Conquest: Life in a VR

After being dismissed from the selection, everyone went their ways, the heroes sent out their party telling them to meet up the day of departure, they intended using their remaining days in the empire to rest up, Toda on the other hand had gone through a lot, he thought how he landed into a game finding out it was in fact real life, and the fact that he could die with the most fatal of attacks landed, then witnessing the power Gaius and the others displayed during their training, he told the team to meet up the following day.

It was day and Toda was ready to head out, he was stepping out of the castle when he encountered Gaius, he was about avoiding him, then Gaius spoke, “you heading out to train?.” Gaius asked smiling at Toda, Toda couldn’t avoid the question but he didn’t reply, “You’re a strong man Toda if not the strongest around, you just have to believe in yourself and let out that power, don’t over work yourself and I’m here if you need anything.” Gaius said as he gave Toda a hug and moved on, Toda on the other hand became calm, he liked the fact that Gaius looked out for him, he then remembered the advice Gaius gave him on communicating with spirits, he made up his mind that he’d establish a connection with a spirit during his training, Toda walked out of the castle and just at the gate waiting for him was his team, he walked out to them, and as he got to them they all took to their feet.

Toda not being used to such treatment asked them to get up, the ogre raised his hand to speak, Toda strained his eyes at him and told him to speak anytime he felt like, “My lord, where do you intend on taking us today.” Toda shook his head, “firstly, no calling me ‘my lord’, i really don’t know i want us to have an open field where we can train and familiarise, does anywhere come to mind.” The rest kept quiet and then the ogre spoke again, “yes, master at the outskirts of this town just before the holy church, there is an open forest there.” Toda agreed and asked that they head there at once. The party was about leaving when one of the guards walked up to Toda, “my lord, are you heading out, if yes, ride in the royal coach.” Toda looked at the guard and asked why he called him ‘my lord’, the guard didn’t reply, Toda told him he won’t be riding, the guard took to his feet, “i beg of you, the emperor asked that a coach be provided to all the heroes to ease their movement, if you don’t ride I’ll be locked in the dungeon.” Toda looked to his team and they all nodded, he agreed and the coach man showed them to their coach, they got there and the rest of Toda’s team was left speechless, “one of the twelve legendary coaches, pulled by the holiest of stallion’s, the winged chariot.” The whole party worded out, Toda turned to them, “so this coach is like a big shot or something.” The Ogre looked to Toda, “my lord surely you jest, Toda smiled and as he turned to the other side of the coach he notices the horses are winged and had nothing binding them to the coach.” This coach was meant for the gods as the Pegasus were already tamed and by them so when they move they are connected to the coaches by magic.

They got into the coach and told the coachman where they were headed, the Pegasus moved out and after an hour they got to their destination and Toda told the Coach man to leave and that they’ll be spending two days at the forest. The coachman left and then Toda turned to his team and started to speak, “You guys are first of all, my comrades, my team, I’ve gone through a lot in the past weeks, I’ve encountered many unprecedented happening in the past weeks, and made many choices i never planned on making, but one thing i know is that, here and now, this is all real, we made a choice yesterday and that choice will decide our life turnout, left for me i do not want to die, and I’m sure you also want to live, one thing vital in this party is trust, trust the other man with your life, because when push comes to shove we all are as vulnerable, i will trust you all and with my life, i will also look out for you all, because right now and here the ‘CONQUEST’ has begun.” The team took to their feet, “sure i selected you all because i wanted to use you, as from now use me as you deem fit, I’ll like to know you all well, so if you can introduce yourselves with your skills and spirits, also some of your abilities.”

The female elf stood and spoke, “Master, i apologise for keeping quiet while you spoke, you see my clan are high nobles, we don’t just respect who is put in our front and called a hero, they have to gain our respect, after hearing the way you spoke i now know that you deserve even more than my respect, you deserve my life, i am Milara, of the Dark Elf, From the Elven kingdom of Zoremos, I’m a skilled Archer, and i have weapon mastery for projectiles no matter what they are, i have been blessed by five spirits and i can perform fire and wind magic easily, i also have a fair amount of speed.” Toda was happy the words he said had some effect on the people, another voice could be heard, “i am Hunter, of the demi-humans, i was a skilled assassin before i joined the holy knight, i have been blessed by four spirits, i have aptitudes for fire, air and dark magic, my strongest skill is assassination, it kills my enemies on a spot, whoever is impaled by my blades will be struck by a powerful poison with no cure and will die after a minute, the price for using that skill is my life source.” The whole party became shocked that he actually gave out his trump card even Toda, the human spoke up, “I’m Nanaho, but you can call me Nana.” Toda gave a surprised look, “Did you say Nanaoh.” Toda asked for clarity, “Yes, any problem master.” Toda wave his hands and smiled, “not at all, carry on.” His said thinking in his mind, ‘is she Japanese?’ the lady smiled and continued to speak, “i am a skilled mage, i cast an unbreakable barrier, i also have a low casting time, which means i can cast without a spell and i can also cast continuously as long as i have enough magic source, i have been blessed by five spirits.”

After she spoke finally the ogre spoke, “master, i am Audrey the prince of the proud ogre race, i turned down the offer to be a king, and chose to fight off evil, I’m a master swordsman, studied all samurai skills, knight skills, some assassin skill ,martial arts skills and kenjutsu skills, I received blessings from six spirits, i have a very high aptitude for fire and average for air and water, I’ve mastered the black flames and am yet to perfect it, i hope I’m useful to you master.” Toda smiled and Told them everything he understood about his skills, “Now that it’s done, Audrey, you’ll be my second, when I’m not around you’re in charge, Hunter you’re our Recon man, you scout the area for danger and keep us posted always, Milara, you’re in charge of our welfare and also in charge of setting traps wherever we camp, hunter can help you with that, finally, Nana, you’re in charge of our health, feeding, potions, Audrey will inspect you all, now that we’ve done that we can start training.”
