Chapter. 8. Extinct Hope

Harpyie grabbed my hand. She wants to take me somewhere. However, I refused before Harpyie gave an explanation. Wasn't she going to punish me for failing a task? What do you mean by failure? Isn't everything on the right track? I just sucked a little of the blood of those who wanted to erase their memories. Memories that make anyone they can not live life.

"Yes, yes, yes. Your task is indeed on the right track. However, you have never completely solved the problem of the creatures who want to be erased. Except for a few. But I didn't count them," Harpyie grumbled, pursing her mouth.

"You mean—" Before I could finish speaking, Harpyie had pulled me into a portal that had suddenly formed in front of us.

In the dimensions of space and time. My body seemed to be twisted, slammed, and torn apart. I experienced a kind of turbulence in dimensional space and time. Surprisingly, the Harpyie didn't seem to have experienced what I had. Her face looks normal. Yes, rather flat and tend to look stupid.

"Hey, I heard your thoughts, Claude!" Harpyie also had a chance to smack my head while traveling in the dimensions of space and time. I forgot he could read my mind.

We arrived at a place that I thought was very familiar. Basement hotel, where I help a woman named Kartika.

"This place, isn't it..." I paused.

"Yes, this is the place where you delete Kartika's memories." Harpyie looked straight at his voice so cold.

"Then?" I asked curiously.

"Look at this!" Harpyie raised her palm.

An hourglass tipped stick appeared suddenly. "I borrowed the wand of the god of time. I will show you the results of your failed task."

The harpyie pounded the wand on the ground three times. A ray of light shot out from the end of the hourglass. Like a movie scene played backwards. My surroundings sped up fast. And that's where I saw myself waking up after waking up from Kartika's flash. I immediately left Kartika next to Pandu who had fainted.

Moments later, Pandu regained consciousness. At first he was dazed, not understanding what was happening. I saw the look on Pandu's face, which was originally confused, and seemed happy because he saw Kartika lying unconscious beside him. Pandu slowly approached Kartika. He pats Kartika's cheek to wake the girl up.

"Kartika, hey! Get up! Why are you lying on the basement floor?" said Pandu.

Harpyie glared at me. I cast my gaze upwards. It felt like the sharp glare of Harpyie's golden eyes had pierced my chest. Soon Kartika opened her eyes. He was shocked and screamed away from Pandu.

"Let go of me you bastard! Who are you to touch me without my permission?" Kartika shouts not recognizing Pandu.

"It's me, Pandu," Pandu replied, patting his chest lightly, "you were unconscious on the basement floor, so did I. It's just that I was-" Pandu's words were interrupted by Kartika.

"What? I was unconscious on the floor? You might do something to me. Don't come any closer! I don't know who you are. One step forward, I'll scream!" threatens Kartika who suddenly doesn't recognize Pandu.

Again the Harpyie snapped the wand, this time only once. Suddenly Kartika and Pandu fell silent. Time has stopped for them. Strangely, not to me.

"You see! You erased all of Pandu's memories so that Kartika didn't recognize Pandu because the memories of him from the introduction until the moment before you bit Kartika, disappeared without a trace," said Harpyie, annoyed.

"Well, isn't it good that memories of that bastard boy are lost in Kartika's memories?" It's true what I said. If Kartika has lost her memories of Pandu she can move on with her life without being overshadowed by the memories and guilt of her best friend for trying to take Pandu away. Harpyie slams a fist into my stomach causing me to fall into a sitting position holding my stomach in pain. "You crazy bird! Why did you punch me?" I shouted.

"Who said it's good? You bastard! Look at this next scene." The harpyie snapped the wand of time.

The scene is back on.

"Kartika, don't joke. It's me Pandu, the lover you love so much," said Pandu trying to convince Kartika who didn't recognize him at the time.

"I don't know who you are! Go away! Stay away from me, you stalker!" Kartika shouted, stepping back to avoid Pandu.

Pandu stared savagely at the exotic-skinned woman in front of him.

"You bitch. Don't pretend you don't know me! I got my hands dirty causing Nina to get into an accident. Until my unborn child became a victim of your wish that we could live together forever!"

"Nina? Who is Nina? I don't know? Stop talking nonsense. Go!" Kartika snapped.

Pandu didn't seem to understand. His face looks confused with Kartika's attitude.

"What has happened to you, Kartika? Stop pretending. There's no way you'll forget who I am or Nina… wait a minute! Before I was about to attack you, suddenly a red-eyed man appeared who blocked me and beat me unconscious. Yes. that man must have done something to you!"

I don't know what influenced Pandu's mind until he ambushed Kartika. Kartika's body collapses with Pandu on it. Pandu violently tore Kartika's clothes, he wanted to harass the woman. Kartika screams for help. Luckily there were several hotel staff who seemed to be going home to catch Pandu hurting Kartika.

Pandu was dragged and beaten by several male staff until Pandu was helpless. The two staff took Pandu upstairs, it looked like he would be handed over to the authorities for legal processing.

Meanwhile, Kartika is assisted by female staff. My heart beats fast. Pandu still remembers me earlier. The Harpyie grinned scornfully. As if satisfied to find a loophole in my assignment.

"Do you know what will happen next for Kartika?" I shook my head.

Because they don't know what will happen next in the life of the hotel receptionist.

"Kartika was severely depressed after the incident. Apart from Pandu's attack. In Kartika's house there are many photos of her memories with Nina that she hasn't thrown away before her memories were erased that haunts her. She doesn't know Nina but why are there so many memories while Kartika can't remember her memories with Nina for so long."

I was stuck not knowing what to answer. It's just why I feel guilty about Kartika's fate. But isn't it clear that my job is only to erase memories. Honestly, actually the problem of how the fate of the person I lost is none of my business.

"None of your business? Are you crazy!" Harpye's hard drive. Again he read my mind.

"Well, it's your business because your job is related to mine." The Harpyie looked furious.

He tapped the stick of time against my head. "Now then, come follow me again!" asked Harpyie dragging my hand roughly.

"Where else?" I asked.

The harpyie didn't answer but once again the two of us passed through the gate of the time and space dimension portal. Where else am I going to be dragged by a Harpyie? I give up now. Then we arrived at a cemetery.

I recognized the headstone bearing the name Christina Oswald. In front of the tombstone the music box I put is still there.

"Miss Alma, what's wrong with her? Isn't she able to move on with her life without any regrets for her child?" Damn Harpyie glared at me. His face showed anger.

Once again the stick of time landed on my head. This time it was loud enough that I groaned in pain. Then the Harpyie snapped the wand three times. A scene when Miss Alma woke up after I left her in front of her daughter's gravestone. When she woke up, she suddenly became hysterical. As if she couldn't believe the name written on the gravestone right in front of her.

"No way! There's no way Christina died," cried Alma, "Oh my God. Why can't I remember what happened to Christina? Nooo!" I held my breath. I watched Alma run from the cemetery. I rubbed my face. What else did I do wrong this time?

"Alma's fate is the same as Kartika's. She is seriously depressed. Even though her ex-husband has told her what happened to her daughter and hopes that Alma can continue her life. But how do you want to continue with her life? What happened to her daughter is not in her memories." Harpyie explained in an even tone of voice. I still don't understand where I went wrong. Really without a clue what did I do wrong?
