Reward Event

Chapter 10

     "Jay! Jay!"

"Mom what is it?" I answered her still sleepy.

"You sleepy head,you are late" she half yelled.

     "Late? late for what?"

"Late for your reward event of course" 

"Ohhh" I sat up immediately.

"Thanks Mom,I almost forgot" I went in direction of the bathroom.

"I will help with your clothes" I can tell how happy she is.

My clothe were already on the bed where Mom placed it.I'm to wear uniform today.

   

     I don't know what reward I will be given for solving the cases on a roll but I still got to go right?

    Mom boasted to all neighborhood aunts,she even told them about the reward I was getting today.Typical of her.

    I came into the kitchen and saw how she was grinning and humming some lyrics.

She was preparing my sandwich.

I looked up at the kitchen ceiling and frown

It looked old and just a slight force might blow it off.I noticed the same in my bedroom but Mom can't afford much.she had to take care of an adult like me.

Being a police officer doesn't pay much.The pay is $100 per month.

It not enough,I need to work more as to move from this house.

    "Here is your sandwich mister" she dropped it in front of me and placed a cup of coffee

"Go on eat,you are late already"

I nodded and started eating.

    "Jay there will be high ranked officers,even the famous Martins will be there. He solved a big case recently and he's getting a reward.I wish u can be like him.Gosh he's so good."Ariel rumble on and on.

    I don't know if she was talkative but from what I can point out she can't wait to meet whoever Martins is.

    Only I and she had the privilege to attend since she's the team leader and I'm the one who led the two investigations.

 "we are here" Ariel announced and took a deep breath.I can tell how nervous she is,she did a breathing technique and steppe out of the car.

    I was surprised when I found out she has a car this morning,but what was I expecting? She's our team leader.

    "Ariel you are here" a sharp voice said and I heard sound of heels coming towards us

   "Hi Alisha" Ariel waved and it looked forced.

    "Team leader Ariel heard you solved some cases recently? You are getting better huh? I will be watching you" I came face to face to the owner of the voice.

   She was in a pale blue dress and black heels,her hair let down,she wore makeup so much that I can't tell if I could recognize her without it.

    She was smirking while looking at Ariel and she gave off this oppressive feeling and her aura screams luxury.

I can tell she looked down on Ariel

    "And who did we have here?" She met my gaze and wink.

"Officer Jay, the major contributor in the cases" Ariel explained.

    "Ohhh,I wasn't expecting it to be such a young man,keep it up" she blew me a kiss and left smiling. she must have seen someone else to torture.

   "Who is she?" Curiosity got the best if me

    

   "She's the team leader in my former department,we had a big fight and were transferred to your department."she elaborated.

    "Why isn't she wearing her uniform though? Everyone is in it" I questioned 

"She got a backer so she does as she like" I sighed well I'm not here for that.

      "Officer Martins Hugde" The MC called and applause followed him as he stepped on stage.

     "That's him" Ariel yelp,she was grinning ear to ear.maybe she liked it or she looked up to him.

     "You did well in solving the headless case,it is quite tough but you always find it.I present to you a certificate of honor and a whopping sum of $1000 '' I gasp, that's a lot,now I can't wait for my turn.

     He was given his certificate by the commissioner of police. His expression did not change much.he just took the check and went back to his seat.

      They called a few officers and I was getting impatient and couldn't wait for my turn.

    "Jay Hope" it took a while to know he was calling me,my own surname is not Hope,I almost forgot I'm in someone's body.

"He's calling you" Ariel nudged me.

"Ohhh" I slowly moved towards the stage all eyes on me.

     "As a new officer I was surprised you are able to work on two cases together. You stunned the entire police,Ariel trained you well" I saw her grinning in the crowd.The commissioner himself was giving the speech.

    "I present to you a certificate of Honour and a whopping sum of $5000" I almost shouted out but I controlled my self.it was worth it, the sleepless night and days of hunger.

I collected my certificate and cheque and I walked back to my seat.

    "Well-done Jay,our team will get about bonus of $1000 each"

"Not only me is getting a reward?" I asked dumbstruck.

"Yes,we are also getting some thanks to you" Ariel patted my shoulder.

The event continued but I wasn't paying much attention.

     I was beyond excited,I was thinking of reallocating but had no money.Now we can relocate without problem.

Mom will be very happy,she will have another thing to brag about.

      "Gosh, I have never earned that much since I started working as an officer" Claire was on her desk and she was bewildered since she received the alert.The rest of the team was the same.

    "We need to work hard and earn more"

"Jay I will follow your orders from now on,you are….."

"Don't follow my orders,I'm not the team leader." I cut her off.

    "Yes,yes whatever you say" she looked at her phone one more time and laughed out loud.

I rolled my eyes,she was really behaving strange.

   The office line rang cutting off the discussions and anomous atmosphere.

     "Criminal code 2" Drake answered the line

"What? Ok" he hung up

"New case?" Claire asked and he nodded

"A big one at that"
