Chapter 05

"Divorce papers. Can't you read again or has poverty created another miracle by blinding your eyes?" Celena asked with a snort, giving her husband a look of disdain.

"What for?" He asked, dropping the papers on the table.

"To wrap tacos." Ayden replied sarcastically with a laugh.

Damon shot him a deadly glare, "if you make another sound from that wretched mouth of yours ever again, I'll use this knife and slice you wide open like thanksgiving turkey."

With his venomous warning, everything went static, like a still-shot in a magazine. Ayden tried to protest but his mother held him back. Damon is extremely angry right now and if anyone provokes him more, he'll do as he'd threatened.

Ms. Carney knew that behind that calm and composed man is a savage beast that destroys without mercy when pushed to the limits, she'd seen that beast once but never again. She just wants Damon to grant the divorce without any drama and she won't risk anything that would turn the angry looking Damon into a Demon.

"Just sign the documents and we'll go to court tomorrow to finalize the divorce. It would be a quick procedure." Celena said, giving him a pen.

"Why do you want to divorce me? I've not done anything to you and I don't deserve this." He asked calmly, going towards his wife who didn't bother to move an inch.

"You've done everything Damon, you've done everything wrong. When I married you, I had high hopes for our marriage but everything came crumbling down when you couldn't use your so-called great certificate to secure a single job. The only job you've ever managed to badge is a clerk or is it an assistant clerk in a company that's at the verge of bankruptcy. I can't deal with this anymore Damon, I can't put up with your constant failure and I'm tired of this whole thing called marriage, divorce is the only option left for us, so please grant this request without making a fuss about it." Celena complained bitterly, staring up at her husband right in the eyes.

Damon could not believe whatever he's hearing, Celena can't do this to him and he's finding it hard to believe that his wife really wants to divorce him.

"You can't do this C. I've tolerated all your family shits and taunts because of you, I never took their punishment to heart. I sleep in the cold just to stay with you, to make sure I'm close to you. I love you Celena, I really love you." He confessed trying to hold her but she moved away from him, her face showing nothing but disgust.

"Love? Oh God Damon! Man up and grow up please. You're irritating me by whatever shits you're saying about love. The love I had for you back then was nothing but my hallucination, it's what I'll tag as material love." She took a pause and began to walk around him.

"I loved you because you had a bright future honey, you were the most intelligent person in our set, many girls swooned over you mainly because of two things, your good looks and high IQ. You were the best one around and you should have known me by now, I always go for what's best. My plan was to date you till we graduated but then you swept me off my feet with your amazing certificate. It was the best the school has ever had and my thought was that a great business company would struggle to get you so I decided to marry you despite my family's protest against it. I do not wish to lose a chance to be with a faithful wealthy partner but..." She took a deep breath and halted right in front of him.

"You are nothing but a failure, your certificate didn't matter to anyone because no one wanted you. You're probably cursed because that's the only thing that could be wrong with you. If you're not fucking cursed, how can you explain not badging a great job with that stupid certificate. You know what, the student that came close to having a certificate like yours is one of the richest men in the country right now? Then tell me why's your case different? Why!?" She shouted at the expressionless looking man.

"Just sign the divorce paper and end my suffering please. Free me of this poverty stricken marriage because my family is not giving me what I deserve because I'm married to you. I kept you in this house because my mom is afraid of what the media would say if they find their daughter's husband living a wretched life outside, you know how fast the tabloids takes gossips I beg of you to sign this and let me go...I'm tired of going against my family for a street rat like you!" She ended everything as tears dropped from her eyes.

Damon stared at his panthing wife, a painful smile appeared on his lips. He reached out towards her face and used his thumb to wipe the tears to the surprise of the woman who'd thought that her confession would make him so angry that he'd end up signing the papers.

"Don't cry Celena, I'll make money. That's a promise I'm making to you, I know you're saying all these due to anger but don't worry, I'll make enough money for the two of us." With this statement, he grabbed the papers from the table, took his wife's hand and dropped it.

With pain churning inside him, his heart contracting against his ribcage to an extent that he finds it difficult to breathe, he began to walk away deciding to go along with the decision he'd never thought he'd give a second thought to.

"Wait. I'll give you a job."

Damon came to a halt when he heard his brother in law's voice.

If that asshole is trying to pull a prank on him, this isn't the right time to do it but he was desperate to get a job so he turned around to stare at him.

"But on one condition." He added and a bitter chuckle escaped Damon's mouth.

What's with these jerks and conditions anyway?
