Chapter 4 : Fired

"I'm sorry, Mr. Lucas, I came here to discuss the sale of the property we agreed on earlier." Joe cut Lucas off, a cold sweat starting to break out on his body as he realized the words that had escaped Lucas' lips had he not replied quickly earlier.

"I forgot," Lucas replied. He noticed Joe's strange behavior. "How about we discuss this in my office? We need a more private place to discuss this." He offered Joe to go upstairs to his office precisely because, by now, they had become the spectacle of almost all Seattle Group employees.

"No need, Mr. Lucas. We can settle it here." Joe breathed a sigh of relief because he had diverted the topic so that Lucas would not tell anyone about his true identity.

An identity that Joe had been hiding from everyone, including his wife and in-laws. "Can you come to my company before 9 a.m. tomorrow to purchase the 100 properties I've offered? How?"

"Yes. You can wait for me tomorrow, and I will come." Lucas promised. He gave Joe a faint smile. He, who knew the true identity of this man in front of him, felt amazed because despite being poorly treated and insulted by his employees, Joe still did not say his true identity.

He doesn't know what Joe is looking for, but his behavior, which showed the struggle to sell the property to Lucas, looked very impressive in the eyes of the man.

"Boss! Why did you agree to buy the property from this loser?" Hudson interjected. He couldn't believe the decision his boss had made.

"It's none of your business, Hudson. Please return to work as usual, as should the rest!" Lucas commanded.

Although it was hard to leave the company lobby because he didn't want to lose to Joe, Hudson still chose to follow his boss's orders. He didn't want to take any chances.

"Yes, sir. But before you make a big decision like this, you better think once again this loser guy could be deceiving you. What he's offering is 100 properties, and the amount must be huge. What if he cheats and takes away your money? That could hurt our company, sir!" Hudson had the last word.

"I told you, this is none of your business, Hudson! I'm this company's CEO, and I think very carefully about every decision I make. There's no way I would bring this company to ruin. Do you doubt my credibility as the leader of this company, huh?!" Lucas groaned angrily, and he looked at Hudson with sharp eyes.

The other employees who saw such a scene became scared; some chose to leave because they didn't want to be seen further.

"That's not what I meant, sir!" Hudson was stunned. He didn't expect to face the wrath of his boss just for giving an opinion that he thought was essential to express. It was all for the sake of the company. If the company collapsed or had financial difficulties, his position in the company would also be in jeopardy.

"Then, what do you mean exactly? What do you want to say? I, who've been listening to what you've been saying, can only grasp that the gist of what you're saying is that you're doubting my ability as CEO. Don't cross your limits, Hudson. If you weren't my cousin, I would have fired you long ago!"

A fact was finally revealed. Some of the employees who heard this were whispering, and now they were talking about Hudson being able to work at Seattle Group by relying on family ties.

"Pft! So, you work here also relying on family relations, huh? Didn't you say that I have no pride just because I got a job with the help of my wife? Then, what about you? Do you still have self-esteem? Or are you just like me, who you said had no self-esteem?" Joe pointed at himself while throwing a cynical smile.

"Shut up! I have self-respect, unlike you!" Hudson's breathing was ragged, and he didn't like being compared to Joe, who he thought was just a coward and a loser.

"Why, we did the same thing. Why am I the only one with no pride?" Joe challenged Hudson.

"You!" Hudson moved forward; he wanted to hit Joe, but his steps were stopped as Lucas said, "Dare you to hit my guest. I make sure you will lose your job. I don't care what your mom or dad think. I will fire you right now if you dare to make a mess."

Hudson lowered his hand that was about to hit Joe. "Whatever!" He turned around and prepared to leave once again. He was so embarrassed that right now, some of the employees he had often insulted were looking at him with a satisfied look in their eyes for successfully seeing him humiliated in front of many people.

"Yes, just leave. Go as far away as possible. If you are still here, I will ask you to lick my shoes like you said. Incidentally, my shoes are dirty." Joe replied to Hudson's insult, feeling victorious that he could get back at the man.

Hudson, who had not gone too far, then turned around again. He didn't think about anything else this time and immediately punched Joe until the man fell to the floor.

"Hudson!" Lucas shouted angrily. His heart was beating fast now because he couldn't guess what would happen after his cousin hit a wealthy billionaire whose identity had been hidden.

"What?!" Hudson replied in an angry tone, just like Lucas did. He wasn't just angry at Joe but also at his cousin, who he thought was humiliating him. They were cousins, so Lucas should have helped him.

Joe wanted to say more, but the phone ringing made him stop. When he saw who was calling, he said a quick goodbye to Lucas.

"Sorry, Mr. Lucas. I have to leave soon to cook and clean the house. Let's finish tomorrow at the company I work for before 9 a.m." Joe said in a hurry. "And you, no need to lick my shoes because they are too clean to clean with your mouth full of garbage."

Joe left Seattle Group, leaving Lucas dazed by the words that had just fallen from his lips.

"Cooking? Cleaning the house? Can't a billionaire have servants in his house? How strange." Lucas mused.

As for Hudson, he glared at Joe's departure with a hateful look. While preoccupied with his thoughts, someone tapped him on the shoulder.

"I'm firing you. Please take your last paycheck in the finance department." Lucas said.

"Wh-what?!" Hudson was shocked. "Fired? But how come? I didn't do anything wrong!"

"Did nothing wrong, you say? You've degraded and even insulted my special guest. You hit him and ordered the security guards to throw him out. Do you think that was worth doing?" Lucas asked sarcastically.

"But I'm your cousin!" Hudson insisted.

"So what if you're my cousin? I accepted you to work here out of pity for your mother, who kept begging me because her son could only play games and spend money. I granted her wish, but what did I get in return? Shame! You've caused me a lot of embarrassment!"

Hudson wanted to interrupt again, but Lucas immediately gave the code to security to kick Hudson out of the company. "Looks like you can't be reasoned with, Hudson. I'll send your final paycheck directly to your account. You don't need to come to the finance department. Quick, get him out of here!"

After saying that, Lucas quickly left. He had more important things to do than deal with Hudson's swearing and insults.

The other employees, meanwhile, seemed mesmerized by the performance they had just seen. Instantly, rumors about Joe spread like wildfire. Someone who was labeled as a coward could sell 100 properties to a big boss like Lucas.

"What a great guy he is."

"Who is he?"

Many more rumors circulated, but none of them could reveal the reason for Lucas' purchase of such many properties.
