A crimson-colored room. Scarlet curtains, a red rag with golden linings. Acid black chairs that are finely hand crafted, and cushioned by velvet seats and back rests. These are only some of the things that Zeke Elwood saw when his consciousness returned to him.
He can’t remember much. That is the truth. He knows that he’s been fighting against a great ogre after killing off all of the monster’s subordinates but, other than that, he can’t remember anything else. There is a big haze covering up the remainder of what he needs to pick up. Though one thing is certain, he’s now safe from any danger…for now.“Congratulations!” The voice suddenly made Zeke jump up and look at the direction where the voice came from.
He could’ve sworn he’s the only person in that room. Yet there he is, looking at another individual that is there, in the flesh, just like him. A tall and slender man with a predominantly black blazer, with bits of crimson red being added to it. This is the first thing that Zeke put his attention on because, there’s just no way he can explain why this creature has horns sticking out of its forehead.“You cleared the Forest of Trials.” The man added. “I’d expect nothing less from the human that’d be my champion.”
“You’re the one that sent me there?” Zeke asked right away, referring to the forest.“Ah but of course.” The creature answered. “I need to test a human properly before I pick them out as my champion so you had to go through all that first.”
“Who are you supposed to be?” Zeke then asked.
“You have a lot of questions for someone that should be keeping his mouth shut.” The creature smirked at Zeke. “But I’ll entertain your questions for now. As for the answer, I am Hephaestus, Lor of the Forge. God of Blacksmiths.”This explains why the creature has something close to an unsightly appearance. There is a wide scar on the left side of Hephaestus face and the features look both tired and old. Though the creature still looks respectable himself. Though if there’s one god here…that means that there are others. The gods of Olympus should also be there.”
“God huh.”Hephaestus raised an eyebrow. “You don’t even seem surprised?”“Well, I already figured that something beyond normal would be in charge of all this.” Zeke said. “There’s no way monsters would exist out of nowhere. There’s not way I would suddenly be brought out of school and into the forest in the blink of an eye as well.”“Hahahaha! You humans truly are an interesting bunch.” Hephaestus grinned.“What?”“You’re actually the only one that survived in this round. I’m supposed to have a total of five champions but, just one is also fine if all others are defects.” Hephaestus said. “The fights weren’t meant to be something that can be cleared. The difficulty, the lack of information, the suddenness of danger, and the inevitability of death closing in, all of that should’ve caused you to despair just like the rest. But you didn’t!”“What do you mean that I’m the only one that survived?”This puzzled Zeke the most. After all, there were no other humans there other than himself. That’s right. He’s the only human who was fighting against monsters in that forest. So this statement of the god, that suggested there are other humans, puzzled him.“Ah, I haven’t told you yet haven’t I? You’re not the only one that’s been forced into this shitty little game.” Hephaestus informed. “There are a total of a thousand like you…and only you survived. The only reason you didn’t see them is because they’re placed into a different forest similar to yours. You all have the same missions and goals but, you’re the only one that got through the second stage and, heck, even through the third stage.”As if on cue, Zeke began to remember everything that happened on the last fight. How he’s facing off against five powerful ogres. How two of these are burned to death by the leader of the monsters and, how Zeke is able to win by poisoning his allies…before he got engulfed in a sea of flames.“The third trial being cleared was basically out of pure luck. You’re not even supposed to encounter the ogres yet. That’s supposed to be reserved for the last quest. But since you encountered them early and, killed them before you completely got burned in flames, you passed.”
“Am I supposed to be glad or something?” Zeke asked sarcastically. “You made me go trhough all of that! What kind of stupid god would make a human go through something as dangerous as that?”
“For starters.” Hephaestus snapped his fingers. “It’s a god that’s willing to reward you.”“You’re going to reward me?”“Oh absolutely. I’m giving you a reward, the same thing that other gods do with their respective survivors.”
“What? You just told me that I’m the only one?”“Yes. On your division that is.“You see there are a total of twelve divisions that have been made for these fights. Each having their own impossibility in terms of difficulty and, each producing results. However, in your division, you are the only one that’s able to come out alive.”“Is that supposed to make me feel good?” Zeke asked.“No. But I’m sure the reward would.”“Just give me the reward already then.” Zeke said.
“But of course.” Hephaestus snapped his fingers a second time.[Choose your Job Class]
This option appeared in front of Zeke. It has the same interface as all the other system windows that he’s encountered with before. So he knows that it’s really there. And if it’s making him choose a job class, that can only mean one thing as well…that the fights are far from over.
“Hey. Is this a joke?” Zeke asked.“It most definitely is not. You see, the first part is nothing more than a preliminary test to weed out the weak and leave out the worthy. You are one of those. You are worthy to go on to the main stage!”
“And what will you do if I don’t comply?” Zeke asked.“You’ve got good senses mortal…”Bloodlust. Extreme and unfiltered bloodlust. That’s what Zeke felt and it is directed towards him. Coming from nobody else but the god of the forge. He felt as if he’s suffocating and running out of air at the same time. His legs weakened almost instantly and, his fingers trembled to the point that he can’t hide it. He can’t even stare at Hephaestus anymore. Instead, he simply looked at the ground. Not even daring to meet the gaze of this powerful creature.
“You should know the answer instinctively by now.” Hephaestus added.
Zeke felt himself cornered against a wall. That is how it felt like with this conversation with Hephaestus. There are no choices for him to make. Instead, all that’s left for him is to accept the fate being handed to him. This and nothing else.
“What do I need to do?” Zeke accepted his fate.
“Good boy.” The god smirked.“You, along with the other humans, are going to have a race. We want to see who among you would be able to defeat the Demon Lord first.”“Demon Lord?”“You are being sent to a world that’s similar to what you experienced in the forest. One that’s infested with monsters and with danger lurking at every corner.” Hephaestus explained. “There are a total of twelve kingdoms that each division will be sent to. Your mission, as soon as you arrive there, is to guarantee that you are the one that will beat the one true Demon Lord that all of these kingdoms combined have not been able to throughout the ages and – Oh my.”There’s the sound of bells coming from beyond the windows of the room. It stopped Hephaestus from speaking for a moment as, the god brushed the back of his hair and fixed his attention back on Zeke.
“It seems that time is up my dear champion.” The god of the forge snapped his fingers a third time. “You can choose your new job class once you reach Ragna.”
Zeke felt as if his whole body is enclosed in a kind of prison that he cannot understand. He can’t move anymore and his consciousness began to fade against his will again. All of these happened as the vision of the god and this room started to go away. But not before Zeke heard three last words from Hephaestus:“Good luck mortal.”Zeke’s consciousness didn’t fade completely. In fact, it remained in tact before it glitched out for five seconds. When it returned to him, he’s no longer in the crimson room where he talked with the god of the forge. No. Zeke is now in the complete opposite of this room. He’s in a completely empty space. There is nothing inside of it. Though Zeke is sure that it exists because, he can still move his body. To a limited extent that is since he seems to be going on a downward path. Evident by the way the breeze is hitting the back of his body more and, evident in the way that he can feel gravity pulling him down. This feels odd and uncalled for. Unless there’s something he needs to do in this place, then it would be better for him to just have been thrown straight towards the kingdom he’d be affiliated with. Thankfully, there is a purpose for him being caught in that state and, this came out right in that second.[Hello master.][I am your system. I will be your guide and helper throug
The sound of metal being hammered down spread across the four corners of the poorly lit room. Each strike resonated with the silhouette formed by the forge fire. Flames that are strong enough to burn those that have not been trained in the art of crafting weapons and armors. Within this space, there is a single person. A broad-shouldered man who has his long white hair tied to a bun. His eyes fixed on nothing else but his craft and on the repetitive hammering of the metal that lay before him. Heated to a point that it would seem like it holds magic. Yet it doesn’t. Not yet.The focus of the blacksmith that’s making the weapon seem to be scared. Something that nobody should ever invade until the hammering of steel is finished. Then, and only then, can a person speak. And that is precisely what happened as soon as the glowing metal is placed on water.“My lord.” A female voice said coming from the entrance of the room.“You have five minutes.” The blacksmith replied, not taking his eye
It is one in the morning. The sky is still filled with the night’s darkness. It would take a couple more hours before the two suns of Ragna rise over the horizon. The orange and the yellow ones that bring light and energy to this world. But before that can come to pass, there is the stillness of the night.Within the castle of the king, there is but a single light that is lit. Not on the chambers of the lord of this kingdom, nor is it on any of the quarters of the servants. Instead, the light is opened on the library of the castle. A large room filled with a multitude of books. And the one who is eagerly reading through a large pile on his table is none other than Zeke Elwood himself. He arrived in Forge Kingdom in the afternoon. He then followed his arrival with a well-deserved rest before being called for supper. Zeke gladly had his fill of the food which, wasn’t even that much for a feast. He can see that much effort has been placed into preparing the meal but, it doesn’t feel like
The following day, Sylvia woke up with a very bad headache. Nobody can blame her because, she did go through something very excruciating earlier that day. Specifically, the encounter with the hero of her kingdom, Zeke Elwood. She didn’t want to reveal the impoverished state of Forge. At least not yet. She knows that it’s difficult to hide but, she expected that it would at least take a couple of days before the hero pieces together the facts. But that’s not what happened. Unfortunately, Zeke found out within a day and, now, she has to think of ways on how to get the hero to be more appreciative of the kingdom.“This is it Sylvia.” She muttered to herself. “We finally have our own hero. We can’t afford to fuck this up.”She wanted to start the day by having the throne room inspected. After that, it’ll be cleaned by the maids. She doesn’t know why she hasn’t thought of this before. It’s such a simple concept after all. The throne room needs to always be presentable because, nobody knows
[Main Quest – Defeat the Demon Lord] This is the thing that’s displayed in Zeke’s screen. To be completely honest, he thinks that it is only right that this is called the main quest. But in games, there’s definitely other main quests that lead to the final one. Things that will move him closer to getting strong enough to face an entity as powerful as a demon lord. But that’s not happening. Instead, what he has are a multitude of side quests. A bunch of them that’s lined up for the same purpose that he mentioned. To make him strong enough to face the demon lord and, these are some of them. [Restore Economy of the Forge Kingdom] [Restore Military Prowess of the Forge Kingdom] [Restore the Dignity of the King of the Forge Kingdom] Basically, most of the quests that he has are on a scale that he has to help the Forge kingdom in some way. There are some that are an exception but, the thing is, if he wants efficiency more than anything else, then he has to begin with the quests
Before the night of Zeke’s first fight against the goblins. He first continued the discussion he’s having with Sylvia. One that had a space made after Zeke stated his job class. After he said that he is a Blacksmith Assassin. A statement that has now left Sylvia in a state that can only be described as being dumbfounded.“My lord, I think I didn’t hear you right. Did you just say that you’re a…”“A Blacksmith.” Zeke repeated, not even letting the dark elf finish with whatever it was that she was planning to say. And, he even added to be more precise. “An Assassin Blacksmith. That is my job class.”Zeke knows that, in this world, it is difficult to get your secondary job class. There are specific requirements that first needs to be fulfilled before one can claim this after all. In fact, it is so difficult to gain a secondary job class that the number of them within a kingdom won’t even go beyond a hundred. That is how rare they are.But Zeke’s already past all of that. He’s past the no
Right after the conversation with Sylvia, Zeke and the dark elf went straight into the heart of the city. The place where one specific blacksmith can be found – none other than King Heimdal himself. A king that rules over the dark elves and has made the most splendid weapons throughout the years. This is the introduction given to Daemon regarding the king. The very words that came out of Sylvia’s lips. He can see the enthusiasm on the face of the dark elf while talking about this very king which, tells him one other thing, that even though Forge Kingdom is in this state, the king isn’t someone that the people hates. At least not absolutely. In light of this, Zeke and Sylvia went down a spiraling path. It seems that the place they’re visiting is not above ground. No. It is under it. And as Zeke and Sylvia took what seems to be a secret route, they arrived, in the blink of an eye, to a door that stands in their way.Even outside, Zeke can hear the hammering of steel. There’s something a
“My lord, someone is here to see you.”These are Sylvia’s words as soon as she entered the forge. The king continued hammering down the weapon that he’s making. But he still found the time to give a reply nonetheless.“Sylvia, I told you that I’m busy didn’t I?” It’s at this point that Zeke felt the overwhelming difference between him and the dark elf that’s fixated on making the weapon before him. A large gap in strength to be exact that, he believes, is something that he wouldn’t be able to overcome any time soon. Not with his own capabilities at least. A challenge that he’s now gladly taken upon himself.“You seem to be a very busy person my lord.” Zeke suddenly said. He was told by Sylvia beforehand not to say anything until he’s given permission. But with the way that things are going, he knows that this would take too long. If he has to wait for the king to be ready, the time for them to hold a discussion may never come anymore. So he’s just going to force it and, sure enough,
