Dominic's Mistake

After Mr Devine stepped out of the car, he came to Vincent's mother who didn't recognize Devine at first.

"Veronica... It's been a while..." Mr Devine said, being a man who wasn't good with expressing himself to loved ones.

"Devine?" Vincent's mother said, looking shocked to see how well things turned out for Mr Devine after he abandoned them.

Her bewildered state turned to an angry one when she got back to her senses, "What are you doing here?" Veronica asked Mr Devine.

"I'm here to help. You're owing rent from five months ago, right? I'm here to pay it." Mr Devine said, causing Vincent to face-palm himself.

"How did you..." Veronica paused and then turned to her son.

"Vincent I warned you. I don't want to see this man." Veronica shouted.

"Mom you have to hear him out. Please. You can't keep this hate in your heart forever." Vincent pleaded.

"What is wrong with you people?! Have I turned invisible? If the man is going to pay for poor nobodies like you two then why not let him? it's not like any of you two can afford to pay it off." the landlord cut in.

Mr Devine stared down the landlord making the landlord feel uncomfortable and inferior.

"Don't ever speak to or about my family like that again." Mr Devin warned.

"Here is your trash money." Mr Devine added, throwing some money at the landlord's face.

"Just who do you think you are? Is that the way you are supposed to speak to people you owe?!" the landlord stupidly said.

"Instead of arguing, why don't you pick up the money before the wind takes it to people with better character and composure?" Mr Devine clapped back.

The landlord's eyes widened when he realized that other people around were also picking the money which was now spread on the floor.

"Get away! It's mine!" the landlord yelled.

During the chaos, Vincent made his mother and father go inside the house and he sat them down.

"I don't know how this will work out without butler Harlow but this is something only you have to do Dad," Vincent said.

"You're calling him father so soon?" Veronica questioned Vincent, annoyed.

"Mom, please. Just hear him out. If not for yourself then do it for me." Vincent replied to her.

Veronica sighed and looked away, arms folded across her chest.

Vincent left the house and went for a short walk to give his parents some privacy.

After walking for a while, Vincent decided to return home. As he turned around and began walking back, Vincent felt something break at the back of his head and slide down his hair.

He touched the back of his head and then looked at his fingers. Someone had thrown an egg at him.

Vincent looked back and was greeted with a water balloon straight to his face. Loud laughter played in Vincent's ears as he tried to wipe his face with his shirt.

"I told you you were going to pay for what you did." Vincent heard a familiar voice. It was Dominic.

Vincent opened his eyes and found himself surrounded by three hefty men cracking their knuckles and Dominic watching it play out.

"You know, I was going to hit you where it hurts. I mean, your mother of course was a great target to rip you apart emotionally but some fool paid for her treatment and got her away from my grasp. I guess you two will keep surviving off other people's charities. But for now, you are cornered." Dominic said, feeling like he was in control of everything as he was the boss.

"So you came back for another beating," Vincent stated as he removed what remained of the egg from his head.

Dominic stepped forward and directly broke another egg on Vincent's head with a nasty smile on his face.

"I won't be the one running this time you useless nobody," Dominic said. He wanted to remove his hand but Vincent grabbed Dominic's hand and kept it fix on his head with the broken egg.

Coming close like that was Dominic's worst mistake.

Dominic's heart skipped and he looked around frantically, "What are you three waiting for?! Beat him up!" Dominic ordered but his voice sounded more like a cry for help.

The three men came at Vincent all at once but as they threw punches at Vincent, Vincent used Dominic as a shield and those men ended up accidentally beating up Dominic instead.

"Stop! You fools! Are you blind? Hit him not me!" Dominic ordered, his body aches as Vincent threw him side to side to receive the blows of his men.

"Had enough?" Vincent asked Dominic.

"You don't know who I am. Don't mess with me." Vincent whispered to Dominic.

He let go of Dominic and Dominic's body dropped to the floor as if he were lifeless.

The three men were confused, "boss? Should we go after him?" one of them asked as Vincent walked off victoriously without putting in much effort.

"You three have muscles for brains! Why did you let me get beat up?!" Dominic shouted and then groaned in pain when he felt the aching in his jaw.

Different parts of his body had swollen up quickly.

"Put me back in my car," Dominic said in a weak voice.

"I swear I will get that good-for-nothing bastard back if it's the last thing I do!" Dominic said angrily as he sat in his car.

He quickly held on to his jaw and cried a bit when he felt the sharp pain again. "Drive!" he ordered his driver and they left that place, heading back to Dominic's home.

Meanwhile, Vincent returned home and heard laughter while standing at the door. He opened the door and found his parents getting along and laughing but the entire place was also a mess.

"What happened here?" Vincent asked confused by what he was seeing.

The state of the house said that they both had a fight but amid the damages, his parents were both laughing.

"It's a long story." Mr Devine said.

"One that we will not be telling," Veronica added, giving Devine a warning glare.

"Son, we are all returning home together as one family." Mr Devine announced.

"And of course, there will be a party to celebrate tonight itself." Veronica added.

Vincent smiled, seeing his parents happy again. Their joy meant everything to him.
