forget that day but I can't, James." Rose said.

"She has to suffer the way I did then."

"So this is all about revenge for you coz."

She was teary eyes now.

"I am sorry James; I am sorry for getting so

emotional." She apologised.

"Its okay coz. So what do I do now?" James asked.

"But are you really certain about this?"

"Yes! Rose confided in me about it when she

confirmed she was pregnant two weeks after her wedding."

"How was she so sure, that it wasn't Gerrad's?" James asked.

"They did not have sex on their wedding night

and the next day Gerrad was off on a trip." Shelly said

"I am stunned coz. I really am; and she told you all this." James asked, surprised.

"She is my best friend; what do you think?" James did not respond.

"So James all you need now is proof to back your claim."

"Yea! I know that quite clearly".

"So you need to carry out a DNA test." Shelly said.

"But that will be difficult. How do we get a sample of her DNA coz?", James said worriedly.

"Leave that to me; how will you deal with Gerard?" Shelly asked.

"With all his connections, you won't find it easy, James."

"But his connections can't deny the true parternityof my daughter." James countered.

"Because this might drag to the court." Shelly added.

"Yea, I know and I will surely prepare but I am concerned how this might affect Roseline." James said sadly.

"Although, I should get mad at her for hiding this from me but I love her regardless of her giving my daughter to another man." He said.

Shelly frowned and made no response.

"It might ruin her marriage and reputation." He added.

"I can't wait for that to happen." Shelly said with hate and malice in her voice.

................................................................................

Rose was in a marriage that she didn't want to be in but she had no choice. The marriage to Gerard had been arranged when she was in college.

But Rose did not love Gerard the way people thought she loved him and the same could be said for Gerard towards her.

Rose was in the room when she heard a knock.

"Miss Shelly is here." Mrs. Mendoza informed Rose.

"Thank you. I will be down with her shortly." She said.

"Hi Shell!" Rose greeted Shelly when she came

downstairs.

"Hi Rose. How have you been?"

"I am fine dear friend."

"That is good to know, Rose."

"So what brings you by?" Rose asked as she sat down.

"Must I have a reason to come see my best friend?"

Shelly said with a frown.

"Apologies dear, I didn't mean it that way."

"Well I am here to see Casey."

"She should be in her room, upstairs." Rose said.

"We have a fashion event to attend this afternoon."

Shelly was saying as she found her way upstairs to Casey's room.

"She would absolutely love it." Rose said aloud as she went into the kitchen to see how lunch was coming.

Shelly found her a way, to Casey's room. She knocked but there was no response. Then she went in and noticed that Casey was in the shower.

Shelly sat down and waited for Casey. "I am sorry Casey but you have to know the truth; there was no turning back now." She thought.

...............................................................................

"I really had a nice time aunt Shelly," Casey said.

"I am glad you did dear."Shelly replied as they both collaspedy on Shelly's couch feeling tired.

"So what do I offer you Cas?" Shelly asked.

"A glass of scotch", Casey replied and smiled."

"Hahahaha". Shelly laughed. "You are still sixteen."

"You are a kill joy aunt Shell."

"A glass of juice will do young lady." She handed the glass to Casey.

Few minutes later Casey was dead asleep. Shelly waved her hands across her to ascertain that she was asleep.

"The drug worked faster than I thought." She said to herself.

Within minutes she got a sample of blood from

Casey. "This is the opportunity to get back at you, Rose."

She thought and then she made a phone call.

................................................................................

"We need to talk." James said to Rose when he

visited her three days later.

"You look angry Jamie. What is it?" Rose was concerned.

"Let's find somewhere private to talk." James was eager.

"Let's go to my room." Rose said.

"Are you sure?" James asked concernedly.

"There is no one around; I think," she said unassuredly.

"You think!" James exclaimed.

"Let's go, there is no one around." She finally said with certainty.

"Rose look me in the eye and tell me the truth,

who is Casey's real father?"
