There’s panic and commotion on Raul Coelho Avenue, with the running over of Pamela. The blow that she suffered was so strong that she even flew for a few centimeters. She fell on the asphalt and is now unconscious.
“PAMELA!” Melissa screams at the top of her lungs.
The other students who approached the school flock to it. The driver gets out of the car and despairs at the scene.
“I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention! Why did she cross out of the crosswalk and all distracted?”
The students tried to blame the driver and discredit him, but Melissa defended him. She notes that the driver is black and burly; if he gets irritated, he may want to attack clueless students with punches and kicks.
“Jenny, go back to the slum and tell her parents!” Melissa orders, even though she knows that only Carmen will come.
Jenny runs out and crosses the favela, drawing the attention of the neighbors once again.

“I know the driver.” Josias says solemnly, “It's Tiago Bento, who lives with us. Excuse me; I'm going to talk to him.”Melissa and Uélton are amazed at the coincidence. Romualdo is also startled and narrows his eyes, but with one more reason...Josias approaches Tiago who is reporting to the police.“... And then she appeared out of the blue, walking distractedly, looking at the sky. She looked like she was saying a prayer to the Lord. I honked, I freed, but there was no time and she didn't wake up from the trance.”“Drugs?” The policeman asks insensitively.“Pamela is not a drug user.” Josias strikes firmly.Once again, Josias's temperament makes him defend people (mainly women) without being asked to do so. The policeman is irritated to see a boy in dirty cement clothes interrupting the questions.“Boy, wait your turn, if you can help us.”“O
Josias returns to the crowd that is beginning to disperse since Pamela has already gone to the hospital. The school principal screams at the students severely.“The recess is over, you bunch of lazy people! Everyone get inside the school NOW! Whoever cuts class will be disapproved!”Students run fearfully to school, some complain that they did not have time to mourn the accident. Melissa turns to Josias.“Honey, thank you so much for coming.”“I didn't do anything, Melissa,” Josias says.“Just being here has already nurtured my heart.” Melissa smiles and Josias smiles back.Jenny appears and pulls Melissa by the uniform shirt. “Come on, or the principal is going to drop us off!”Melissa says goodbye to Josias and runs to school with Jenny. The principal makes a face at them but allows them to come in.Uélton smiles and gives a little shove in Josias's shoulder.
Josias gets upset when he sees the walkman in Melissa's possession, and concludes that this was Fabrício's gift given to her.“Is this the gift?” Josias asks, trying not to be rude, “I heard about this news. How much did it cost?”“I do not know.” Melissa replies serenely, “I didn't open the package until I got home. I didn't expect it, but it was a good gift.”“I'm glad you're enjoying it, Melissa.” Josias gives a faintly smile.“Come on, honey, let's go to the kitchen to prepare dinner,” Dora calls her daughter and winks at Simeão.Simeão, who wanted to talk in the kitchen, sits down again on the sofa. Josias sits down on the other sofa and vis-à-vis him.“So, young man, is that what I'm thinking?” Simeão asks with an easy face.“I want to know first if I'm not too late.” Josias heaves a sigh of discoura
Melissa screams when she sees her younger brother fight with her current boyfriend. She gets up from the couch.“William! Stop it right now, Josias and I are dating!”William looks back at Melissa, hardly believing what he heard. He is gaping and extremely shocked.“What did you say? You two... did he manage to seduce you? Damn bastard!”Josias takes advantage of the distraction and gets up, pushing William away. He rubs his face, but nothing is bleeding.“Anyway, brother-in-law, it looks like we're going to have to learn to get along for the peace of the family.”“You will never be part of our family, you worm!” William voices upset.“William!” Melissa screams even louder.Dora and Simeão leave the kitchen to see what's going on.“Hey, what’s this shouting over here? William, what are you doing?” Simeão asks, taking control as he
Josias enters as if he were Gene Kelly about to sing “Singin’ in the Rain”. Teodoro is still at the reception desk, waiting for him.“Ah, boy, I don't even have to ask!” Teodoro comes out from behind the counter and hugs Josias tightly, like father and son. Then they let go.“I need to make arrangements with Uélton to go to church. God is being generous to me, Seu Teodoro, and I need to thank Him.”“Yes, Everaldo's promise is being fulfilled,” Teodoro remembers Josias when it all started. Josias looks up, out of respect for God.“Well, the only thing that didn't work was my future brother-in-law,” Josias speaks with a hand to his face, where the punch was. “As soon as he saw me try to kiss his sister, he punched me very well.”“Jeez, you weren't doing anything inappropriate, not in the middle of the father-in-law's room.”“We were right in
1981In the high school arena, in the evening, the prom took place.Couples formed by students, teachers, and some parents danced to the sound of "Just Like You", by Carly Simon.Among them, Josias and Melissa are dancing.Simeon and Dora were also dancing, recalling the time when they had their ball.William is furious at the dating of Josias and his older sister. He is sitting by the candy table, eating in anger. Countless girls ask him to dance, but he refuses, not in the mood for it.As Melissa had planned, she had managed to get Wallace to lend one of his suits to her boyfriend, and now Josias is looking good in a navy blue suit and tie.Melissa's dress made her look like a princess; it was pink, with short sleeves and lace details, plus a red ribbon at the waist. The school pedagogue prowled among the couples and took notes: she is evaluating who is going to win the crown of the king and queen of the ball. When the
After hearing from Dr. Silvana that Pamela could be pregnant and have miscarried, Carmen feels that the floor has disappeared in front of her.How can this be possible? Did work her plan to go to Josias's bed? Was Josias the father of the child?Dr. Silvana tried to explain. "It is possible that fertilization took place this week. We will still see, Miss Chaves, but one thing I guarantee: there was not only blood on the patient's pants. Excuse me."Carmen didn't even dare to call her parents after that information. She decided to wait a few more hours until the blood test results. When the result came out, Carmen eagerly read the sheets that were handed to her: a Pamela egg was fertilized and was just beginning to form, but with the impact of the accident, Pamela's body could not support it and expelled it, in the form of bleeding...Well, six-month-old fetuses can't take hard knocks, let alone an egg of a few days! However, if Pamela was no
Pamela exclaims at the top of her lungs. "Are you crazy? Where did you get that I got pregnant?"Carmen remains cold and icy. "There is no point in denying me, Pamela. During medical procedures, Dr. Silvana discovered that you are no longer a virgin. And that you unintentionally ended an embryo that had just begun to develop. It may be that you stayed pregnant for a day or two, but the accident caused you to miscarry."Pamela listens to everything with wide eyes, terror on her face. Was she pregnant? And did the pregnancy last that short? After pondering this for a few seconds, Pamela buries her hands in her face and starts to cry desperately. She cried, screamed, yelled countless 'no', sobbed, and trembled in the hospital bed.Carmen does not know if this was crying for mourning the baby's death or if it was crying for thanks for getting rid of an unwanted pregnancy."Now do you understand the consequences of your actions?" Carmen tries to discipl
