Chapter 45 Making Amends

Uélton and Josias do not gaze at each other. Since Josias entered his home, he has greeted his parents, but not his best friend. Uélton remained in the room until his mother asked him to eat.

Now the two are at the table, vis-a-vis, but without the courage to exchange half a word.

Josias understands that Uélton invented a story so as not to accuse him of aggression. Deep down, he was grateful.

“Too bad, Uélton, I didn't know,” Josias says not to leave the atmosphere boring. The best friend needs to say something.

“You, who are new to the favela, keep an eye out, my boy.” Mr. Freire advises, “Unfortunately, honest and hardworking people are at fault.”

“It seems that the more time goes by, the worse people get.” Mrs. Freire regrets as she elegantly cuts a chicken drumstick.

Josias resists the temptation to grab the piece of chicken with his hand, but it seems impossible since he took the wing. All the meat around the bones is being waste
