LITTLE HERO

"Relax, little Daniel, I mean you no harm. If I did, you wouldn't still be alive," Theodora whispered and smiled up at him.

Daniel cursed incoherently and took steps backward. "You are a witch and your words are not to be trusted. By the way, I'm not little. Can you not call me that again?"

Theodora chuckled and waved her hand in the air and a soft warm air began blowing around them. She took a thorough peek at Daniel and shook her head. "You're only but a kid to me, so I'll keep calling you little Daniel. You can't stop me, can you?"

Daniel stared away from her without saying anything knowing that there wasn't anything in the world that can stop her from doing whatever she wanted and liked. He wrapped his arms across his chest not being able to stop his shivering body and kept looking around at every sound that chimed.

"I guess that's settled then, little Daniel. Let's take a walk. I kinda need company."

"Why would I do that? I can't be seen walking around with a witch who does nothing but kill and destroy."

She scowled at him and he took more steps backward. "You do whatever I ask you to. I hope you don't provoke me because if you do, your family and perhaps your silly lover will pay dearly for it. And you will live all your life in regret."

Daniel sighed, caressed his cute chiseled face, and tousled his hair. Beads of sweat appeared on his forehead and trickled down his cheeks. "I'm so tired and was heading home. I've not seen my parents since the breaking of the day. I need to at least know they are fine from your...," he paused and zipped up his mouth.

Theodora grinned and winked at him. "It's good to know that you all have my name and actions playing on your lips. Now, let's go. I'm tired of standing."

Daniel, not having an option, sighed and trailed behind her not wanting to stand side by side with her.

"Come on, little Daniel. Come stand by my side so we will discuss while we go." Daniel increased his pace and in no time caught up with her. "Good little boy" she giggled.

They kept walking without muttering anything but she suddenly cleared her throat and took a second to peek at him before staring away. "What do you think about Hilton Bale, little Daniel?"

He cursed incoherently once more due to the word she was adding before his name and glared at the innocent air. "Hilton Bale used to be so peaceful and was a land full of joy and happiness. In those peaceful moments, we used to play from day to day not caring about harm. But then you came back and everything shattered. You spoiled everything. My people... Your people live in panic and pain. You brought sadness and death into our sweet land."

She shut her eyes for a while, glanced up, waved her head, and wiped her face. "What do you know about death?"

"It's a pain-filled feeling. Leaves people shattered and broken. It can also make one seek vengeance if being on the better side to. It's just a feeling one shouldn't really feel."

"Ever lost a loved one?" Her voice came out barely audible that Daniel had to stretch his ears to grab it. He took a glance at her but she looked elsewhere so he wouldn't see her face.

'Is she in pain? Why are her eyes misty?' he thought as he stared away."I haven't really lost a loved one. But I almost lost my parents to you."

Theodora let out a burst of startled laughter.

"Not funny!" He scowled at her and placed his hands in his pockets.

She glanced at him, wide-eyed. "Being courageous now, huh?" She laughed more.

"I'm not." Daniel sighed. "I'm shivering within me and just need to get away from you."

Theodora threw her head back and chuckled without saying anything and everywhere became silent.

"Is..Is the rumor true?" Daniel suddenly stuttered, breaking the silence.

"Which rumor?" She asked, fidgeting with her fingers. She knew what he was asking but decided to pretend not to know just to prolong their conversation and also get him to say it.

"About your parents. Rumour has it that they were murdered by our fathers years ago. Are they really dead?"

Theodora breathed out and turned away from him, ignoring his question.

"Sorry for bringing that up. But when will you stop killing?"

An evil grin appeared on her face and she waved her hands in the air as if commanding a choir. "I'll stop killing when every soul in Hilton Bale is gone to the afterlife."

"Including me?" Daniel asked and his breathing quickened.

Theodora chuckled and clapped her hands. "Including you Daniel. You all will die."

Daniel flared up, clenched his fists and kicked the air. "Why are you so wicked and brutal? Don't you have even an atom of conscience? So despicable!"

Theodora let out a tight-lipped smile and squinted her eyes while shaking her fists.

Daniel instantly shuddered and drifted away from her, keeping a very considerable distance between them. A great wind began blowing around her and her hair began flying around.

Her eyes turned blazing black and her body began glowing. "You all will surely die! Your deaths have been written in the depths of my heart and even in the sky!"

"I'll never let that happen!" Daniel not being able to control his emotions, roared.

"You?" Theodora laughed and crossed her arms. "Might be your parents next, little hero. I'll love to see you weep in anguish! I'll love to see you scatter things out of rage! And all I'll do is laugh and celebrate."

"I'll fight for my people. I'll be their hero. And I promise you that one day you will surely be on your knees and beg me for mercy because I'll surely defeat you!" Daniel barked, pointing at her.

"Many have tried and failed over the years. You can still try. It was nice speaking with you, little Daniel or should I say little hero?" She giggled and vanished. A bolt of great lightning flashed at her departure giving space for a great downpour.
