87. Defeated

As the closest person to Devon when he underwent that transformation, it wasn’t an exaggeration to think that Gesta was a goner. Even he himself thought so. That was why when he realized he was still alive, he was astonished.

“Young Master, I hope you’re not missing anything,”

Gesta looked up to see Verix who still remained alert to the threat in front of them. It turned out that it was Verix who promptly came to his rescue, at the cost of his back.

“And I hope this won’t get into your head! Remember that this is merely part of your job, so don’t expect anything in return!” scoffed Gesta without any shred of empathy.

“I am well aware of that,” responded Verix sternly before he dragged his young master again to avoid the charging of Devon. But apparently it was unnecessary for him to do so, as midway through, Devon was slammed to the ground.
