Chapter 22. Pride
Halbert led Tobias and Giselle to the prison, not at the residence but next to this place. Halbert walked slowly. Because of the man's size, he had to break stride occasionally to take a breath.

Tobias glanced at Giselle. Both siblings knew what was happening to Halbert; his weight made it difficult for the man to walk far.

But Halbert did it anyway, considering Tobias and Giselle were part of House Archibald, a noble with a higher rank than him. If the bulky man refused, he risked being isolated and even bullied.

Along the way to the prison, Tobias and Giselle often saw poorly dressed and dirty villagers carried by well-built men. Neither of them suspected that many people were trapped by the debt Halbert had given them.

"Don't worry about them. It's not your business," Halbert said.

He opened the side door of his residence, stepping out to arrive at a box-shaped place with windows made of iron bars. Halbert proudly displayed the prison he had made for debtors who refused to pay.
