Chapter 9

The chairman ran towards the room but he was held back by the doctors.

"What the hell is going on?" He shouted.

"Please sir, you have to wait outside, let the doctors do their work." One of the doctors said.

"What nonsense! How did this happen?" The chairman asked no one in particular.

"We don't know sir, but the security team is already checking the CCTV cameras." The doctor answered.

It took some minutes before the Chairman was able to calm himself down and await the doctor's feedback.

After some while, the doctors came out.

"How is he?" The chairman asked.

"Luckily, he is fine, I think the assailant was yet to do what he came to do before he tripped and mistakenly hit the alarm." The doctor explained.

"Great, what about the securities that were drugged?" The chairman asked.

"They are currently undergoing treatments but once they are awake, we will let you know so you can question them yourself." The doctor said.

"Alright, what about the CCTV? What did they find?" The chairman asked.

"You will have to come with us to see it, sir." The doctor said.

"Alright! Lead the way." The chairman replied as he followed the doctor.

After checking the security cameras, they could not identify the assailant because he was putting on an all-black outfit and they also could not get his fingerprints because he was putting on a black glove.

"This is a dead end but we will get to the root of it, just take care of my son and make sure he recovers quickly and leave the investigation to me." The chairman said and walked away.

Meanwhile, Jenny was beginning to miss Caleb.

Apart from helping her grow her business, he was also the one to do the house chores.

After spending just a few hours with Henry, she was beginning to miss Caleb but she refused to dwell on it.

She continued making herself beautiful because Henry had told her to meet him in an expensive restaurant for a dinner date to celebrate her divorce from Caleb.

When she was done, she put on the necklace he had bought for her.

She checked herself one more time before she left the hotel room he had lodged for her for their vacation.

As she stepped out to the entrance of the hostel, she saw a picture of someone who looked like Caleb on a banner with a text written under it: WELCOME BACK CEO.

She laughed at herself that she was being paranoid because she was missing Caleb so she quickly dismissed the thoughts and entered her car and drove away.

When she got to the expensive restaurant, she met Henry already there.

She smiled as she sat down opposite him.

"You are looking beautiful." He said.

"Thank you," Jenny said blushing.

Henry ordered a mini expensive wine and some food.

They started making small talk and eating when a lady suddenly barged in took a glass of wine and poured it on Henry.

"You bastard cheat!" She screamed.

"Baby, I'm sorry, I can explain," Henry said shocking Jenny.

"I don't understand, what is going on here?" Jenny asked standing up.

"Shut up you cheap slut!" The girl said as she dealt Jenny a slap across the face.

"How dare you? Henry baby, can you see what is going on?" Jenny turned to an embarrassed Henry who was speechless.

"Keep quiet! How dare you call my husband your baby?" The lady said.

"What? Husband? Henry, are you married?" Jenny asked.

"Yes," Henry answered quietly.

"How could you? You made me divorce my husband and bought me this limited edition necklace after telling me that you will marry me." Jenny said already close to tears.

"It was never my intention to marry you, I only approached you because I wanted to get back at Caleb because I know you are what he values most in the world," Henry confessed.

"What?!" Jenny said shocked by what she just heard.

"And mind you, this necklace is fake, he bought the last original one for me." The lady said and dragged the necklace from Jenny's neck and hit it on the table and it shattered to pieces.

Jenny was shocked, at first she had not believed what the lady said when she said the necklace was fake until she saw it scattered on the floor.

"As for you, we will meet at home, and don't bother showing up in my father's company again, we are divorced and you are fired!" The lady said and stormed out.

"Baby wait!" Henry said and ran out to meet her.

Inside, Jenny was speechless, she could not believe that she had traded true love for a fake necklace and a relationship that was built on lies. As she was still thinking about her mistakes, news came on that caught her attention.

CEO OF EVERYGREEN LAND CALEB SMITH WAS SHOT IN THE EARLY HOURS OF TODAY IN AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT AFTER HIS RETURN FROM A LONG TRIP AND HE HAD BEEN RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE HAD BEEN OPERATED ON.

One of the news read and another reporter took over.

AFTER THE SURGERY WHICH WAS SUCCESSFUL, AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT WAS MADE AGAIN BUT IT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL, HE IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING TREATMENTS BUT THE REPORT REACHING US IS THAT HE IS STABLE AND WILL SOON BE AWAKE.

Another reporter took over.

SUSPICIONS ARE HINTING AT AN INSIDER THING DUE TO THE RECENT POWER STRUGGLE GOING ON IN THE COMPANY.

Jenny looked like she had been slapped across the face when she saw Caleb's picture, she then realized too late that she had made the biggest mistake of her life and she held her chest and began to cry.

Henry came back inside and met the restaurant in commotion.

When he tried to find out what was the cause of it, he found out that it was Jenny who had fainted.

He quickly took his things and ran away from the restaurant leaving Jenny to her fate.

Three days later, the doctors examined Caleb again and they saw that he was more stable. They reported to the happy chairman.

Two days later, Caleb was awake but he came back a changed person.

He already knew who was after his life and he vowed to take his revenge.
