The next day.
Tobias' health was much better than last night. The headache that had hit his head disappeared three hours after the fight with the debt collectors. Now, he woke up earlier than Muino, who still slept on his bed.
He took a piece of paper and left a message for the old man. It was a promise to come back after arriving in Stratham. Tobias also thanked Muino for letting him borrow his horse and gave him his best sword.
"Hey, Amu," Tobias said, summoning his divine system.
[Yes. Do you need anything, Master?]
"How many people came from the same world as me before?" asked Tobias.
[Transmigration of souls is the authority of the gods. A system like mine created by them wouldn't be able to figure it out]
"I see, huh? Looks like I'll have to find out myself," Tobias replied.
Once everything was ready, the young man stepped out of the house while carrying two swords on his body's right and left sides. He walked near the stables and found two horses already awake; they looked strong and healthy.
The first horse had a white and black pattern, while the second was completely brown. Tobias took the brown and left one horse for Muino. He began to attach his riding gear to the horse's back and rode away from the house toward the nearest village centre.
Tobias could only hope that Muino would be fine without him, as the threat of debt collectors would not just disappear. The journey from Muino's home to the nearest village took two hours.
Along the way to the village, Tobias didn't find anything dangerous. He only met forest animals such as rabbits, cats, chickens, and to his surprise, a medium-sized wild boar.
From his direction, a row of houses came into view, as well as a better dirt road in contrast to the path Tobias travelled in the forest. Just as Tobias started to take that route, his horse stopped when he saw two small children running down the road.
They seemed to be playing soccer, both running in fear when they came face to face with Tobias' brown horse. Their mother was drying clothes in the front yard.
Without dismounting, Tobias asked her in a rather stern voice about the route to Stratham. At first, the woman was reluctant to say anything because Tobias had scared her children.
"You must apologize to my child, and I will tell you," the woman said sternly.
"Apologize? I didn't do anything to them," Tobias retorted, reluctant to say sorry for something he didn't think was his fault.
"Didn't do anything? Your arrival has made my two kids cry in fear!" the woman replied, raising her voice so high that someone appeared to come out of the house.
A man walked out, not quite thin, wearing a long black robe with a wand in his hand. He stood beside his wife as he asked about the situation in front of the house.
"Darling, that man has scared our kids," the woman said, accusing Tobias of false facts.
"I didn't do anything wrong to them. Why don't you ask them?!" said Tobias, telling the stubborn woman to ask her own kids.
She certainly didn't want to follow what Tobias wanted. Since he and the family had no agreement, Tobias decided to leave them.
[Magic Skill: Stone Wall]
Tobias' horse came to a stop again when a two-meter-high wall blocked his way into the village centre. Only one person could have cast the spell, either the mother or the father of those kids.
Tobias looked to the side and saw a man holding out his wand, which glowed a magic circle from the tip of the wand toward Tobias' horse's front. The young man realized that the stone was created by the father.
"You must take responsibility for my children. Apologize to them," the man replied, glaring at Tobias.
Tobias's hand reflexively grasped the hilt of his black sword, preparing to shatter the magic-spawned stone wall with his sacred sword skills. However, his hand stopped when he saw the expressions of their two kids.
In his mind, it was not good to show a sword blade to a child of that age; it could have a bad impact in the future because it would always be remembered for this incident. Tobias abandoned his intention and chose to bow his head to the family, sorry for his impoliteness.
The stone wall that the middle-aged man had appeared on began to disappear. They accepted Tobias' apology as he asked the young man to leave.
"The Stratham City is in the southwest direction. Follow this village road until you leave the village, then take a right at the first three intersections," the middle-aged man replied, gesturing towards the war-ravaged city.
Tobias thanked the man for the information. He resumed his horse-riding journey toward the centre of the village, leaving the family home with an aching heart.
"What exactly is he looking for in that ruined city?"
***
There were no obstacles during Tobias' trip to Stratham City. He only saw villagers carrying their crops passing by on his right and left.
But about halfway into the city, he noticed troops in black armour on standby. They were quite numerous and well-equipped.
Tobias arrived at a place with a border sign, which was quite confusing because a village border with a crossbar wasn't necessary unless Atrea's territory was getting smaller.
"Where are you going?" asked one of the soldiers, squinting as he noticed Tobias' appearance was different from the average villager.
"I'm going to Stratham City. They need me," Tobias replied, not dismounting.
"Who are you? Are you part of the reinforcements?" the soldier asked.
Not one, but three soldiers with the same colour armour and a sword at their waist seemed to surround Tobias. Tobias' presence alerted many soldiers, especially since he was the only one seen carrying two swords on his waist.
"You're using a different sword from us. What will you do with it?" asked one of the soldiers to Tobias' right.
"I am Tobias Archibald. The third child of the Archibald Nobility of Stratham City. I plan to fight with them against Valcke's army," Tobias explained, speaking straightforwardly to the surprise of the soldiers around him.
"Archibald? I thought Giselle was all they had left," one of the soldiers said, making Tobias flinch in surprise.
"What do you mean? Aren't there Thompson and Darwin?" asked Tobias sternly.
"Where have you been? There was a great battle in Stratham at night, just one day before the reinforcements arrived," the soldier explained.
Tobias reflexively dismounted as he strode toward the man. He grabbed the man's black armour, causing many colleagues to draw their swords and point them at Tobias.
"What happened to the people of the city?!" snapped Tobias, genuinely curious about what had happened during his week away.
"M-Many were killed. Those who survived were evacuated to Langdale City," the man replied, visibly frightened by Tobias' angry expression.
"It can't be."
Tobias was completely shocked by the news. There was no way Thompson and Darwin could have been defeated by Valcke's troops even though the enemy had more soldiers. His heart was still reluctant to accept the news from the soldiers and chose to check the place by himself.
The young man turned with a serious gaze toward the border guard soldier. He ordered him to open the bars, or he would use force to leave.
"I've warned you. Stratham Town has fallen into Valcke territory. You won't find anything there," the soldier said.
He agreed to open the border barrier to Tobias, and the young man immediately left the place at high speed. He wanted to reach Stratham quickly and confirm the doubts in his heart.
"I'm sure they're still alive there," Tobias replied, speeding through the forest.
His right hand began to draw his black sword, preparing for the worst of the soldiers' words. However, deep in Tobias' heart, the young man believed his family was still alive in the city. Tobias was sure they must be hiding in a secret place unknown to Valcke's troops.
"Valcke! I won't forgive them!"
It was shocking information for Tobias. What will he find in Stratham City? Keep following my story and if you like it, vote, review, and give me your thoughts on this chapter. Thank you and happy reading :)
It was a short distance to Stratham Town. He could see rows of houses damaged by the war through the forest's trees. Tobias stopped his brown horse as he looked around the area.He dismounted with his right hand clutching his black sword. Tobias did it for no reason. His warrior instinct told him that this area was surrounded by Valcke's troops."Get out," Tobias said. What he guessed was right, ten Valcke troops came out from their hiding place. The ten men spread around Tobias until they formed a circle and surrounded the young man."You must be one of the reinforcements!" said one of them.Tobias was silent. He held his black sword with both hands, alert with a strong stance. The threat this time was real enough for Tobias. If he failed to fight them, he would be killed."I'm not an army of reinforcements. I came to Stratham to find my family!" Tobias moaned.Hearing Tobias' words made the ten soldiers surrounding him laugh out loud. They thought the young man was a madman looking
As Tobias agreed to their offer, the back gate of Archibald's residence opened, allowing Tobias to leave the house and the city. None of Valcke's soldiers dared to approach him or even attack Tobias. Several people had been injured by Tobias' attacks; Valcke's soldiers were not stupid. Safety was more important than the man's life which wasn't worth a platoon of Valcke troops. "Bring the wounded troops to be treated. Make sure none of the soldiers attacks him," said the man who used magic, his higher position than the soldiers made them immediately obey the man's words. "Why did you let him go? Couldn't he be a threat to us in the future?" asked one of the men who happened to be standing near the magic user. "If we don't release him, I'm afraid he'll kill everyone in this place," explained the man, thinking of the worst that could happen if Tobias got angry and killed everyone in the Archibald residence. "His power is truly extraordinary and unknown to us. The wise choice is to le
"What?" asked Tobias, surprised."Who are you? Why are you full of blood?" asked Giselle, staring intently at the young man standing outside the border.Tobias' hands raised, touching his cheeks, and he felt the blood all over his face. No wonder Giselle asked such a question since Tobias' face was completely covered."Give me some water," Tobias asked one of the border guards. The man wearing armour handed Tobias a bottle of water available at the border post. The young man washed his hands and face, making his skin tone and look clearly visible to Giselle. The woman was in shock, stunned, with her mouth agape. Her hands and body shook as she saw Tobias, her brother, who she thought was dead, standing firmly in front of her."T-Tobias...?" asked Giselle, confirming with teary eyes."It's good to see you, Giselle," Tobias said, smiling. The border gate opened, and Giselle hugged the brother she had missed so much without hesitation. Tobias also embraced Giselle's body, his heart relie
*** The next day Tobias' health was much better than yesterday; even the young man felt he had fully recovered. He wore navy blue long-sleeved clothes with black pants, both of which Giselle had prepared before. On the right and left waist, two katana-type swords of different colors were attached; one was dark blue, while the other was black. For the next several battles, Tobias would use the black sword instead of the blue one since he didn't have full rights to it yet. There was a soft knock on the door to Tobias' room. The young man ordered the man to open the door, revealing a soldier wearing white armor standing behind the door. A soldier with white armor indicated that he was part of the city and noble forces, while a soldier with black was a royal soldier. "Lady Giselle expects your presence in the town square," the man replied. Tobias nodded as he told him that he would be leaving soon. Tobias walked over to the medium-sized mirror on the wall. The young man could see tha
"They have more men than Langdale. I'm sure these men can handle this war," Tobias replied.Honestly, his heartfelt upset that he could not participate in helping Equestria's army to fight Valcke. Tobias was sure Giselle felt the same way, demeaned that she had not reached the level of a magic user capable of fighting a war."But what about Mom and Luke? Are you going to ignore them?" Giselle asked."I miss them. I want to save them as well. I'm pretty confident they can rescue them both," Tobias replied. He assured Giselle there was nothing to worry about in this war. Tobias could see from the seriousness of the soldiers that they had the passion to stop the war. While they were talking, a black-armored soldier walked over. Both hands seemed to be holding the saddle ropes of a neighing horse. The soldier said Giselle and Tobias could leave on the horses."My lord gave this horse because of his generosity. Take it and do his command well," t
"Yes. We are the House of Archibald," Tobias replied. The two people in front of Tobias couldn't hide their surprise. It never came to their minds that their children would be trained by the honorable nobles of the Atrea region. They bowed low, feeling honored that the House of Archibald would accept their two children."We don't know how to thank you, Lord and Lady Archibald," the man replied."You don't have to do that. Live healthy and happy. That's what you should do for your children," said Giselle."Raise your head. There's no need to kneel like that," Tobias pleaded. The young man hated such an attitude so much that he felt they were lower in status than the nobles. Since Tobias was still Taichi, the culture of mutual respect and not being arrogant over titles was deeply ingrained in him. That was why he didn't like when people thought they or other nobles were special. Tobias' different attitude amazed the two of them. They were so lucky to meet Tobias and Giselle. The two sta
"What does that mean?" asked Theo.He said so because he did not have divine abilities like his sister, Mira. Giselle was pretty sure the recent panel was a signal that Mira could cast divine spells, especially in healing magic."You could say your sister was chosen by God with divine abilities," Giselle replied."Mira has powers that most people don't have," Tobias said."Would I get it too?" asked Theo, curious."I don't know, you might get it, maybe not," Tobias replied.Giselle crouched before Mira, rubbing her head as she thought she was lucky. Giselle would not stop teaching Mira until she became a great priest if things were going like this.Even though Mira was his sister, Theo didn't seem happy when much attention started falling on the girl. Tobias realized just as the man watched the facial lines of the boy beside him.Tobias shook his head, not wishing to assume Theo had an acre of the heart disease of envy. Tobias
*** Tobias and Giselle arrived at the village where Muino lived, Lockwood Village. However, the old man doesn't live in the village centre or the surrounding areas. He preferred to avoid the countryside and let it melt into the forest's serenity. Giselle followed Tobias' horse, even as her brother seemed to pass through the path to continue into the forest's depths. Tobias passed in front of the house of a family who had once stopped him for a moment because of their stubbornness. Tobias' mount travelled slowly, anticipating the presence of mines in the surrounding area of the path that were commonly used to trap forest animals. "Are you sure this is the way to your friend's house?" asked Giselle. "I'm sure the memory is still in my head. How could I forget it?" Arryn asked back. What Tobias was looking for finally came to him, a wooden house with a chimney on top. Tobias dismounted and tied the horse to one tree. "What's wrong, Tobias?" asked Giselle. She asked for no reason.
