Double Crossed

The following morning, a man dressed in a suit delivered a parcel to Richard. He identified him as one of the bodyguards of the Parker family. After collecting it, he walked to his bedroom and opened the  parcel. Inside it was the divorce papers and without reading, he signed them. Richard didn't need to read anything, he had already made up his mind to cut ties with Cassy

He didn't need to read to know that Cassy would not include any clause about the child, if anything, she would state that the two of them disappear from her life.

She didn't need to say that again, he would get lost and start a new life with his daughter far away from Cassy and the Parker family.

After signing the papers, he carried them and made his way to the hospital. He found his daughter still asleep and the doctor said that they induced her with a drug to keep her asleep. She was weak and in pain and no painkiller seemed to work on her.

" Mr Williams, you have to hurry up. We don't have time to wait. Your daughter is in a critical condition and she might lose her life." The doctor advised before walking away.

Richard left the hospital hurriedly and made his way to Parker Manor.

He was still carrying the divorce papers with him.

Today, the guards let him pass and Richard figured out that Cassy must have Instructed them to allow him to pass.

He didn't have time to think more about why she would do that as he raced with his biker through the pathway that led to the manor. All he had in mind was his daughter. The doctor's words did nothing but add to his anxiety.

The bike came to a halt infront of the huge manor and Richard jumped off immediately, making his way to the grand entrance of the house.

Richard could count with one hand the number of times he entered the house. It had to be during the birthday celebrations of the old Mrs Parker.

Everytime he came here, he would leave more embarrassed than when he arrived. They never made an effort to gossip about him behind his back, on the contrary, everybody would make sure to voice out their words of ridicule and insults loud for others to hear.

To them, it was a source of entertainment.

His wife Cassy would say nothing , not like any of her words would stop her family from mocking him.

Richard didn't have to walk to the house before Cassy appeared from inside. Her hands joined intimately with William Carter's while her mother Susan helped the old lady Parker outside.

Richard halted in his steps and his eyes involuntarily landed on Cassy's hands which were locked with William's.

He also noted that she had a sparkling golden ring on her ring finger while the marriage band he got for her during their wedding was no longer there.

A lump settled in his throat but he pushed it down, albeit with difficulty.

He smiled bitterly inwardly. Afterall, he was nothing but a poor pauper who could give nothing to his wife while William was the next heir of the Carter family.

Richard could not help but laugh at the irony in front of him. Cassy chose William because he was richer than Richard. What she didn't Know was the fact that Richard, her poor husband, could be considered a billionaire in terms of assets and even cash.

She didn't trust him and chose luxury over what they once shared. A woman like her was not worth him nor was she worth his  wonderful daughter.

"I believe you have signed the divorce papers." William said as his hands snaked Cassy's waist provocatively.

Richard however ignored him, his gaze travelled to Cassy.

He was in no mood to chit chat with anybody. All he wanted at this point was to get the money wired to the hospital to facilitate the operation.

" I have fulfilled my side of the deal, you should do your part." Richard said. His words angered William who could not believe that a pauper like William would afford to ignore him.

Cassy instructed a servant to retrieve the documents from Richard. After getting them, she inspected them carefully and true to his words, he had already signed his part. All that was left was to finalise the divorce and officially become Mrs Carter. She had thought that she would have a hard time convincing Richard to sign the divorce papers. She had even come up with different ways of threatening him to give in. Who would have thought that his daughter would get sick, giving her the perfect opportunity to blackmail the man into divorcing him. It appeared like the gods were helping her.

She could not control the smile that ghosted her lips.

William leaned, reading the papers and saw that the hateful man finally agreed to divorce his beloved.

" Honey, all we have to do is submit the divorce agreement and then we can finally get married." The man shamelessly declared, kissing Cassy on her lips.

Richard looked away. He wasn't going to watch his wife, oops ex-wife do gross things in his presence.

He could tell that William was trying to get him riled up, only that at this point, it didn't affect him.

He had already killed whatever love he felt for Cassy. If anything,he hated her.

" You can go back. Cassy said she would wire the money but she has no money in her account and I refuse to use my hard-earned money to save your bastard daughter." The old lady Parker finally said. Her words felt like sharp arrows laced with poison hitting Richard's heart.

Richard looked at the old lady with disbelief. His eyes then trailed to Cassy who had an unapologetic look on her face.

" Are you going back on your word?" Richard found himself asking. They had a deal and he delivered his part so why was she double-crossing him.

" I did say I'll pay for your daughter's hospital bill but I don't have that kind of money in my account. I thought that my grandmother would lend it to me. You heard her so there's nothing I can do " Cassy retorted.

" Leave before I ask the guards to drag you away. You are not associated with this family in any way so never step foot here. Also, this world would be a better place if both you and your daughter died. Why don't you just die and save yourself the pain of watching your daughter die because that's what will happen. She will definitely die since you can't afford her surgery fee." The old lady said, walking back to the house with a cane supporting her.

Cassy's mother stepped towards Richard before her hand landed on his cheek.

" I have always wanted to do that. You useless piece of trash. Who said you could seduce my daughter and get away with it? I am just glad that she opened her eyes before it's too late. You don't deserve her. Only someone as rich and powerful like William deserves my daughter's hand in marriage." Susan spat before walking away.

" Honey, can you wait for me inside? I have something to say to your ex husband." William said and although Cassy was hesitant, she at last walked inside, leaving a dumbfounded Richard with William.

" Tsk! Look at you? So pathetic!" William spat with disdain.

" I have always hated you for being able to marry Cassy so I vow to make her mine. I succeeded and she will finally become my slave. If you know what's best for you, you'll disappear from my sight right this minute. Take your bastard daughter away because when I see you again, I'll make sure you are dead." With that, William raised his foot and landed a kick on Richard's chest.

Richard stumbled and fell down while William burst out laughing before walking back inside.
