Chapter 4.

It had been a week of heading Ashland Company and Co. from home, he was trying to calculate his steps, for now, he wants to keep his identity hidden and even though it has been announced that the company now has a new head, he had told his parents not to mention his name, at least for now.

Brooklyn was back in his former house, where he lived with Stacy. His legs on the table as he scrolled through his phone, Stacy had texted that she wants to see him and he gave her a smooth excuse to show up, as he no longer works at his former job but paid every dime he owed.

He was on a call with his personal assistant, Darlene who had swore her allegiance to him to be more than just a personal assistant but his third eye.  Brooklyn was supposed to be in a meeting that morning but because Stacy was coming over, he told Darlene to reschedule.

When it’s time, he would change his looks, wear the dark tinted shades, pack his hairs and his fashionable mask that covers his nose and mouth, let’s not forget the one handed gloves. All of these were in a bag that was hidden somewhere in the room.

He knew that Stacy wasn’t coming to stay as she had packed out most of her things and so he wasn’t bothered about her moving around the house.

Brooklyn heard the sound of tire screeching and went to the window to check, he smiled to himself, Stacy had a new car now, must have traded the one they both share to buy this.

Looking at his hand, he quickly turned on the ‘silent mode’ and put the phone behind the pillow cushion of the chair he was sitting on.

“How long have you been waiting?” Stacy asked, not bothering to greet.

“Good morning, I’ve been waiting not too long.”

“So let’s get to the reason why I came.”

“That’s true.” I said, smiling.

Stacy looked irritated, like she couldn’t wait to get it over with, “I want a divorce.”

“Okay.”

“What?” Stacy exclaimed.

“I said okay.” Brooklyn said, rubbing his chin.

“Is that all you’re going to say?” She asked.

“Your mind is made up, it will be pointless to say things to counter it.” Brooklyn answered with all honesty, even though he was a little pained.

“You could at least try.” Stacy yelled in his face.

“That would seem like I am begging, I won’t do that.” Brooklyn said as a matter of fact.

“Do you have someone else?” Stacy questioned, Brooklyn reaction must have shocked her.

“Does it matter?” Brooklyn questioned, quirking his brows at her.

“How long have you been together? You’ve been cheating.”

Brooklyn bursted into a roar of laughter, “C-Che-cheating.” He managed to croak out admits the laughter.

“It’s not funny.”

“Of course it is.” Suddenly, he became serious, “You really cannot take what you dish. Stacy.. you’re the cheater here, not me. You are the one wanting a divorce and I couldn’t agree less with your decision. You want to leave, you can.”

Stacy was shell shocked, she has never seen him angry and yet so relaxed at the same time. She took a long stare at him and exhaled deeply.

“Well, I want the divorce because I have found someone else who appreciates and loves me more. He caters for my needs and I’ll be better off with him.” Stacy said, shrugging her shoulders.

“That’s fine. Olive stays with me. We wish you the best.”

She chuckled, “I don’t need an extra luggage and I’m sure she will be fine with you.”

“Did you just refer to her as a luggage?”

She rolled her eyes, “I’m just saying… I mean I don’t have to take her with me. She can continue to live in this cubicle with you for all I care.” Stacy gesticulated looking around the house in disgust.

“To be honest, I shouldn’t have married you because you were too good in nature, I’m sorry I did that to you and I’m sorry for breaking your heart.”

Brooklyn just sat there, his arms folded as he listened to the woman he had always loved and at this point he was glad she was leaving, and he was glad for the decision he had also made, he would find someone else worthy of his love and riches.

If he told Stacy about his status now, no doubt she would want to stay with him because of the money and the luxury life that comes with it but then, women like her are barely satisfied, she would still cheat on him.

Aside that, he was used to her disrespect but what he wouldn’t take is the disrespect against their child, if she didn’t love Olive, he loves her and Brooklyn would do anything for his daughter.

“Is there anything else you’d like to say?”

“No!” Stacy flatly answered and with that being said, she turned around and left.

Brooklyn brought out his other phone and he wondered what she would have said if she had seen him with it. She would have mocked him thinking he had saved up to buy it.

He texted the driver to stay at the block where he would meet up with him after he sees the landlord.

Leaving the house, he headed to the landlord apartment and told him he'd like to pay for a full year to maintain the house, he was skeptical at first because Brooklyn was dressed in his casual outfit and flashed him an innocent smile, he agreed.

To the world, he was still Brooklyn Ashland, the poor man that lives on the fourth street and down flat.

He was about walking down when his personal assistant call came in that he had a meeting and it would be a quick one, he has totally forgotten that he asked her to shift the meeting time because of Stacy.

Smiling, it’s about time to be behind the scenes.
