Vivian burst out laughing. The euphoria on her face could not be hidden. She felt deeply satisfied seeing Alison and Paula's expressions, a retribution she deemed appropriate after what Alison had done to her. She had been expelled from the auction held by the general, and this was an outlet for her anger after the deep shame of being expelled from the event.

"This is all karma for her arrogance, as if the world revolves around her," Vivian taunted triumphantly. "When she's just a stupid woman who was too careless in choosing a husband."

George, listening hatefully, nodded in agreement. "I thought so, too," he said sarcastically. "She's so stupid that I'm sickened and disgusted. If I were a woman as beautiful as she is, I would choose a richer man. There's no way I'd marry that poor Carson."
