After the burial of Sofia, Ben's mother, Ben and his sister continued to stay in the one room apartment. The apartment was part of the Farmhouse owned by Mrs. Palsy's.
Ben's mum was a housemaid in the farmhouse working for Mrs. Palsy. Mrs. Palsy agreed to allow them to stay on due to the persuation of people from the church Sofia attended.
But it was also on the condition that they did farm chores and not loaf around for doing nothing.
In spite of Betsy's condition, she assited her brother. Ben was feeding the pigs while Betsy was feeding poultry birds. While he was working he paused to rest.
His hands found its way into his pocket; he picked something out of it. It was a piece of paper that had an address on it.
The paper reminded him of the events of the day his mother kicked the bucket.

Flashback begins
"I am your brother," the boy in the hood said.
"That can not be." Ben said.
"Its true Ben." The boy in the hood said.
"What proof do you have and how do you know
my name?" Ben asked.
"My father is proof".
"Does it mean that ..?" Ben had a shocked expression.
"No! We don't share the same father", the boy in the hood said as he removed the hood. His face was visible now.
He threw a piece of paper at Ben,"find me."
Ben opened the paper. There was an address
On it.
Ben was looking at the piece of paper when the
boy in the hood vanished into the darkness.

"Ben, Ben, Ben....", Betsy called
"Oh! I am sorry B. What is it?"
"Where did you drift off to?"She asked concerned.
"Hmm. Something is actually bothering me."
"What is that?" Betsy asked.
"You recall I told you about how a certain boy returned the drugs".
Betsy did not respond. She waited for him to
continue.
"I didn't tell you everything." Ben was hesitant.
"What do you mean by everything?"
"That, it is possible that the boy is our brother".
"How is that possible?"
"I was also shocked but he sounded quite sure
about it." Ben said and handed the piece of paper to Betsy.
"That is the paper he gave me. There is an address on it."
Betsy scrutinized it, "so are you going to go?"
"I have not decided yet but I am curious. What do you think?" He asked Betsy.
"I think you should find out who he is and confirm his claim. He had no reason to bring the drug back to you, if he had no idea who you were." Besty said.
"So are you saying that.....," Ben paused when he noticed that Betsy was bleeding from the nose.
"Its been coming more frequently now. " Betsy said.
"When did this start?" Ben asked perplexed.
"Way long, before mom's death."
"You mean this has been happening and you said nothing." Ben said.
"I said nothing because it was nothing." Betsy replied
Ben gave her a hard stare, "I am alright Ben; it's really nothing." Betsy said but Ben was bothered.
"You have to go see him and find out who he
really is." Betsy said.
"I will go and find him later on, this evening."
Ben was anxious about the new mystery that
he had to solve but there was an eerie feeling
that he had about his sister's bleeding nose.
..........................................................................
Ben went to Wigston some few kilometers from
Leicester. He got to the address of the street
that was on the piece of paper. There he found a cottage.
He looked around to be sure where he was.
He went to the front of the cottage and knocked.
A woman answered and came to the door.
"Good afternoon ma'am." Ben greeted.
The woman scanned Ben from the top of his
head to the sole of his feet.
"I am looking for.....hmmm... huh, I don't know his...."She cut in,"come in." She said and left the door open.
Ben was skeptical and unsure.
"Are you coming in or not?" The woman at the door asked.
Ben went in and looked around the cottage. The woman the sat down coughing.
"You asked me to come in as if you were expecting me?" Ben said.
"Henry told me you would be coming." he said.
"I see. So where is Henry?"
She ignored his question.
"I am sorry for the death of your mother".
Ben said nothing. "When will he be coming back?", Ben asked again." Ignoring her statement.
As if on cue, Henry came in with his hood on.
"So you came." Henry said, expressionless.
"I had no choice, after what you told me." Ben said. Henry did not respond. He just found himself a seat.
"So please, start talking." Ben said impatiently.
"Ben, I know this is awkward but what we wiill tell you today is nothing but the truth." the woman said.
Ben sat down facing Henry.
"Ben, Sofia was my sister and it pained me that she died an unhappy woman." The woman said.
"What are you saying; Are you saying you are my aunt?". Shock was written all over Ben's face.
"Yes! I am your aunt."
"I wish I could believe that."
"The sickness finally got her", the woman said.
"You knew she was sick." Ben asked perplexed.
"Of course. We were living together." The woman said.
"Well, it was my fault she died." Ben said.
"It wasn't your fault. It was those Big Bo's boys." Henry said.
"But wait a minute, why are you all toying with
me?" Ben asked with a bit of anger in his voice.
"No one is toying with you. It is the truth." Henry said.
"So where have you all been all this while?" Ben asked.
"We have been here all this while." Henry replied.
"While my mom was dying, you were all here?"
"I am sorry, I wasn't a good sister to your mom.
"Ben, there are things your mom didn't tell you
that you will get to know today." Henry assured him.
................................................................................
Ben got home some minutes to 7:00pm and luckily for him Mrs. Palsy had gone to church. She was a very religious person.
Ben found Betsy in the barn feeding the horses.
"You should be resting B.' Ben scolded Betsy and looked at her with so much affection.
"I was bored; so I decided to come here." She replied.
"Its okay. I understand sis." Ben said.
"So how did it go?" She asked.
"He is our brother and his name is Henry and you also have an aunt."
"Really!" Betsy said excitedly.
"Aunt Mary, told me how mom traveled to the
United States with the help of Mrs. May, to work as a maid for his son." Ben said and continued.
"After a year, mom came back pregnant."
"Why did she come back?" Betsy asked as she wiped away blood from her nose.
"Is that blood Besty?"
"Yea it is. You can continue, I have cleaned it"
Ben gave her curious looked and continued.
"She said, Mrs. May's son was having an affair
with mom and the lady that was engaged to Mrs. May's son found out about it."
"Oh!" Betsy exclaimed.
"The lady threathened mum and after Mrs. May
died, she chased mum away with threats of killing mom."
"And our dad, whoever he is, didn't know that mom was pregnant when she left The United States?" Betsy asked.
"Yes. He had no idea." Ben replied.
"This is quite much for me to take in." Betsy said.
"Yea, it is for me to also take in, especially after
mom's death."
"I am suprised she kept all this away from us", Betsy remarked.
"I guess all this caused her to be depressed," Ben said.
"So how is Henry our brother?" Betsy asked as one of the horses she stopped feeding neighed.
"I am sorry boy." She gave it some hay.
Ben continued, "there's another sad story.
Aunt May's boyfriend raped mom a year after she gave birth to us; the act resulted to the birth of Henry some months later."
"Oh my God!" Betsy exclaimed.
"Mom couldn't stand living there any more so she left the house and left Henry."
"Where is Henry's father now?" Betsy asked.
"He is in prison for what he did." Ben said.
"Serves him right." Betsy said.
"Our family is really a weird one." Ben remarked.
"I wish mom was alive right now." Betsy said
reflectively.
"Betsy, what this means is that our father is
alive somewhere in America." Ben said.
"Yea he is." Betsy replied and started coughing.
"Are you alright B?", Ben went closer to her.
"I-I-I am Ben." Betsy gave a laboured response. The coughing intensified and the bleeding from the nose did not stop.
"Help! Help! Help! Ben yelled and few minutes
later, Betsy collapsed.
"How is she?" Ben asked Dr. Mekenzie immediately he came out to the reception."She is okay at the moment but she is sick." "But what caused her to collapse? Its not like, I over worked her on the farm." Mrs. Palsy said uncaringly. The doctor gave her a look that was laced with questions. Mrs. Palsy just looked away."She was weak that's what caused her collapse." Dr. Mekenzie said with the expression he gave her earlier. "But what caused her to be weak to the point of collapsing." Ben asked worriedly."Come into my office please, let's talk in there." In the office, Dr. Mekenzie continued,"We.did a test on her, after I noticed the paleness of her skin; I realized there was an issue." "What sickness?" Ben asked alarmed."She has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia; and the situation is not looking good." Mrs. Palsy said nothing. She looked disinterested."Doctor I am surprised because she never complained about feeling sick," Ben said. "And no one noticed anything sickly about her all this
"What kind of question is that James"? Rose asked with a stunned look."Don't toy with me Rose; who is the father of Casey?""Its Gerard of course; Whose else, would it be?" Rose said, avoiding his gaze."Then take a look at this." James gave her a piece of paper."What is this?" She asked; taking it from him reluctantly. She scanned it hastily and her expression changed suddenly like the weather. "How did you get this?" She said with fear written all over her face."It doesn't matter how I got it. Just tell me the truth."Rose was dumbstruck. She felt the world spinning round and everything was upside down."James how did you get this?" She asked again."Rose stop wasting my time and tell me what I need to know." James yelled."I do not know what to say." Rose said."Rose, listen to me," He said cupping her face in his hands. "Just speak to me; tell me the truth, please."She looked up at James and she was a bit relaxed."Casey, is your daughter." She said as she sank on the bed"
Thank you Mr. Harry." Mary said to her neighbor a former medic in the army. "She is conscious now but she needs to get to the hospital." "We will be taking her there tomorrow." Mary said. "She is in a critical stage. She might not pull through if this occurs again." Mr. Harry warned. "Thank you once again." Mary said Mr. Harry just nodded and left. "What do we do now?" Ben asked frenziedly. "I don't know Ben, I don't know." Aunt Mary sighed Henry was on the phone with someone. "Let me look at the things that I can pawn." Mary said. Betsy was resting but her paleness was very evident.Henry signalled to Ben for them to go outside after Henry was done with his conversation over the phone. "Ben we have to do something fast so that Betsy can begin chemo now." Henry said "Yea! she ought to have started it like yesterday." Ben replied. There was a brief silence. "But how do we get money?" Ben asked with worry as his companion. "I think I have an idea on how we can get money." He

It was some minutes to midnight and Ben and Henry were wondering why their aunt was not yet around."I guess the rain, couldn't let aunt Mary be here."Ben said."I guess so." Henry replied. They had not talked much since the incident at the jewelry store."What went wrong Henry?" Ben asked"I really don't know Ben." He replied"What do you mean that you don't know?""Exactly what it means; I do not know." He yelled at Ben"But you promised nothing was going to go wrong Henry." Ben yelled at Henry."I said so but things happen, right?" Henry said."This is Bad. Does it mean my sister will die?" Ben said aloud but more to himself than to Henry."No she won't Ben. She won't. We will get out of here and makesure she is taken care of." Henry assured Ben."It was some minutes after 1:00 a.m. and Aunt Mary was still not around. They both began to worry. "I hope nothing happened to her." Henry said.Ben did not say anything but he had that eerie feeling he always had when he felt something
Chapter TenTwo days later Aunt Mary came out of coma. At firstIt took her sometime to remember the events of the past few days that she was in a coma. But after some few hours she was able to recall what happened some few days ago."Your aunt is awake." Detective Chad told them. They were glad. They hoped that the four days they hadspent in the police station was going to end soon but theyboth knew things would never be the same with Besty gone."Can we go to see her?" Henry asked. He thought about it then nodded his head in the positive. They were transported there to the hospital, closely guarded and watched. When Aunt Mary saw the boys she was elated and glad."How are you boys?"She managed to say.Henry and Ben just looked at each other and said nothing."You ought not to have drove in the night especially with the bad weather." Ben said.If you both had listened to me, I wouldn't have done that""I am sorry Mary." Ben said."I can see the policemen outside." She said"Yes
"She had to go. There was no way I go take such a betrayal from her." Rose thought. She looked at Casey who was doing an assignment on her laptop."At least the secret will still remain a secret." She thought."Ma'am what do I do with the sausages and the beef?" Mrs. Mendoza came out from the kitchen to ask Rose. There was no reply from Rose. "Mom! Mom! Mom!. "Casey called."Oh! What is it?" Rose asked."Mendy was talking to you." Rose said."Oh! I am sorry Mendy." Rose apologised."It's okay ma'am." "What is it?" "You said I should let you know once I was done with the sauce for the spaghetti.""Yea I said so. So how is it with the sausages and the beef?". Rose asked."That is what I was asking you about ma'am." Mendy said. She gave her some instructions and Mrs. Mendoza left. Casey was just looking at her mother. Chapter 12"What's up Ben." Henry asked when they met in the yard of the detention. It was the place where they had time to exercise and relate with others that were also in custodyHe looked up at Henry and said nothing. Henry noticed he was looking at the pendant in his hand. It was given to Betsy by their mom.It was the only possession he had right now in his short existence in earth."I am sorry B; I really didn't get to know her and it pains me.""She was my twin but she was the stronger of the both of us." "Yea. It's obvious from the way she battled the pains during her sickness." Henry said."I wish she didn't come to this world with such pain.""I get you B; I get you." Henry said patting Ben on the back. The next day they all went to bury her. It was scarcely attended. Ben and Betsy did not have friends."How are you boys holding up in there?" Mary asked. She still had a bandage on her right arm and she walked with a walking stick."We are good Aunty." Henry replied."Ben h
