Accused

Prime-M is part of the top ten busiest business groups in Larian City. They have only been around for less than two years, but due to their consistency and good work ethics, they've climbed the business ladder without help from big families.

Inside, at an office on the 3rd floor, Asher, dressed in plain clothes, stood in front of a middle-aged man with ponytail black hair. He is the boss of Prime-M, Jaden Owen.

"Asher, you've been a good worker for this company. Your work ethic was perfect, and I received no complaints from any customer that did business with you in the past. But why is everything changing? Why did you steal one million dollars from the company?" Jaden Owen asked with a calm look on his face.

Although there were rumors that Asher stole the money, Jaden didn't believe it, as he didn't even trust the person who brought the rumors. In fact, that person was standing beside Asher – Catherine, dressed in a fine blue dress revealing a large part of her cleavage, and Brighton in his finest suit. Somehow, their attire almost made it seem like they were going on a date instead of working.

"Sir, not only did he steal the company's funds, but he even went ahead and spent it lavishly at Gold Lush hotel last night," Brighton revealed.

Today, he would make Asher pay and lose his job finally with the support of the boss.

"Gold Lush hotel?" Jaden asked. That hotel is one of the most expensive in the city, and only wealthy people visit that place.

"Yes, sir. Not only did he lodge the most expensive suite, but he even bought a black card. A black card costs two hundred thousand dollars; there's no way he could make such an amount without stealing."

Jaden sighed, "I wasn't talking to you, Brighton."

"Sorry, sir."

"Now over to you, Asher. Is it true that you spent such a huge amount at a hotel?"

"Yes, sir, exactly what he said except the part that said I stole the money. The money I spent there all belongs to me; I didn't steal any company funds."

"Asher, be honest; the cops are on the way already. If you are honest and return the money, I'll let you go and ask the cops to go back."

"Sir, I wouldn't be standing here lying to you about such a huge amount of money. I didn't steal any money. Even if you summon a whole army, I wouldn't be moved because I'm innocent."

"Innocent my foot," Catherine chimed in.

"Catherine," Jaden reprimanded; he hated it when someone disrupted him, especially when he was busy.

"Asher, if it wasn't you, then explain how you got your hands on the money you spent at the hotel. Where did you find such a large amount of money to spend?"

"I don't want to be rude, but I can't say it out. Why don't we wait for the cops to arrive before moving on with this."

Jaden, Brighton, and Catherine stared at him for a few seconds.

Jaden got really pissed; even if he felt Asher was a good worker that deserves care, he doesn't like it when they refuse to answer him.

"I won't ask a second time; tell me, where did you keep the stolen money."

"I didn't steal any money. What don't you understand about that?" Asher was also annoyed.

"Are you speaking to the boss in such a manner?" Brighton reacted, "It seems you have grown wings after eating money you didn't work for. Just wait till the police arrive and take you away and lock you in jail."

"Jail? I'm not going to jail, but some people are definitely going to jail."

"Some people? Who? Lol, you would get dealt with soon; I don't even have time to waste on you."

Sirens sounded from outside; soon, two gallant officers strolled into the meeting room.

"Mr. Jaden, we got your call; where is the criminal?"

Jaden pointed at Asher.

"You are under arrest; anything you say or do will definitely be used against you in the court of law where justice would be served."

Asher didn't even move. "Wait. I want to prove my innocence; I didn't steal it but I know who did."

"Now you want to speak; officers don't waste time; take him out," Brighton and Catherine yelled at the top of their voices.

"Let him speak," Jaden reprimanded.

The officers gave Asher the go-ahead to speak.

"First of all, I would like to ask, when did the money go missing? Exactly what time, was it cash or transfer?"

Jaden looked at Asher with a cold look; he stole the money and was trying to act like he didn't even know how it happened to appear innocent. He hated this kind of people.

But he still responded, "10:31 AM on the day you were fired by Brighton for messing up the routine for that day. About how it was stolen, it was in cash."

'Me messing up the routine? What the heck? Brighton come up with a better lie, damn it.'

"At 10:31, in cash, lol. Don't you guys know how to think?"

"What is wrong with you, why the insults?"

"Not you, Jaden."

Everyone in the room, including the police officer, was surprised. Asher dared to call Jaden Owen by his name so casually, like they are long-time buddies.

"That day, I arrived pretty late but not later than 9. I saw these two kissing right in front of the entrance, and then when I interrupted their show of affection, this bastard beat me up and fired me right on the spot. I passed out, and it only took the help of one man to keep me standing here.

How could I have stolen money if I didn't even get into the work premises fully that day?"

Jaden was surprised; the story Asher told was different from what he heard.

"If you think I'm lying, you can ask everyone, or wait, I have a plan to catch the real thief."
