88. Survive

lGesta stood in front of his father, Conrad, with Verix at his side. Conrad's expression was unreadable, and Gesta felt a knot forming in his stomach. He had just revealed to his father that the monster they had fought was none other than Devon, the man they had believed to be dead.

Conrad’s eyes narrowed as he processed the information. “Are you sure it was him?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

Gesta nodded firmly. “I saw him with my own eyes, Father. It was definitely Devon.”

Conrad’s face grew even darker. “I had ordered my men to finish him off. How could he still be alive?”

“Uh, don’t you realize the men you sent never made it back, Sir?” reminded Verix. “There hadn’t been any news coming as well and you decided to shrug it off as self-claimed victory.”

Conrad glared at his son’s bodyguard for uttering such insolent remark. Verix gasped when he realized that he had irritated Conrad’s pride. The ground was the only thing he could gaze for now.
