Chap 4 The New World.

He quickly stood up and dashed to his room. When he was running, his vision went so blurry that he almost collided with a wall. As he reached his room, he rummaged through his belongings. He took a small rucksack and climbed on a ladder, which got him into the attic.

This was what his mom had always told him to do whenever he heard a strange sound.

Bang!

The creature had already barged in, but that was still too late. Nathan had already left the house through the attic.

The world Nathan had transmigrated into was in the post-apocalypse. Due to climate change, genes in living things began to evolve. Humans had mutated into powerful and extraordinary beings, while animals had mutated into dangerous creatures.

Apart from that, the world was invaded by extraterrestrial creatures known as gouses. The gouses resembled humans, but their skin was comprised of dark purple mineral ores, which made their bodies extremely rough.

They had fat and short horns instead of ears, and their eyes were purple. They grew so quickly that a one-year-old gous approximated an adult human. As a result, they swiftly spread and outnumbered humans.

These creatures arrived on Earth after humans sent a spaceship to Mars in an attempt to colonize the planet.

The gouses were sophisticated enough to take over the spaceship. They guided it to the earth; their goal, like humans', was to colonize the earth. Mars, humanity's last hope, was almost inhabitable by this point.

Humans and monsters in this world could accumulate a large amount of powerful energy, which would determine their strength. This energy was a character arising or resulting from an instance of mutation, which was generally an alteration of the DNA sequence of the genome or chromosome of an organism.

As they tap into their gene energy, they reach new levels of strength.

People and monsters, including gouses, were categorized according to their various ranks of strength. The ranks were ordinary, extraordinary, surreal, and ethereal, arranged from lowest to highest. Each rank consisted of nine levels, numbered 1 through 9. The stronger the person or monster, the higher the level and rank.

Humans could obtain energy by harnessing specialized training and techniques. On the other hand, monsters acquire energy by absorbing natural elements and consuming other organisms.

People built fortified cities to protect themselves from gouses and other monsters that roamed the land. Fortified cities were situated in higher areas, and their walls were built with extremely hard ores, making them safe. These cities also had a well-organized defense system in place, consisting of skilled warriors and advanced weaponry. The fortified walls acted as a barrier, preventing any potential threats from entering and ensuring the safety of the inhabitants within.

There were only four fortified cities, with a combined population of about 100 million people. Almost every human being migrated to these fortified cities.

Wandering in the street alone, Nathan wasn’t surprised to see no trace of humans, especially living ones. He had learned through his mind that the city where old Nathan was staying with his mother had been attacked by gouses and then inhabited by beasts. The gouses, known for their ferocity and destructive nature, had left the city in a terrible-state with no running water and electricity. The beasts now roamed the streets preying for survivors.

Many people in the city were evacuated by troops from Eastward City. He was abandoned after the troops learned that he was disabled. He had a visual impairment.

The troops were prohibited from evacuating sick, injured, and disabled people; they wanted people who would benefit their community in some way, particularly in defense and science fields. His mother chose to stay with him despite the risks, as she couldn't bear to leave her son behind. Together, they faced the daunting task of finding a way to survive amidst the chaos and danger that surrounded them.

They both ended up getting killed. Nathan's heart was filled with both rage and grief whenever he thought of this. He was unable to regard the old Nathan's mother as not his; it felt like it was his mother that he left in the previous world. He wouldn't be able to see her again; it was like she was dead too.

"Transmigrating into a blind guy? What bad luck!" Nathan was disappointed by the reality, even though he had realized that he was not really blind. His eyesight was bad. In his eyes, fast-moving figures blurred.

That was the reason why the old Nathan hadn’t made any developments in his strength. He was 19 but was below an ordinary levil 1 person.

He couldn't properly train and was unable to involve in any fights because to him the opponent’s attacks would be blurry in his vision and he would probably end up getting injured. Thus, he was unable to obtain energy and level up. he could only watch his peers excel and become stronger. It was a frustrating situation for Nathan, as he yearned to prove himself and reach his full potential.

He trudged into an abandoned restaurant hoping to find something to eat. He had been sneaking throughout the city stealthily for 2 days and nights and hadn’t eaten anything.

The broken signboard carrying the name of the restaurant was hung upside down. The glass doors at the entrance were shattered, leaving pieces all over the floor.

As he stepped inside, the stale smell of decay filled his nostrils, reminding him of the desolation that had taken over the city. The sight of dead, decaying bodies, overturned tables, and broken glass only added to his sense of despair.

He scouted for a kitchen and found so many dead bodies in the hallway that he had to walk on them. He had already gotten used to seeing the decaying dead bodies, but it still gave him a little bit of nausea.

He finally reached the kitchen, hoping to find some food or supplies that were still salvageable. However, the scene in the kitchen was just as grim as the rest of the building. The once bustling space was now filled with rotting food, shattered plates, and swarms of flies. The nauseating stench grew even stronger, intensifying his despair and reminding him of the dire situation they were in.

He strayed in the kitchen for a moment, his eyes scanning the chaos before him. It was clear that any hope of finding edible food or usable supplies was futile. He abruptly stopped in his tracks when he spotted a wolf-like creature.
