He quickly stood up and dashed to his room. When he was running, his vision went so blurry that he almost collided with a wall. As he reached his room, he rummaged through his belongings. He took a small rucksack and climbed on a ladder, which got him into the attic.
This was what his mom had always told him to do whenever he heard a strange sound.
Bang!
The creature had already barged in, but that was still too late. Nathan had already left the house through the attic.
The world Nathan had transmigrated into was in the post-apocalypse. Due to climate change, genes in living things began to evolve. Humans had mutated into powerful and extraordinary beings, while animals had mutated into dangerous creatures.
Apart from that, the world was invaded by extraterrestrial creatures known as gouses. The gouses resembled humans, but their skin was comprised of dark purple mineral ores, which made their bodies extremely rough.
They had fat and short horns instead of ears, and their eyes were purple. They grew so quickly that a one-year-old gous approximated an adult human. As a result, they swiftly spread and outnumbered humans.
These creatures arrived on Earth after humans sent a spaceship to Mars in an attempt to colonize the planet.
The gouses were sophisticated enough to take over the spaceship. They guided it to the earth; their goal, like humans', was to colonize the earth. Mars, humanity's last hope, was almost inhabitable by this point.
Humans and monsters in this world could accumulate a large amount of powerful energy, which would determine their strength. This energy was a character arising or resulting from an instance of mutation, which was generally an alteration of the DNA sequence of the genome or chromosome of an organism.
As they tap into their gene energy, they reach new levels of strength.
People and monsters, including gouses, were categorized according to their various ranks of strength. The ranks were ordinary, extraordinary, surreal, and ethereal, arranged from lowest to highest. Each rank consisted of nine levels, numbered 1 through 9. The stronger the person or monster, the higher the level and rank.
Humans could obtain energy by harnessing specialized training and techniques. On the other hand, monsters acquire energy by absorbing natural elements and consuming other organisms.
People built fortified cities to protect themselves from gouses and other monsters that roamed the land. Fortified cities were situated in higher areas, and their walls were built with extremely hard ores, making them safe. These cities also had a well-organized defense system in place, consisting of skilled warriors and advanced weaponry. The fortified walls acted as a barrier, preventing any potential threats from entering and ensuring the safety of the inhabitants within.
There were only four fortified cities, with a combined population of about 100 million people. Almost every human being migrated to these fortified cities.
Wandering in the street alone, Nathan wasn’t surprised to see no trace of humans, especially living ones. He had learned through his mind that the city where old Nathan was staying with his mother had been attacked by gouses and then inhabited by beasts. The gouses, known for their ferocity and destructive nature, had left the city in a terrible-state with no running water and electricity. The beasts now roamed the streets preying for survivors.
Many people in the city were evacuated by troops from Eastward City. He was abandoned after the troops learned that he was disabled. He had a visual impairment.
The troops were prohibited from evacuating sick, injured, and disabled people; they wanted people who would benefit their community in some way, particularly in defense and science fields. His mother chose to stay with him despite the risks, as she couldn't bear to leave her son behind. Together, they faced the daunting task of finding a way to survive amidst the chaos and danger that surrounded them.
They both ended up getting killed. Nathan's heart was filled with both rage and grief whenever he thought of this. He was unable to regard the old Nathan's mother as not his; it felt like it was his mother that he left in the previous world. He wouldn't be able to see her again; it was like she was dead too.
"Transmigrating into a blind guy? What bad luck!" Nathan was disappointed by the reality, even though he had realized that he was not really blind. His eyesight was bad. In his eyes, fast-moving figures blurred.
That was the reason why the old Nathan hadn’t made any developments in his strength. He was 19 but was below an ordinary levil 1 person.
He couldn't properly train and was unable to involve in any fights because to him the opponent’s attacks would be blurry in his vision and he would probably end up getting injured. Thus, he was unable to obtain energy and level up. he could only watch his peers excel and become stronger. It was a frustrating situation for Nathan, as he yearned to prove himself and reach his full potential.
He trudged into an abandoned restaurant hoping to find something to eat. He had been sneaking throughout the city stealthily for 2 days and nights and hadn’t eaten anything.
The broken signboard carrying the name of the restaurant was hung upside down. The glass doors at the entrance were shattered, leaving pieces all over the floor.
As he stepped inside, the stale smell of decay filled his nostrils, reminding him of the desolation that had taken over the city. The sight of dead, decaying bodies, overturned tables, and broken glass only added to his sense of despair.
He scouted for a kitchen and found so many dead bodies in the hallway that he had to walk on them. He had already gotten used to seeing the decaying dead bodies, but it still gave him a little bit of nausea.
He finally reached the kitchen, hoping to find some food or supplies that were still salvageable. However, the scene in the kitchen was just as grim as the rest of the building. The once bustling space was now filled with rotting food, shattered plates, and swarms of flies. The nauseating stench grew even stronger, intensifying his despair and reminding him of the dire situation they were in.
He strayed in the kitchen for a moment, his eyes scanning the chaos before him. It was clear that any hope of finding edible food or usable supplies was futile. He abruptly stopped in his tracks when he spotted a wolf-like creature.
It had long and thin limbs, red eyes, and long and black teeth. Its mangy fur was matted and covered in dirt, giving it a feral and menacing appearance.‘a dog-hooven’ He recognized the beasts. The beast was devouring some food, making a messy in the kitchen as food pieces rolled all over the floor. Luckily, the beast had its back facing him and didn’t see him.He cautiously took some steps back. He planned that as soon as he managed to reach the doorway without the creature noticing him, he would run as fast as he could. After all, he was very weak and had an eye defect; it wasn’t a good idea to disturb the beast. He took only three steps backward before the beast sniffed an unfamiliar scent. It patiently turned its head and glared directly at him, its eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and aggression. Its hideous face frightened him. The man froze in fear, realizing that his plan had been foiled. He knew he had to think quickly if he wanted to escape the beast's clutches. It snar
"Are there any quests I should complete right now?" He couldn’t wait to level up and unlock new abilities. He knew that by completing quests, he would gain experience and resources that would aid him on his journey to becoming the strongest. With each quest, he grew closer to his goal and became more excited about the challenges that lay ahead.EXP he had was too little. He only got 100 EXP and needed 2000 EXP to level up to Ordinary Level 1. He had a long way to go and needed to find more quests to complete in order to gain the necessary experience. He was determined to put in the effort and dedication required to reach his goal, knowing that each quest he completed would bring him one step closer to becoming the strongest. [Currently, no quests are available.]That firm reply from the system made him feel a twinge of disappointment, but he refused to let it deter him. He still had much time; the system had just been installed a few moments ago, and he was determined to make the mos
At that moment, he heard a horrifying howl. He immediately stopped in his tracks and narrowed his eyes, only to see a big wolf-like creature a few steps in front of him. The beast was devouring the dog-hooven beast, and it was five times bigger than the dog-hooven beast. If he were a normal person with normal vision, he would have already noticed it the moment he got out of the restaurant. The beast howled as it glared at him. Its piercing eyes seemed to hold a mix of hunger and aggression, making it clear that the creature saw him as its next meal. The man's heart raced as he weighed his options, realizing that his survival now depended on either outsmarting or overpowering this formidable adversary.Ding![Scrutinizing the target...Please wait.][Target scrutinized!Target Details:Name: Giant WolfRace: BeastAge: N/AStrength: 50kg+Strength Level: Ordinary Level 5Defense Shield: 10kg\10kg+Health Points: 250/250]He widened his eyes as he stared at the screen in his mind. "Thank you for your concern," Nathan said, offering a reassuring smile. "I'm just lost in thought for a moment. I appreciate your suggestion, but I assure you, I'm perfectly fine.""How sure are you that you're fine?" the woman asked, her eyebrows furrowing with concern. "It's always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to our health."Nathan couldn't help but notice how caring she was, especially considering that they were completely strangers. He took a moment to gather his thoughts before responding, "I understand your concern, and I truly appreciate it. However, I've been dealing with th
"Do you have any queries?"Captain Aginy suddenly asked while shooting a glance at him. Her face was devoid of expression."I don't have any questions so far."Nathan replied with a shrug while scanning the room with his eyes. The room was sparsely furnished, with only a mattress, a small desk, and a single chair. Nathan's gaze lingered on the plain walls, lacking any personal touches or decorations."Don't worry, once you become a student warrior, you'll have a better place." Samantha uttered it upon seeing Nathan's dissatisfaction with the place. "The military academy's entrance competition will occur in five days. You've got to train hard."In this world, your strength determines your fate. The weak were considered useless and were often overlooked or taken advantage of. The strong received the best services, while the weak received the worst or none at all.Nathan had already gotten to know what kind of world this was, and regardless of his disability, he had decided to do as much
"Because you’re behind your friends. I’ll give you a free access to training space" According to what he learnt from old Nathan memories, one had to pay a decent amount to use a training space. Free training were available to military and gifted students only.He wasn’t one, and he had to pay a decent sum to access a training space. Giving him free access to a training space was a huge favor."You’re too kind, Captain." Nathan felt that the young woman was being too generous to him. He couldn't help but feel grateful for her kindness, as it was rare for someone to offer free access to a training space, especially to someone like him who wasn't part of the military or a gifted student. Nathan wondered what had prompted her to be so generous toward him. "There’s no problem. May I know which level you are?" Training spaces were virtual worlds where one would confront illusory monsters, mostly gouses of preferred levels. This was critical because people were able to put their fears to th
Ding! [Opponents detected!] Ding! [Quest Received! Quests Details Quest: Conquer the opponents! Reward: 30 EP and 600 EXP Time limit: Limitless! Penalty For Failure: Getting Killed by the Opponents!] His heart raced as the notifications appeared on his screen. The realization that failure meant death only heightened his fear, making the situation feel even more intense and dangerous. His first quest wasn't as interesting as he thought it would be, but rather terrifying and life-threatening. The thought of facing opponents who were just as skilled and determined as him sent shivers down his spine. He knew that in order to survive, he would have to give it his all and strategize every move carefully. Instinctively, he reached for his weapon, ready to defend himself against the onslaught of attackers. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! A shot for each of the monsters changed the situation. The monsters were down, and the immediate threat was eliminated. There were all ordinary
He killed two more ordinary level 2 gouses and earned an additional 22 EP and 440 EXP. The fight was tough given that he had to rely on ordinary level 1 strength to defeat two ordinary level 2 gouses. He got injured, and his HP dropped. After the fight, his total EXP was 4390, and he leveled up to ordinary level 2. He then required 1810 EXP to level up to the next level, which was ordinary level 2. He had a total of 219.5 EP, still not enough to purchase the desired 10-minute 10x BSD, which was the highest. He found a thick bush nearby and decided to take a moment to rest and recover. The night found him there under the cover of darkness, providing a sense of safety and allowing him to heal without interruption. However, he occasionally heard sounds of monsters lurking. The next morning, he woke up feeling refreshed and ready to continue his journey. He knew he had to be cautious as he ventured further, aware that stronger enemies could be waiting for him. Despite the risks, he was
