TRUST ON THE EGDE

The team moved through the abandoned subway tunnel, the sound of their boots echoing off the cracked walls. Dim emergency lights flickered overhead, casting long shadows that danced across the concrete floor. Tension clung to the air like a thick fog, thickening with each step.

Marcus led the way, but his eyes kept drifting back to Raven, who walked silently a few paces behind him. The man’s movements were so quiet, so controlled, it unnerved him. Every instinct Marcus had told him to keep his guard up. The last thing they needed was another betrayal.

Evelyn, ever perceptive, seemed to notice his unease. She sidled up next to Marcus, her voice low. “You don’t trust him.”

Marcus glanced at her, then back at Raven. “Can you blame me? We don’t know anything about him.”

Evelyn kept her eyes forward. “He’s proven useful so far.”

“Useful doesn’t mean trustworthy,” Marcus muttered. “The last time we let someone in too easily, we nearly lost everything. I’m not making that mistake again.”
