The Reunion

Vincent didn't have to wait or text his father his account number. Only while getting up, he received an alert of two million dollars wired to his bank account.

There was a phone call from the bank itself but Vincent ignored it. Where were they when he needed their help? They were the same people who insulted him at the bank and refused to loan him any money for his mother's treatment.

Now with this amount in his bank account, Vincent was sure they were calling to congratulate him but he didn't need their hypocrisy.

The doctor which Vincent slapped, approached him with two security men who worked for the hospital.

"There he is. That's the guy that slapped me." the doctor said, pointing his finger at Vincent.

"Sir, you will have to leave the hospital immediately." one of the security men said to Vincent.

"What is the hospital paying you?" Vincent asked.

Neither the security men nor the doctor expected that sort of question from Vincent.

The doctor laughed, "What are you about to do? Bribe them? You don't have a dime to your name! Everyone knows that!"

The doctor then turned to the security men, "Go ahead and tell him. I'm curious to see what happens next."

The two security men exchanged looks with each other and then faced Vincent, "A monthly pay of hundred dollars." they both answered.

Vincent scoffed, "You're following his orders just for pennies? You know what? I'll pay you guys twenty dollars each right now if you both switch to being my bodyguards."

"You expect anyone here to believe that? Ha! We all know that is a bluff!" the doctor said to Vincent.

"Boys! Take him out of this hospital at once!" the doctor ordered.

The security men began closing the gap between themselves and Vincent but Vincent looked unbothered.

Rolling his eyes in boredom, Vincent asked for their bank account number. It was like the two million dollars sent to his account gave him a boost in confidence. The confidence he never knew he had.

The security men took the chance and gave their bank account numbers to Vincent. The doctor stood there, arms folded across his chest and a grin on his face as he waited for Vincent to disgrace himself.

The phones of the security men beeped and even the doctor couldn't understand the shocked looks on their faces.

The security men tore off their badges and went to take their positions at each side of Vincent.

The doctor was speechless, "this has to be a prank of some sort." he said.

"Trust me, it isn't. Now if you don't mind, I want the treatment of my mother to begin. I already transferred the needed amount to the hospital's account while making transfers to my new bodyguards and I have the receipt right here in my phone." Vincent said.

"That is impossible! I'm sure it is fake! Yes! That's it! You faked those transfers!" the doctor insisted but Vincent showed him the receipt through his bank app history.

"I'll be in the waiting room and I want to see my mother walk out with a smile on her face," Vincent said and walked out in front of the doctor.

After hours of waiting in the waiting room, Vincent checked the time on his phone. It was seven o'clock. He has been in the hospital throughout the day.

He began to worry, thinking that the doctor didn't do as he said but as soon as Vincent walked out of the waiting room with his bodyguards, he saw his mother coming to him with a smile on her face and crying tears of joy.

"Vincent!" she called his name.

Tears filled Vincent's eyes. It's been months since the last time his mother called his name or said anything properly.

"Mom!" he screamed and ran towards her, giving her a warm embrace as they both cried in each other's arms.

"Vincent. Vincent my son. I'm so happy I can finally leave this place." his mom said to him as they parted from the hug.

Vincent's mom cupped his face in her palm and stared into the innocent blue eyes of her son.

"You are going to be great one day. I know it," she said.

"Mom..." Vincent called, holding her hand, "I am a great person right now. You won't believe how much I have in my account right now. Our lives have changed for the better." Vincent said.

"How? Please explain to me." his mother said.

"It's Dad. He was the one who transferred money to me and enabled me to pay for your hospital bills. Dad is rich now. He is a billionaire and he says I'm his heir." Vincent explained.

The smile on his mother's face quickly faded like it was never there.

"How did you let that man crawl back into your life?" she asked Vincent, moving away from him.

"Mom listen to me..."

"No! Whatever amount he sent to you, just return it!" she ordered.

"Take me home right now. This moment is the last you will speak of that man," she said, looking at Vincent with disappointment in her eyes.

Vincent stayed quiet and just took his mother with him to return home.

As they approached the exit and stopped at the side, Vincent's mother looked back at the two men who she noticed had been following them.

"Vincent, who are these men?" she asked.

"They are bodyguards I hired recently," Vincent answered.

"Fire them." Vincent's mother looked at him sternly. "Vincent, don't tell me you have started throwing that man's money around as you wish," she said.

Vincent signalled for the men to leave and they did exactly that. He apologized to his mother and they both returned to their old house together.

The walls were all cracked and the building seemed as though it were about to collapse but still yet, the landlord demanded his full pay starting from the very first day of the next Month.

Early in the morning as Vincent woke up, he took his worn-out toothbrush and toothpaste in his hands and stepped out of the house, yawning and stretching.

He opened his eyes when he was done and unfortunately for him, his landlord stood in front of him with an angry face.

"Good mor..."

"Shut up!" the landlord interrupted Vincent's greeting with a shout.

"I heard your mother has been discharged from the hospital. Where is she?" the landlord asked Vincent.

"She is inside resting," Vincent answered.

"Resting? While she is still owing five months of rent? Ha! Go inside and get her! I must have my money in full or else you will both be kicked out!" the landlord threatened.

"Okay," Vincent replied and went back into the house.

Instead of calling his mom as the landlord ordered him to, he called his dad.

Vincent let his dad know about the reaction of his mother when he mentioned his dad to her at the hospital and the situation on the ground as well. He made plans with his father and ended the call after his father agreed to go along with it.

Vincent's goal was to bring his parents back on good terms and he hoped it would work.

Vincent went to his mother and woke her up to let her know that the landlord was looking for her.

After hearing that the landlord was right outside their door, her heart sank.

She got out of bed and went outside to meet the landlord.

"There you are. Where is my money?!" the landlord asked, a menacing frown on his face.

"Sir, I'm sorry but I have no money with me. I have been in the hospital and I was too ill to work. Please give me more time to arrange the money for you." Vincent's mother begged.

Vincent clenched his fists. He hated that his mother had to beg while he had more than the required amount sitting in his bank account. Unfortunately, he wasn't planning to pay. It would only hinder his plan from playing out the way he wanted.

"That's it! Your son could work enough to take himself through college and finish but he wasn't able to pay something as simple as house rent?! I pitied your situation. That was the only reason I let him live here but enough is enough. You are fine and I want you both to leave!" the landlord shouted.

"Sir please." Vincent's mother was about to kneel in front of the landlord but Vincent stopped her.

"You can't speak to my mother that way sir. I get we owe you but she is older than you. Can't you show some respect?" Vincent retorted.

The landlord scoffed, "Respect? Young man, I'll have you know I am going to sue the both of you for this. One way or the other, I will have my money even if I have to squeeze it out of your bones."

While Vincent and the landlord were exchanging unpleasant words with each other, a car horn interrupted them and grabbed all their attention.

Vincent, his mother, and the landlord all saw a Bugatti La Voiture Noire parked beside them.

The driver came down and walked around the car to open the door for its owner.

As soon as the door was opened, a foot came out and then the person came out fully from the car, dressed to impress with elegance. It was Vincent's father, Mr Devine.
