The dragon empire

Richard smiled faintly. At the end, she could not wait to kick him and his daughter away from her life.

He didn't need to think about what his answer would be. He would choose his daughter in a heartbeat.

He finally realised that there was no longer Cassy and him anymore and that only his daughter could stick to him no matter what. She was his priority.

" Alright, I'll sign the divorce papers. Make sure to wire the money to the hospital immediately." Richard said, turned around, climbed his bike and went home.

The divorce papers will be delivered to him the following day and he will sign it as long as his daughter can get the treatment she needs. He no longer saw the need to fight for an already wrecked ship. Since she wanted them out of her life, he will take his daughter away after she is treated.

Richard arrived at his neighbourhood and parked his bike then made his way to his house.

When he touched the lock of his house, he felt something was amiss. He was immediately on alert as he twisted the lock and entered his house.

His eyes swept through the house and landed on the men standing around his sitting room with one man seated on a chair.

" What's the meaning of this Michael?" Richard asked, his expressions cold as a domineering aura emanated from him making the men in black tremble.

" Long time no see  young master Richard." The man Richard identified as Michael earlier greeted, walking towards Richard before bowing his head slightly.

" I am no longer your young master. What the hell are you doing in my house and who said you could come in as you please?" Richard asked, his voice a shade black. His tone was authoritative and full of suppressed anger.

" We are here to see you, young Master. It's about time you go back to where you truly belong. You have been fooling around for the past five years. Your father sent me here to ask you to go back." Michael said, his expressions serious as he tried to match Richard's own.

" I am not going back to that family. Go tell your master that I will never set foot to his empire again. I am not going to serve him as his lap dog again." Richard spat venomously. You could hear the deep hatred from within his words.

" I think you misunderstood your father, Young master. All he did was not use you but train you to take up the position of the next leader of the dragon empire." Michael reasoned out in an attempt to explain his master's actions.

One might think that his master used his son to get rid of their enemies when in actual sense he was training the boy to be a formidable figure who would lead the dragon empire with an iron fist.

" Whatever reason he might have, that doesn't change the fact that he sent me to my death and did nothing to look  for me after I went missing. Why are you here? Are you facing another enemy whom you want eliminated? Is that why you are here looking for me?" Richard asked, his voice sharp and words pointed like an arrow.

" No, the empire is not facing any difficulty or an enemy. It's about time you go and take over the management after successfully passing the poverty test." Michael said, a wide smile painting his lips.

" What do you mean? What poverty test?" Richard's face was marred with confusion. He doesn't remember signing up for any poverty test so what was his father's Butler talking about?

" Do you think you could escape us by simply changing your last name? Your father did not come to you after you got discharged from the hospital because he wanted to see if you could survive the trials of life. He had always trained you physically and mentally but you lacked knowledge about life and humans. That's why we have been watching you secretly and protecting you. Why do you think you never got attacked by any of our enemies? Do you think it's because you disguise yourself well and did not get recognized?" Michael asked with a knowing smile that irked the shit out of Richard.

Now that he thought about Michael's words, it's impossible that nobody in the whole of Los Angeles recognized him. He was known to have terrorised many families in the whole of the United States. He was a mercenary in his father's empire and was responsible for taking down any enemy threatening their business and family.

He had wreaked havoc in many families, casinos and underground movement. His face was associated with terror and death because if he came searching for you, that would be your last day.

With such a reputation, he was bound to have a lot of enemies seeking a chance to finish him off.

After waking up in that hospital bed five years ago, he went into hiding but a year later, he showed his face to the public. Nobody seemed to recognize him nor did he encounter his skeletons in his closet.

For five years he has been living without any worry in the world. Who would have thought that he was being protected secretly.

He had to give it to whoever was lurking in the shadows protecting him for doing a good job of remaining undetected.

" That doesn't change the fact that i don't want to return to that family, at least not yet." Richard softened his stance, adding a yet in his excuse.

He had to have his daughter saved if he wanted to return to his family.

Since Cassy wanted him to get out of her life, that's exactly what he would do and what better way to do that than going back to his family?

He had decided to stay away from them and stick around his family but now he had nothing keeping him around anymore.

" You have to make up your mind as soon as possible. Your daughter needs surgery to save her life. That can be arranged also." Micheal said and Richard shook his head.

" I have a deal with my wife. If I sign the divorce papers, she pays for my daughter's surgery fee." Richard refused immediately.

If possible he didn't want to overly rely on his family. He might be returning home, but that doesn't mean that he was ready to become what they wanted him to be.

If he was returning, that was because he didn't want his daughter around Cassy and the Parker family. She was better off with his family than around the Parker family that despised her very own existence.

" I can bet my life that your wife will not fulfil her  end of the deal even after you sign the papers." Michael said but Richard shook his head.

" She wants nothing to do with us so she will want to have us out of her life." He reasoned.

" All the more reason to not pay so that your daughter does not get well. How about we make a deal?" Michael said, his eyes blinking expectantly to Richard.

" I am listening."

" If your wife pays for the fee,you can take your time to return to the family but if she doesn't, we will settle everything for you and ensure the young miss gets all the treatment she needs. You will then return to the family immediately in exchange." Michael proposed and although Richard felt like there was no need for the bet since he trusted his wife, he still nevertheless agreed.

Michael left with his men, leaving Richard lost in his thoughts.

After tomorrow, his life would probably change forever.

He was not sure whether he was making the Right decision by returning to his family.
