Chapter 11: Messing with my mind

Wordless, Edgar held Elnora in his arms as a drop of tear lined down his cheek, she was cold in his arm and her face painted in her blood, a huge feel of sorrow erupted from within, at that moment it felt as real as life loosing her. His face squeezed in confusion when he felt his arms empty of her presence, he stood up hastily as the place suddenly became foggy. It was a dream after all.

"Prince Edgar... " Aegen's voice called him to reality as his eyes shot open, his eyes met the worried gaze of Aegen which soon switched to relieve, it was past his wake time, just how long had he been asleep? Aegen aided him as he sat up, his eyes now glued to the door entrance where his maids stood with their head bent. He still felt the sting of pain from the dream and it took a while of silence before his mind and heart could recover from it.

" Just how late am I? Edgar asked, his eyes fixed on Aegen who obviously had a lot of questions running through his mind.

"Not too late my Prince, the maids had come to get you prepared for the day but you weren't responding to their knocks which is very much unlike you, so they called me instead. I'm sorry I had to barge into your room, I was quite worried you weren't responding as well." He explained

"Oh... " Edgar got out of the bed and stood by the window side, his eyes narrowed in a bid to contain the whip of sunlight on his eyes. He took some moment recollecting all that had happened in his dream, his hands still felt like the really held Elnora just now, he was convinced that it wasn't an ordinary dream, how so, it happened the day of her treatment. He was not comfortable with the fact that she was to be left alone with the physician but then it was proven that she was no witch.

He paused abruptly in his thoughts as he remembered seeing the creature weckle in his dream, it depicted clearly the description he had read in books, his mind was working really fast, what if Fiona was one? Weckles could take on human appearance and behave like one even though in their real form they behaved nothing like humans, he snapped out of his thoughts, it was ridiculous of him to think so. What if he brought up the accusation without prove and probably endanger the physician's life once more. This was their only hope, Earl had not been willing to help and he wasn't sure if he had received his message through the carrier hawk.

He rubbed his temple roughly as his head ached from his thoughts.

"Are you alright my prince? Do you need me to call the physician? Aegen asked worry plastered over his face.

"No it's fine, I'm good, you may leave now, the maids will take over from here. When I'm ready I'll meet you at the training ground." Aegen was about to leave when a thought registered on his mind.

"What about the princess? You may want to skip training today and stay by her side. Aegen was the head of Edgar's bodyguards and most trusted, so his relationship with the prince had grown to a friendship level, though Edgar maintained a close and more friendly relationship with his guards, if he had a secret Aegen would be the first to know.

" Certainly would love to be there when she wakes up but for some reason I prefer to train and be greeted with the news of her wake." He said calmly, while Aegen simply nodded at his reason before taking his leave.

It was the third day already and according to her mistress after the third day, the magic would start wearing off and her skin bound to peel off but the compeller had only made things quicker, the itching on her knuckles became worse and she tried as much as possible to hide her irritation from the maids assigned to her. They were preparing the herbs in the kitchen while she supervised them, the place suddenly fell silent and when she turned to know the reason for it, Edgar's heavenly smile greeted her, they all bowed greeting the prince as he made his way to stand in front of her. His gaze on her made her uncomfortable like he was searching for some hidden answers.

Clearing her throat she spoke, "what brings you here my prince." She forced a smile trying to cover up the awkward feeling his presence brought on her.

" Good day to you too milady."

"Pardon my manners i was caught off by the surprise visit."

"No worries, I came here to ask for a favour." He looked at her studying her uneasy expression.

"What can I possibly do for your highness?"

" I know you warned against the strong scent of the herbs but I would like to stay with my sister, the princess at least for the beginning part."

Fiona observed a moment silence as she tried supressing the anger that built up in her. She could feel her inner bring protesting to jump at the prince to free itself of it's disgust for him. Her eyes twitched as if realizing something.

"Could it be... No no, it's not possible but I did hear some footsteps at night. Did he follow me? Why is he asking for such ridiculous favour?" She cursed within, swearing under her breath. "I'm sorry my prince but I have to decline, I cannot put you at risk."

"But...."

"Maybe if you ask the king's permission, that way I would not bear the consequences of any harm brought upon you, then the request may be granted." The maids looked at her surprised, she had just cut the prince off from talking and he didn't seem annoyed by it rather his expression showed defeat.

Edgar knew he couldn't ask that of his father, King Egbert was not going to do anything to disrupt the process, he could see the visible annoyance in Fiona's face and it made him more suspicious. Then his eyes went from her face to her hand and she was in the business of scratching her knuckles, she gasped as she noticed Edgar's eyes on it. She quickly covered the exposed part with her sleeves and Edgar withdrew his gaze from her. He could see she was tensed and acting all strange and it got him even more suspicious.

"I'm sorry if ... If I'm a bit nervous before you but I hope you understand that i had just been spared from death yesterday and though I act fine I must confess I am a little traumatized from it. I am scared that you might grow suspicious again and this time... This time kill me even when I've done nothing wrong. Your presence alone scares me and I am just but a physician who only wants to help." She said getting all teary, her acting skills were excellent as she delivered her lines that it got Edgar feeling guilty for doubting her.

"I understand, do what you have to do, just makes sure the princess wakes up." He wasn't totally convinced but she looked genuine at the moment, he thought maybe the dream was messing up his mind or he was thinking way too much. " In that case I'll leave you to continue." She remained silent but curtsied while he left. She sighed in relieve the moment he was out. She reached out inside her robe as she felt pains and when she brought out her eyes widened in shock, her skin was already peeling off, she quickly hid the the peeled of skin in her hands, she needed to begin the treatment as soon as possible, it was only a matter of time before everyone knew what she truly was.

"My lady are you ok...?"

"Fast! I mean go back to work we need to hurry so I can begin the princess treatment." Her initial scold had frightened the maid who only wanted to know if she was fine. Fiona scould sense the fear in them, she knew of their suspicions as they had been closer to her to steal glances of her changing look and behaviour but soon it would be over and she wouldn't have to deal with all this again.

The herbs we're ready and the maids had taken the stoves to the princess Chambers were it was to be heated, Garret along with some guards escorted Fiona to the princess chambers. As she walked she could feel the skin on her face about to slide down with each closing step.

"Too damn slow... Move it move it! She scolded within, her tension was building up rapidly, her heart stopped as they finally got to the door. "Finally," she smiled within as the door to the princess chambers opened.

"Everything is in your hands now physician, we pray for your success." Garret said in a hopeful tone, Fiona simply nodded trying not to speak. The moment she set a foot out to proceed to the princess chambers she gasped as she felt the slidding of skin from within her robe. She looked down on her feet and though the robe provided coverage she knew that some pieces of skin was right beneath her and moving from it would leave it exposed to the eyes of the guards. Her whole being was now frozen to a stand still
