Vivian and George looked surprised at Carson's request. "A hundred times?" Vivian asked, her voice trembling with disbelief.

George could only stare at Carson with wide-open eyes, incredulous at the punishment that seemed so unfair to them. It was too much, in their opinion. They felt angry and confused. It seemed impossible that they should be punished in such a way just because of a bit of anger. They had only yelled at Alison a little. Just a little, they thought.

Vivian turned to Nora, hoping she would help them out of this situation. "Grandma, help us!" she said in a pleading tone.
