CHAPTER 4: THE PARKER VOUCHER

Stacey concluded that even if Henry wanted to keep a low profile with the kind of money he was claiming to have, he wouldn’t be dressed in those rags.

“Are you telling me your assets are worth 100 million dollars?” Stacey demanded in disbelief.

Henry shook his head. “100 million is too little. It should be around 10 billion at least.”

10 billion was what the other heirs got each.

Stacey was rendered speechless. Henry said nothing.

She sighed after a brief moment of silence and palmed her forehead. “There must be a limit to making this up don’t you think?”

Henry wanted to speak but Stacey didn’t let him for she had begun to rant.

“How many people will dare to say they have 1oo million dollars and then here you are, claiming to have about 10 billion?”

Henry sighed. There was no point arguing with Stacey. After all, she wasn’t the first person to look down on him. He simply raised his head and began to roll his eyes around the reception then his gaze was fixated on the door with the VIP caption slapped on it. Henry began to move in that direction.

Stacey’s jaw dropped to the floor. She quickly left her counter and ran after Henry.

“Where do you think you’re headed?” she yelled after him.

Henry said nothing. He fastened his steps toward the VIP room.

Stacey turned around and began to call out to security to stop him but it was too late. Henry had already pushed the handle inside. When Henry got inside the VIP room, the first person he saw was a middle-aged man sitting behind a desk.

The man was alerted by Henry barging into the VIP compartment. He began to study the young man when Stacey appeared in a fit of rush. She was already panting heavily.

The man turned to Stacey. “What is going on here?”

Stacey began to stutter. “I’m very sorry sir. I’m so sorry Mr. Falls.” She went on apologizing. She quickly walked up to Henry, grabbed him by the hand, and began to drag him toward the door. “I’ll take him out, now.”

Stacey didn’t succeed in pulling Henry away from the spot he was. His feet were tied to the floor and she was already groaning.  She sighed and abandoned the quest.

Henry cleared his throat loudly and then turned to the middle-aged man who was wearing a spectacle Henry felt was too large for his small face.

“Mr. Falls right? Is that how you treat VIP customers?”

Henry slowly pulled Stacey’s hand away from him and walked to the desk. He then pulled out the chair facing the desk and sat down comfortably.

After a few moments of astonishment between Stacey and Mr. Falls, the man broke into a dry laugh which Henry interpreted as a mocking laugh.

Mr. Falls then looked at Henry. “You want to withdraw some cash?”

“More than a 100 million dollars.” Stacey cried out after a giggle.

Henry said nothing. Instead, he plunged his hand into his pocket and pulled out something then he slapped it on the table.

“Prepare yourself,” Henry said.

Mr. Falls broke out laughing with his gaze averted from the desk but when he finally looked what was on his table, he flew out of his chair.

Suddenly, the security guards Stacey had earlier cried out to walk in. Without uttering a word, the security guards marched toward the desk in an attempt to grab Henry who was simply picking his nails.

“Mr. Falls, if you’re not free then I’ll be leaving,” Henry said and attempted to stand up before the guards could touch him.

“No!” Mr. Falls beckoned in a loud voice.

Mr. Falls suddenly became sweaty and began to loosen the grip his red tie had on him. “What I meant was that you don’t have to go through the stress of withdrawing at the counter that was why I asked if you need some cash.” He said.

Mr. Falls was suddenly being modest and everyone in the room apart from Henry was surprised.

“Mr. Parker, we will approve your transaction right now.” said a repented Mr. Falls. He then turned to the security guards and shooed them with his hands. “You guys have nothing to do here. Get out!”

The security guards stared at each other blankly while Stacey was dumbfounded.

“Do you want to lose your jobs?” Mr. Falls threatened.

They vanished.

Stacey who was standing by the door couldn’t help but wonder what was going on. Could it be that this wretched man was a secret billionaire? She kept pondering because Mr. Falls had just addressed him as Mr. Parker.

“Why are you still standing there? Go!” Mr. Falls dismissed Stacey. “And bring Mr. Parker some coffee.” He added.

Stacey’s eyes widened in horror. Who was this man and why was Mr. Falls treating her like a messenger in front of him?”

“Did you hear me, Stacey? I said get him a cup of coffee right now.” Mr. Falls reiterated.

“Yes, sir,” Stacey replied without asking what kind of coffee she was to bring. She stepped out, looking confused.

Mr. Falls turned to Henry with a nervous smile. “Sorry for all that happened. It was a misunderstanding.”

Henry nodded.

Mr. Falls lowered his head before Henry, a sign of apology and humility. “I would like to apologize on behalf of everyone for the way they treated you. I’m very sorry Mr. Parker.”

“It’s okay,” Henry muttered under his breath.

Mr. Falls positioned his hands on the table. He was already counting himself lucky that someone from the Parker family was in his office. It was an honor and if Henry decides to retaliate based on the way he was treated, Mr. Falls knew that he would lose his job.

He then picked up the voucher Henry had earlier dropped on the table. From the moment his eyes fell upon it, Mr. Falls knew that it was a voucher that belonged to the Parker family and each one had the value of about a million dollars.

The voucher was a small square-shaped card with three signatures appended at the back. One of the signatures belonged to the CEO of the city bank. The other signatures were that of the Asian manager of City Bank and the President of the bank.

“Let’s get to business,” Henry said.
