Commotion

Chapter 8

There was commotion everywhere as people began to run away.

Jack with the help of one of the security immediately lifted Caleb into the car and quickly drove away while some went out in search of the shooter.

Caleb's father was called and he immediately entered the car and drove straight to the hospital.

When he got to the hospital, he was told that Caleb had been rushed in for surgery and the doctors were doing everything they could to make she he survived.

Caleb's father who was the chairman walked up to where Jack was and slapped him hard across the face.

"I'm sorry sir," Caleb said bending his head in shame.

"How did this happen?! What were you doing?!" The chairman shouted at Jack.

"I'm sorry sir, it happened so fast that I could not do anything about it," Jack explained.

"All of you are incompetent morons! I think my son had been too soft on all of you which is why you guys had the guts to show this lack of responsibility." The chairman continued shouting.

"I'm sorry sir, we are sorry sir," Jack explained.

"You had better pray that my son survives this assassination, if not, you all will join him." The chairman threatened.

Jack and the rest of the security guards shivered in fear because they knew the chairman was not someone who makes empty threats.

Whatever he had said that he would do, he was going to do it irrespective of who was hurt in the process.

Jack was about to say something when Caleb's uncle who was also the chairman's brother came.

"What are you doing here?" The chairman asked his brother.

"Calm down brother, I heard my nephew was shot so I came to see him." Micheal the chairman's brother said.

"Away with the pretense Micheal, we both know that you are very happy about this whole situation." The chairman said.

"Ouch, that's very harsh of you brother, if people hear you speaking, they will think that I was the one behind this assassination attempt," Micheal said.

"Oh, and what makes you think that I have ruled out that possibility after all, you have been advocating for him to be dismissed as the CEO." The chairman accused.

"That I will not take Mr. Chairman! I might be ruthless when it comes to business and the company's growth but I will never hurt my blood because of position." Micheal countered.

"Oh please, spare me the shenanigans, I know very well what you are capable of but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and after I am done with my investigations, if I find out that you are behind this, I promise you, you will see the side of me you never imagined I had." The chairman said and walked away leaving a speechless Micheal.

Outside the hospital, a man in a black hoodie was on a phone call with an unknown person.

'Yes he was shot in the heart but he had been rushed to the hospital and I'm currently there but unable to go inside because the chairman had stationed security details there to be watching him.' The man explained.

'Alright, watch from a distance and keep me posted.' The mysterious man instructed.

'Noted boss.' The man said and ended the call.

After over six hours of intense surgery, the surgeon was able to remove the bullet and Caleb was stitched up.

He was then placed on oxygen and he was wheeled to a private room in the hotel and the chairman stationed security guards at the door.

The doctor came out to meet the chairman to give him the report.

"So doctor, what is the news?" The chairman asked.

"The surgery was successful as we were able to locate the bullet on time and remove it but I have your son to thank for he made it easy for us." The doctor said.

"What do you mean?" The chairman asked.

"It appears like your son knew that he was going to face an assassination attempt because he was wearing a bulletproofed suit." The doctor explained.

"Wow, that's surprising." The Chairman commented.

"It's is but we have it to thank because he was shot directly in the heart. I tell you sir that whoever did it was a professional and he never meant for your son to survive it." The doctor said.

"Hmm, thank you for your hard work doctor, I will make sure you and your team get rewarded for it." The chairman said.

"Thank you, sir, but sir, do you know who would have wanted your son dead?" The doctor asked perplexed.

"Don't bother about that, I will handle it." The chairman answered forcing a smile.

"Alright sir, we will keep checking on him and we will give you feedback." The doctor said as he walked away with his exhausted team.

The chairman's forced smile immediately disappeared from his face as the doctor left. He then called for Jack.

"Jack, you have been working with my son for a very long time and I know that there is nothing he does that gets past you also you were with him yesterday when before the incident this morning." The chairman said.

"Yes sir," Jack replied wondering where the chairman was going with the talk.

"Did my son know that he would be attacked?" The chairman asked Jack who was stunned by the sudden question.

"If he was aware sir I don't know because he did not tell me anything about it," Jack answered.

"Are you sure?" The chairman asked.

"Yes sir," Jack answered.

"So did you notice anything suspicious about him when you met him and before you guys left this morning?" The chairman asked.

"No sir, but I could remember last night while he was speaking with some of the hotel staff that he received a text and his countenance changed briefly for a few minutes before he hastily finished his discussions with them and told us to leave," Jack revealed.

"What was in the text?" The chairman asked.

"I don't know sir, he refused to tell me when I asked him about it," Jack answered.

"Alright, is that all?" The chairman asked.

"Oh, now I remember, he suddenly asked that a suit be delivered to him late last night, I don't know the person he sent to deliver the suit," Jack said.

"Alright, that will be all." The chairman said and he was about to leave when an alarm started blaring from Caleb's private room.

The nurses and doctors all began to run to the room and when they got there, they saw the security assigned to guard the room lying down unconscious on the floor.
