“So that's all about the premises,” Jake said as they stepped out of the storeroom behind the Print Odd building. “As time goes on, you'll get used to the ins and outs of the building."

"Thank you,” Howard said to Jake, grateful for the detailed tour. The Print Odd building was quite bigger than it looked. If Jake hadn't shown him around, he was sure to get lost someday.

“So now, let's head up so I can introduce you to the two second most important people after the boss.”

“Okay,” Howard said, then he added, guessing. "That would be the manager and…" He trailed off, and Jake didn't hesitate to fill in.

“And his secretary. They basically run this place since the boss is always busy."

Howard nodded as they made their way inside the main building.

Jake first walked them toward Vivian's cubicle. And as luck would have it, as they approached, he saw that Amy was right there with her, hunched over Vivian's desk, both of their gazes glued to the system as she pointed at the desktop's screen,

“People need to learn to drive properly,” Kevin muttered under his breath, shaking his head as he slowed down and allowed a motorcycle to speed past the front of his car. If he had been driving as recklessly as the boy and kept up with his speed without being cautious, he'd have hit the ignorant boy. As he marched on the accelerator and returned to his initial average speed, his gaze followed the young boy on the motorcycle who had sped ahead. Kevin began to contemplate if he should go after the boy and reprimand him for his speed. He was on a packed highway; he should move with some sense and not just speed ahead because he feels adrenaline pumping through his body because he's on a power bike. Before Kevin could make up his mind, his attention was drawn from the motorcycle that was rapidly disappearing in the distance ahead; his phone rang out. With his gaze now on the road, he reached for his phone on the dashboard. He switched his attention between the road and his phone. Ashe c

Kevin ended the call with Gideon. He was about to pull back on the road when his phone rang again. With his hands still on the steering wheel, he glanced back at the phone. The moment he saw the caller's ID, one of his hands fell from the wheel as he picked up his phone and answered the call.“Hello, boss, good morning.”"Lionel, good morning.”"I called to ask if you've heard from the guy, boss.”"Gideon? The one you suggested to handle the company in my absence, right?”"Yes, boss. We've talked, and I have actually given him a go-ahead. In fact, he has arrived in Landary province. He's in the country right now.”"Yes, I know that. I've heard from him. I actually just finished talking to him.”“Okay, then.”“Yeah, everything's alright. We've discussed a bit. He seems like a good guy. And I can see he's very interested in the role he'll be handling. That's a good start.”"Yes, boss. Once I told him, he accepted in a heartbeat.”Kevin chuckled lightly. "I'm not surprised.”“By the way,

“Wow,” Kevin exclaimed. "That's great!” Vivian beamed."Which company is that?" Kevin asked.“Glikkle enterprise."The name Amy mentioned immediately rang a bell. Though not as big as the Mekin company, Glikkle enterprise was one of the big businesses right now."What a great way to begin the day.” Kevin smiled. “See that we're not doomed like Mr Ross, the manager of the Mekin company equivalent to the CEO of any other company, thought we'd be."Amy and Vivian laughed lightly. “We're not, boss.” Amy said, a smile plastered on her lips. “No one can stop the Print Odd from growing."“Now, that's the zeal. Let no one intimidate you just because the company is a start up.”“Yes, boss,” they chorused, insanely glad that they had a man like Kevin as their boss."So boss, when will you be free so I can book the appointment?”Kevin ruminated on her question for a while. “Tomorrow, by 12, will be fine."“Alright, boss. I'll go get started now."Kevin nodded as Amy walked out. He handed over

Lisa lingered at the door to her classroom. She turned back the way she had come, gazing down the shirt hallway.Maybe I should go back to uncle Kevin and plead with him to follow me in, she thought. She knew that Kevin had done something to them, their apology was a testament of that, but… there was this fear that they've instilled in her. She barely ever showed it, but their presence fill her with dread. When they had walked out of the basketball court, she had grown rigid with fear until she remembered that the principal was by her side and Kevin wasn't far away.“Don't worry, Lisa,” she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “You’ve got this. You can do this. Uncle Kevin has warned them off, there's nothing to be scared about anymore.”After the quick pep talk, she lifted her chin and squared her shoulders like her mom always teaches her to, and walked into the class. She passed a quick greeting to the teacher and walked to her seat, avoiding to look in her ex-bullies’ direction.

“Okay. I was just thinking a better school would do her good," Howard said.Kevin shook his head. “No, there'll be no need for that. It's like when you have a slight headache and you decide to go for a scan when all you need is a pain reliever. I'm not saying bullying is a mild offense. It isn't. But the school is a good one. The flaw they had was not seriously tackling the issue with the bullies…” and the principal's foolishness to favor the kids of sponsors, but he didn't tell that to Howard. "And I've taken care of it. So, there's no need to worry, Howard. Put your mind at rest and continue to play your role as her father. Lisa will be fine and you'll be too."Howard looked up at Kevin and nodded. “Thank you so much, boss. I really appreciate this."Kevin shook his head. "It's nothing, really. I did it for Lisa. Every victim of bullies deserves to be freed.”"Thank you,” Howard said one last time."Yeah," Kevin said absentmindedly as he remembered to let him know that… “Your accoun

By the time his secretary returned, Kevin had already come to a conclusion, deciding what would be the perfect impromptu benefit for every staff member. “I've done as you asked, sir. They're all waiting downstairs,” Vivian said, eager to have Kevin downstairs and hear why he has asked them all to gather.“Alright," Kevin nodded. He got on his feet, grabbed his phone, and stuffed it in his pocket. At the door, just a couple of feet before Vivian, who had her hands clasped in her front and her gaze on the floor. “Lead the way," he told her.The secretary led the way, and Kevin followed her as they both walked through the hall, down the stairs to the lobby.“Good day, boss," their low conversations ceased, and they all chorused once Kevin stepped into their line of sight. He nodded. He briefly raised his hand as his gaze swept over them. “Hello, everyone. How are we all doing? How has work been today?”There was the chorus of ‘fine,’ ‘awesome,’ and ‘great.’He nodded. “Very well then.

Kevin was finally able to convince Jake. Though he was utterly certain that his boss could handle himself, he was still reluctant to leave him. But Kevin was insistent and Jake didn't want to keep telling him that he would stay with him. After he was done with his lunch; a meal of french fries and chicken, not the healthiest choice, but adequately filling, and was sure that lunch time was over, he placed a phone call to Vivian. She picked up immediately, “Hello, boss.”"Come up to my office now,” he ordered succinctly."Okay, sir.”A couple of minutes later, there was a knock on his door. "Come in," he said immediately without looking up from his desktop, aware that it was Vivian. He looked up when the door was pushed open. “I called you here regarding tonight's dinner,” he went straight to business.“Okay, boss.”"It's just a few hours from now and since it was quite impromptu, there's yet to be a reservation for the team at any restaurant. I've just sent a list of highly and positiv

This is going to be interesting, Kevin thought as he nodded, a ghost of a smile on his lips. “Yes, it's me. You're at the right place.” He shrugged when Anthony still said nothing and just stared at him, his brows slightly furrowed. “After all, you sent your men to me with a message that you'd like to meet me.”Anthony blinked, hating that he let his surprise be evident like that. Yet, he could not help the question that came out of his mouth next. "So you're Mia's husband? The one that has been beating my men up?"Kevin laughed, unable to hold himself back. And this only made Anthony angrier. It made him feel stupid. Who does he think he is, he thought, clenching his fist? Kevin covered up, “I should actually be the one to ask the questions, Anthony. Because I have no idea why on earth you would want to meet with me.”Anthony's insides simmered with anger, but his curiosity still triumphed. “Why would you want to meet me too?" He demanded. Then he added before Kevin could give him a

“So how has school been, buddy?” Kevin enquired, turning his full attention to Lisa while Alessia and Howard discussed in the background.Lisa grinned sheepishly. “Before I answer any question, I got something for you."Kevin's brows rose. His gaze flickered from Lisa's sling bag to her face. “What might that be, kiddo?"Lisa was all grins as she reached into her bag, brought out the paper bag, and stretched her hand out to Kevin.“Here. It's all for you." Kevin took the paper bag, slightly amused and at the same time pleased and grateful. He opened it, and the aroma of the freshly made cookies filled the air, wafting into everyone's nose.Alessia turned in Kevin's direction, a smile on her lips. She sniffed the air. “What's that? It smells really nice.”“My friend brought me a gift," Kevin said, intentionally tucking the cookies away from Alessia, whose eyes were fixated on the paper bag.“There's love in sharing, boss," Alessia eyed the bag, a syrupy smile on her lips.“Nope," Kevi

"So what's the plan?” Alessia eventually asked. She may not like Mia's relationship with Kevin, especially now that they were divorced, but she was ready to go with whatever plan Kevin had to save her.Kevin was silent for a while as he ruminated on his plan again.Alessia's gaze was on him, waiting, ready to get into action. So was Jake, though he was still slightly fuming with rage. He wished he could just get the order to descend on Anthony and teach him a lesson he'll never forget.“He wants the company, doesn't he?" Kevin abruptly spoke up. "Then we'd give it to him." Alessia frowned, bristled, while Jake's brows furrowed in confusion."What do you mean, boss?” they asked at the same time."His condition is to have the company handed over to him, isn't it?”"That's what you said,” Alessia answered.Kevin nodded. “Then that's what we will do. The company will go off for twenty-four hours.”Alessia's lashes fluttered multiple times. She shook her head and gathered herself. It was

“Come on, Lisa, let's go," Howard called out to Lisa from the doorway where he stood, waving at the taxi driver that just arrived.“A minute, daddy,” Lisa called back. “Thank you, Mom,” she said to her mom as she took the paper bag that contained the cookies she had made. She carefully tucked the paper bag into her sling bag.“Bye, Mommy," she called out. But she stopped when she reached the kitchen doorway. "She hurried back to her mom. “Let me take one more for Dad," she said as she picked up one piece of cookie from the bowl. “You can have the rest. Bye.”“That's so sweet of you, sweetie. Bye. Have a nice day. Send my regards to Mr. Kevin,” Irene rushed out after her daughter. She picked up a cookie and munched on it. She sighed and closed her eyes, savouring the burst of flavours on her tongue. Her daughter had gotten significantly better at making cookies. She had woken up so early in the morning, her spirits high because of her impending visit to Kevin, and announced that she wa

Kevin had thought it would all end with the divorce, but it didn't. He had placed his phone on the ‘do not disturb’ mode. He had been surprised when he unlocked his phone and saw his ex-wife's number top the list of the calls he had missed. She had called him over a dozen times. At first, he was irked but worried. Why would Mia call so many times? It was unusual. She certainly wasn't the type to call so many times. The highest she'd do was try to reach the person a couple of times before she'd let it go.All this was why he hadn't been able to shake off the thought that something might be wrong. Eventually, he called her back. She didn't really sound like herself. There had been a plea in her voice that Kevin could not just ignore. He sighed again as he got into the taxi that would take him to the address. He opened the location-sharing app where she'd shared her location with him and read it out to the driver, directing him once in a while.Eventually, he got to the place. The bar lo

Mia wondered how far out she had driven. Did Kevin lie when he said he'd be there? Was he going to ditch her like Donald did too?She turned on her phone's screen to check her call log to see how long it had been since their last call. She blinked when she took in the time displayed on her phone's screen, and her mouth formed an ‘O.’ It's just been three minutes. She sighed. She needed to just chill.Even when Kevin allowed himself to be used as a house boy, he was always unapologetically honest. She knew that if he said he was going to come, then he surely would. She just needed to remain patient. While she waited for Kevin, she sipped her water. Though she still yearned for a drink, maybe something to make her feel bolder, she concluded that it would be better if she was sober when he arrived. She didn't know what turn the conversation would take, or if she'd ever get to see him again; she didn't want to ruin this opportunity. As she sipped her drink, her mind wandering, she vaguely

Mia heard Kevin let out a long sigh. And she couldn't help but wonder what he thought of her. Clingy? Pathetic? She sure sounded like one. But she didn't care. At that moment, at least. She just wanted to see him, talk things out with him, and have that tranquillity she suddenly believed that she deserved.“Kevin, are you still there?" She bit her lips when he let out another sigh.“What do you want to talk about, Mia? What do we have to talk about?” He still sounded exasperated like he had sounded since he picked up the call, but there was the hint of concern in his tone. And Mia latched onto it like a lifeline.“Don't you think we have to talk? I understand that you already signed the divorce papers, but it can't just end like that. Please, let's meet even if it's the last time.”A brief silence. Then, “Which bar are you at?”Mia frowned. Her gaze went to the entrance and then around the bar, but there was no name or address anywhere inside.“I'm not sure,” she told him, feeling dum

Mia had always known that her grandmother never cared about her or anyone at all. She uses people for her gain, but, somehow, she fooled herself into thinking and believing that her case might be different. After all, she has given her life to the company she so cherishes, working tirelessly to keep it in the limelight, thus allowing her grandmother to keep her shoulder high… but it meant nothing to her. Perhaps her grandmother thought she was so mighty that everyone had to worship her.But just for once, couldn't she have pretended? Mia thought. Mia had never allowed herself to get this mad or show emotion like this. It was a telltale of how angry and saddened she was, yet her grandmother disregarded it like it was nothing.Mia regarded her grandmother for a while, wondering what would ever make her see anyone other than herself as a human with emotions.“What use are wishes if they don't get granted?” Mia spat at her grandmother, not bothering to keep the anger and distaste from her

It's only been about ten minutes, but it felt like twenty hours as Mia repeatedly tapped her feet on the floor. The stares had begun to irritate her, and she couldn't stop herself from turning to the restaurant's entranceway, hoping that her date would step in.“Good evening, ma'am,” another table attendant with a practiced smile similar to her colleague's stopped by her table. "What would you like to have?”Mia, despite the growing anger in her, managed to offer her a smile. "Water,” she grinned. "Sparkling water would do," she finished, her smile still intact. She was not interested in anything, but she couldn't allow the fourth attendant to walk up to her again. The lady's eyes fell on the table, and Mia followed her gaze. When she saw the crystal glass pitcher filled with water and the flute glass before her, she muttered, “Of course," and pressed her lips together. That was what she had told the first table attendant that she wanted. It was still untouched. Her cheeks flushed wi

The voice at the other end hesitated. Then he cleared his throat. “Mia. How are you?"“Fine."Mia felt a bit guilty. Donald wasn't a bad man. At least, compared to all the men her grandmother had tried to pair her with, he was a good man, but she just couldn't help it. He could have refused the date unless he got her consent, but then grandmother could be cunning whenever she wanted to be. But still… she couldn't soothe the raging anger in her. She couldn’t help but be mad at him. All of these were happening because of his presence.“Okay. So, my driver will be at your villa to pick you up."“Okay," she said, and before Donald could utter another word, she ended the call.It was with even more annoyance that she returned to the vanity mirror to continue dressing up.A while later, a knock came on her door. She stared at the door for a while. Could it be grandmother again? She wondered. On the third knock, she walked to the door and unlocked it.Her anger grew when she came face to fac
