Damian stood there, staring at her. Her command sounded loud in the lobby. More people turned, watching the drama unfold.
The security man still looked unsure. He didn't want to throw his boss’ husband out and then face punishment. So, he stood there.
Regina noticed what was happening. If the security man was having doubts, it meant that a lot of people were having doubts as well. She couldn't have that. They had to know that Damian was a bad person for their family.
“You disgusting creep!” she yelled, pointing a finger at Damian. “You tried to harass me and then attempted to assault me!”
The crowd gasped while some murmured. Nobody was feeling bad for Damian. Instead, they stared at him judgementally. More people stopped what they were doing and watched. They had everyone's attention now.
However, Damian didn't panic. He kept a straight look on his face. He had been through worse. Even though he was irritated by her, he knew exactly what she was doing.
He didn't want to play along.
She was twisting the situation to fit her. She wanted to look like the victim. But, the truth was, whatever he says wouldn't matter to her.
She just wanted control.
"You really think people will believe what you're saying?" Damian asked quietly.
Regina lowered her voice. “You think that? Look at him! You’re already guilty in their eyes.”
The security guard who was nearby. He held the radios on his belts. He was checking to see if he needed to call backup.
Damian glanced at him. This was all predictable of Regina. He had dealt with her on countless occasions before. She was always trying hard to put him in a tight spot. But now, she was pushing.
This wasn’t just about money, this was about humiliation. More guards came forward surrounding Damian.
“Sir, we need you to come with us,” the guard finally said, taking a step forward.
Damian didn’t move. He just turned his head looking back at each of the guards. He could see the game Regina was playing. She enjoyed being manipulative but this was cheap.
But then, he felt it. A hand touched his jacket pocket. He looked just in time to see Regina slipping her hand into his pocket.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he growled. He narrowed his eyes at her. He was so close to bursting.
Regina ignored him. She removed her hand from his pocket, holding the small necklace—his necklace. It was the one thing of value he had left that was passed down from generations to generations. And now, she was with it.
Her smug smile grew wider. She shook the necklace in front of him. “Look what we have here,” she said. “Isn’t this my sister’s necklace? I wonder how you got your hands on this. Did you steal it?”
Damian felt his body go stiff. His eyes darkened as anger rushed though him. But he had to keep his cool. People were watching. “That’s mine,” Damian said. His voice sounded dangerous.
Regina tilted her head, faking innocence. “Yours? Are you sure? Because it looks an awful lot like the one Bianca had. Mayne you stole it or you know, she probably forgot to take it when she left you.”
He didn’t bother to respond. He could feel the eyes of the security guards and the crowd, all waiting for his next move. He knew Regina was trying to get under his skin but she had crossed a line.
“I’m not going to ask again, Regina. Hand it over.” Damian repeated with warning.
Regina laughed. She held the necklace closer to her chest. “What are you going to do, Damian? Fight me in front of all these people? Or attack poor little me after everything you’ve already done?” She asked, pouting. “Are you going to beat a woman?”
He was barely listening to her. His mind was on the necklace. It was the one thing he had left of his family, before his whole life went up in flames. He was just pissed that she was with it.
“Pathetic,” she scorfed. “Just like I always knew you were. You couldn’t even keep my sister happy. Now you’re stealing from her?”
Damian smiled. It was colder than ice. He was utterly done with her jokes. “This is your last chance. Give me the necklace now.”
“Or what? You’re going to throw a tantrum? You truly were never man enough to stand up to me of Bianca.”
Regina wasn’t done. She took a step closer, lowering her voice so only he could hear. “You’re a nobody, Damian. You always were. You're a puppet for my family, the Callaways, to have fun with. Did you really think you could really be married to someone like Bianca?” She paused and then doubled over, laughing.
“I knew it was only a matter of time before she dropped you for someone better. And now? Now you’re nothing. You have money, no power and certainly, no future.”
Damian remained silence. He had heard enough. His whole focus was on the necklace.
“Do you think I'm going to let you walk away with the necklace?” he asked.
She smirked. “I already have.”
When she least expected it, Damian moved. A security guard tried to stop him but he pushed him aside. He moved like someone that had done it a million times. The guard stumbled backwards shocked. He hadn't expected that.
Regina’s smile fell.. She hadn’t expected Damian to react. Especially when he pushed the guards like that. “Damian, don’t you dare—”
She couldn't finish.
Damian reached her and grabbed her wrist, raising it up. She struggled to free herself but Damian held onto her tightly.
“Give. It. Back,” he said through gritted teeth.
Regina tried to pull her hand away, but Damian wasn’t moving. “Let go of me! You’re insane!”
“Maybe but stupid is one thing I'm not.”
Regina grew angry. “You fcking bastard,” she cursed, forgetting her manners. “If it's the necklace, you want—” she quickly grabbed it from her other hand and threw it to the floor. She threw it with so much force that the pendant broke from the chain. “—you can have it.”
She smiled, thinking she had won.
Damian didn't think. Swiftly, he lifted his hand and hit her hard across the face. The crowd's gasp and yells were loud as well. The slap was so strong that Regina gasped, stumbling backwards. Her hand immediately held her cheek. She stared at him with wide eyes.
“Did you just slap me?”
Regina was shocked. She hadn't seen this coming at all. Her cheek was on fire from Damian’s slap. She staggered backwards holding her face. “You hit me!” she yelled.Damian ignored her. She wasn't worth his attention. Instead, be crouched down, picking up both pieces of the necklace. They laid in his palm. He seriously hoped that it was repairable.People were still staring and none of them had the mind to step in. This was a Calloway matter and they didn't dare interefere. Even the security guards that were supposed to through him out were confused on what to do next. Passerbys were beginning to film and record what was happening. The situation was becoming worse.“How dare you! You’re nothing, nothing!” She yelled, pointing her finger at him, “All you are is a worthless man who got kicked out of the Calloway family. How could you think of laying your hands on me? You’ll pay for this!”She kept going off, letting her anger get the best of her. “I'll make you rue this day, you bastard
Eleanor smiled when she saw that Regina Calloway stood frozen in place. “Who exactly are you?” Regina whispered. People were filming and watching. Nobody dared to interefere between these women, not even the security guards.“It's none of your business. I'm here for Damian.” Eleanor shifted her attention to him. “I have something urgent to discuss with you. Could you come with me?”Damian glanced at Regina before he nodded. “Alright. Shall we?” He asked.Regina led the way. Her bodyguards parted the crowd like the red sea. No one stopped her or Damian from leaving. Once they reached the parking lot, Eleanor stopped walking and turned to Damian. He stood awkwardly, holding the broken necklace in his hand.“You should be more careful,” Eleanor said, “People like her thrive on making others feel powerless. You shouldn't let her do that to you.”Damian blinked. “I know. I've been married into that family for one year. This is just one of Regina's games. But, why did you help me? You don’
Bianca and Regina Calloway still stood in the lobby of her office building. The crowd had disappeared, everyone minding their business and going on with their jobs. Bianca's mind was still running through everything she had heard.Regina noticed that Bianca wasn't ready to say anything so, she spoke up first. "What are you thinking about?” She asked.Bianca blinked at her. She only just realized that her sister had been talking to her but her mind was someplace else. Bianca stared at the red mark on her sister's cheek. Damian's hand had left a print.“I told you I’ll deal with Damian later,” Bianca muttered. “I have to meet the CEO of Everest Corporations now. I can’t let this whole thing distract me.”She checked the time. The CEO had said it was urgent but he was already running late for her meeting. It wasn’t helping that her thoughts were so confusing too. What had really happened between Damian and Regina? And who was that woman Regina talked about?Has Damian really moved on?Ma
The accusation felt like a slap to Damian's face. He loved Bianca. She was accusing him of being infidel. “I have been nothing but faithful in this marriage. Today is the first time I've ever seen or met Eleanor,” Damian explained himself.“I don't believe you,’’ Bianca snapped and she immediately hung up on him.Damian stared at the phone for a few moments wondering what had just happened. Bianca had never reacted this way before. Not to him.“Is everything alright?” Eleanor asked.Damian put his phone in the breast pocket of his jacket and nodded, “Yeah, everything's fine.” He replied, looking out the window.”Bianca began to pace. She and Regina dismissed the guards and returned back to her office. She was still so angry but then, she realized that she hadn't asked him what she wanted to ask him.Her mind had been occupied by the fact that he left with the CEO and in anger, she had forgotten to ask about what happened between him and her sister. Again, she dialled his number. This
A while after Damian ended the call, their black SUV pulled over in front of one of the biggest hospitals in the city. Damian furrowed his brows as he looked outside the window. He glanced at Eleanor as they began to drive into the underground parking lot. She sat beside him and her hands were folded into fists on her lap.“Where are we going?” Damian finally asked.Eleanor lifted her eyes to look at him. “This might come as a shock but I've been trying to meet you for over a month. It's been harder than I thought because you're a behind the scene kind of person. I had to reach out to your wife to try and meet you.”“Why are we here?” Damian repeated a little harsher. The driver pulled over and Eleanor signalled for him to get out of the car. He bowed and stepped out, giving them privacy."Jasper Mueller told me about you," she said quietly. The name rang a bell in Damian's head. He remembered helping the billionaire out. He was the richest man in the South.“He praised your extraordi
The lady stood her ground, blocking them. She glared at Damian and then Eleanor, shifting between the both of them. Damian guessed that the girl was Eleanor's sister. But, he couldn't tell if she was the younger or the older one. They looked a lot alike and if there was any age difference between them, Damian was sure that it wasn't up to four years. It wasn't until Charlotte grabbed Eleanor's hand and began to beg that Damian guessed she was the younger sister.“Eleanor, you have to do something!” Charlotte insisted. “The doctors are saying that he might not make it till morning. There's still time. We can fly in the best doctor from any country. Please, Eleanor. We can't let Grandfather die.”“It's true, ma'am. We don't think he's going to make it through the night. His body is fighting treatment and it won't be long before it fails him completely.” One of the doctors agreed, stepping forward to tell her.Eleanor pulled her lips into a straight line before she placed her hand on her
Eleanor breathed in relief and walked forward. She stood between her sister and Damien. A few minutes ago, she had held her breath, having a little doubt about Damien diagnosing Charlotte right. Jason had only recommended him, but she never saw him treat anyone. Surely, she was doubtful and worried. Her relief knew no bounds when he was able to diagnose Charlotte just by looking at her. Jason was right, he was the perfect person for the job, and that made her feel guilty for doubting him. "You see, Charlotte, he might be our only hope. We should give him a chance," she said, trying to convince her sister who still had her eyes widened. A doctor can't get the right prescription by looking at a person. She felt a foul play, and thinking about it, she frowned and looked at her sister. "Sis, you can't fool me. You told this guy about my situation so he could come reveal it to us and act like a miracle worker. Is that how much grandfather means to you? Are you ready to put his life in j
Damien rushed into the chemistry lab, which was on the top floor of the hospital. He needed all the time and help he could get, but no one was willing to help him. Thanks to Eleanor who helped to convince them, although they weren't convinced but they just had to accept her command, he was able to get away. But, if he didn't return, they made it clear that they would administer the old medicine and would call the cops on him. Going to jail wasn't something he wanted at that moment, especially when he just had a difficult moment in his life. He got in and brought out all the chemicals he needed. He dropped the medicines he had taken from the pharmacy on the work table and began to sort them out. Years ago, he had prepared medicine for the same strange sickness, mistakenly, and it worked. A young girl from his hometown was diagnosed with the same ailment and when everyone thought she would die and had given up hope, he stepped in. She got better which was a miracle, but died with he
