After insulted by the guy who insinuated Josias to be a homosexual, he strides out of the bathroom, slamming the door shut, and frowns at the lobby, forgetting to brush his teeth.
Teodoro is sweeping the floor excitedly to The Manhattans’ “Shining Star”, pretending that the broom was his dance partner. Josias for a few seconds forgets his anger and laughs at the scene. When Teodoro notices the boy, he disguises and returns to sweep normally.
“We just work, work... We get to have some fun, too.” He speaks in an apologetic tone, “How can I help you, Josias?”
“Seu Teodoro, can you at least put a sign in the men's room telling the men to close the door? Or rather, can you manage to separate the showers by a box?”
Teodoro stops sweeping, he’s looking questioningly at Josias. How many demands!
“What do you owe so many requests to, Josias?”
Josias gulps; he fears he has overdone his tone. Then he proceeds more calmly, “It's just that an unpleasant scene happened today. A girl who just moved here accidentally entered the men's room. But the door was wide open and she ended up seeing a guy all naked under the shower.”
Teodoro just chuckles. “Poor little girl, it was an accident. But, the bathrooms...”
“Yes, I know.” Josias adds, “The bathrooms are signposted. But, when we open the bathroom door, the jamb ends up covering the word 'masculine'. If the door was closed, the girl would have seen the sign and would not even try to open it. And there's more...” Josias lowers his voice, “I've always found this habit of leaving the door open for a shower to be somewhat bizarre.”
Teodoro realizes that he is getting to the bottom of the matter. “I understand, young man. You came from a more stable family, where each one has a turn to use the bathroom; and you’re now living in this building, where the bathroom is shared by everyone.”
“It is not that I came from a wealthy family. I just haven't gotten used to it yet. And the residents here make it more difficult for me to get used to it. And the worst of all was the jerk laughing at my face and implying that I was a sissy because I didn't want to see his dick! Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around?”
Teodoro gives a hearty laugh. “Son, it looks like you never played football or any other sport. When it comes to the locker room, this is exactly how you describe it. And nobody cares. Of course, you won't be staring... down there, all the time. Pretend they're in black tie and it’s enough.”
“Not really, in my adolescence, I didn't have time for football, movies, dating... I had to start to get by, because my mother was gone and my father was always messed up, he didn't stop at any job. That is when he got a job.”
Teodoro stops laughing. Indeed, Josias's life was not easy. Still, he notices Josias's stance when asking Teodoro to make arrangements for the men's bathroom. As far as he remembered the Bible, Josias was the name of one of the Kings of Israel. And Josias in front of him has some Middle Eastern features; if he grows a beard, he could pass for a Muslim. And Josias was speaking with narrowed eyes, a firm and determined jaw, a stern look... A real monarch, a sheik.
It was then that Teodoro understood why Everaldo said that memorable phrase, that Josias would be destined for big things, for a successful life. Josias had nature, had the posture of someone powerful, with authority, he always took the lead in matters. How he came to suggest improvements in the bathroom as if he were a partner in Teodoro and not just a tenant made it clear to the owner of the building that Josias had a bright future ahead of him. He was going to achieve what he wants.
“Don't worry, Josias.” Teodoro replies, “I will provide your suggestion.”
Josias smiles gratefully, noticing Teodoro's inquiring look. “What's it?”
“You didn't notice that you were talking to me as if you owned this building, did you?”
Josias is gaping, making gestures to apologize. “No, Seu Teodoro, no way! I didn't mean it, sorry if I was rude! It's just that assh—”
“Seu Teodoro, I need to talk to you about a sucker who is trying to put rules in the bathroom, trying to get over you.” The guy in the bathroom appears, shaved and dressed in overalls, probably to work in a mechanic shop. He smiles wryly when he sees Josias near Teodoro. “Ah, speaking of the Devil...”
“What is it, Jeremiah?” Teodoro asks without understanding that Josias was complaining about him.
The eyes of Jeremiah and Josias meet; the latter opens his eyes in irritation.

Chapter 3388 Damned If I Do, Damned If I Don’t
Sofia marched back into the Vaztrans headquarters, her heels striking the floor with a rhythmic, angry snap. She kept her gaze fixed straight ahead, navigating the corridors like a soldier trying to avoid an ambush — specifically, an ambush from her cousin. But if the universe rewards the virtuous, it seemed Sofia was currently on its bad side. As she pushed into her office, she found Luís already occupying the space, leaning against the wall with an expression that screamed I told you so.“Don’t start, Luís, DON’T START!” Sofia barked, slamming her leather bag onto the desk.“Who should start, then?” Luís asked, his eyebrows arching toward his hairline. “Your husband?”Sofia let out a sharp, jagged laugh. “My husband is sleeping on the couch.”“Be careful, cousin,” Luís warned, his voice shifting to a low, serious tone. “Husbands who are alienated by their wives usually look for comfort elsewhere.”“Alan isn’t the type to have mistresses. He won’t repeat his father’s mistake,” Sofia
Chapter 3387 The Outcome of a Wrong Move
Melissa didn’t just dislike the news; the very idea of her firstborn spending the night on a sofa made her blood simmer. She stood up abruptly, letting the scripts she had been meticulously revising slide off her lap and onto the floor, forgotten.“Son, what is happening in your house?” she asked, her voice sharp with concern.Alan looked down, his posture heavy and defeated. “Mom, the truth is, the mansion belongs to Sofia’s family.”“And so?” Melissa countered, her hands finding her hips. “Is that a reason for her to mistreat you?”“Let’s just say I’m being punished for something I did.”Melissa’s gaze softened into a maternal intensity. “What could you possibly have done to deserve such a thing?”“The article Carol wrote about Vaztrans, the one Sofia refused to be a part of... I was the one who gave her the idea,” Alan admitted, his voice barely a whisper. “Dad knows about it.”Melissa narrowed her eyes, processing the revelation. “Did you instruct Carol to leave Sofia out?”“No,”
Chapter 3386 The Price of Triviality
The clink of a silver spoon against a china bowl was the only sound in the Vazquez dining room. Sofia stared into her coffee, her reflection as dark and bitter as the brew. Across from her, Luís focused intently on his toast, as if the crumbs held the secrets of the universe.“Mommy, where’s Daddy?” A.J. asked, his voice echoing in the hollow space.“He went to work early, A.J.,” Sofia said. Her voice was a flat, cold line.“Aw, man. He didn’t even say goodbye...”“Get used to it. That is the life of a businessman,” she snapped, not looking up. “You’d better start learning that now.”Luís dropped his toast, his eyes flashing. “Cousin! Is that what you’re feeding the boy for breakfast? Cynicism?”A.J. froze, his spoon midway to his mouth, eyes darting between the two adults. Luís softened his expression instantly, reaching out to pat the boy’s hand. “Sorry, kid. It’s not your fault. Eat your cereal. I’ll take you to school today.”A.J. beamed, the tension leaving his small shoulders. “
Chapter 3385 Paying Respect
All Saints’ Day arrived, but for the first time in a long while, the Rocha family had no reason to darken the cemetery gates. Instead, the man they had almost buried was the one itching to go.Simeon sat at the breakfast table, his hands steady as he gripped his coffee mug — a small victory that hadn’t been possible a week ago.“I should be there,” he grumbled, his voice regaining its old gravelly warmth. “My father gave his name to the highway that connects Sunset Village to this city. He deserves a visit.”Josias wagged a stern finger at his father-in-law. “Absolutely not, Simeon. You’re staying exactly where I can see you.”“And your namesake now belongs to your great-grandson,” Melissa added, passing a plate of fruit. “I’m with Josias on this one, Dad.”Dora didn’t even look up from her breakfast, her jaw working rhythmically as she crunched on a piece of sourdough. “She’s right. By some miracle, we aren’t heading to the cemetery to visit you. Let’s not push our luck.”“You tell ‘
Chapter 3384 The Echo of a Revelation
At João Paulo’s house, the conversation between him and Josias continued. Both brothers sat with their shoulders squared, words chosen with the precision of a bomb squad.“You still haven’t given me an answer, João Paulo,” Josias said, his voice a low, steady rumble.João Paulo shifted in his seat, his weight moving as if the floorboards were made of thin ice. “What is there to say? If I tell you I didn’t mean for things to spiral, would the critics actually believe me?”“I would,” Josias countered, leaning forward. “I’d like to think my opinion still carries some weight in this house.”“It carries more than anything else,” João Paulo muttered, his gaze dropping to the rug. “And no, I have no desire to see Michelle become the next Suzy Cogo. I’m not looking for a sequel.”“Good. Then if she and Jake Cogo decide to make it official, let Maggiezine handle the announcement. They’ve been in the gutter longer than you; they know how to navigate the mud.”João Paulo tried for a weak, lopsid
Chapter 3383 The Fallout of Silence
The doorbell echoed through João Paulo’s house, interrupting the quiet morning. Helen swung the front door open, her hand immediately flying to her throat at the sight of her brother-in-law standing on the porch.“Josias?” Her eyes widened in panic. “Did something happen to Simeon?”Josias’s expression was a cool, unreadable mask. “No. But something is going to happen to your husband if he doesn’t learn how to behave. Where is he?”“He’s upstairs, getting dressed for work,” Helen stammered, stepping aside.“I’ll wait in the living room.”Before Josias could make it past the foyer, heavy footsteps hurried down the stairs. João Paulo appeared, his fingers wrestling with a half-tied silk cravat.“Brother! What brings you by?”Josias didn’t smile. “My father-in-law is no longer fodder for your gossip column.”Sensing the sudden drop in temperature, Helen hovered near the archway. “Can I get you something to drink, Josias?”“That won’t be necessary, Helen. But I do need you to give us the
