Hiding behind a boulder I read the contents of the blue windows that popped up one after the other.

“FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!”

I was about to lose it. Why was this happening to me? What did I do to deserve it? Why do I have to go through all of this?

The moment we came out of caves we were hit with an intense wave of cold. When I was finally able to open my eyes I saw it

Up in the sky a giant blue bird flapped its wings causing violent winds coated in ice and snow. Calling it a bird might be an understatement.

That monster was the size of a three story building, covered in feathers made out of light blue ice. Its talons were polished and sharp, but most importantly they were covered in red. It had three whip like tails with blade sharp ends.

Three deep blue crystals stood on its head, a crown that proves its standing as the king of this land.

But for all of its majestic beauty all I could see was a monster. A living calamity. The terror from being under it as it soared in the sky was enough for me to lose all hope. A warm feeling spread in my pants as the piss I held in through everything up to this point leaked.

“God…” Rollo mumbled beside me. “It’s King of Frost…”

A sharp cry brought us down to our knees and in the next second spear like icicles started raining from above.

[Skill: Quick Step]

I jumped aside just in time to avoid one of the frozen spears. That broke me out of the terror and I was able to think again.

Rollo was fortunate enough that he survived the attack. I grabbed his collar and dragged him as I ran toward the cavern, however I glanced the black cloaks waiting for us near the entrance and changed course.

We safely made it to a few large boulders were we were able to take cover. It was then that I finally noticed the System Notifications.

What do you mean one of the strongest! Why the hell is it here!

“HEY!” I turned to Rollo, my terror turning to wrath. “WHAT IS THAT THING!!! WHY DIDN’T YOU SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!?”

“HOW WOULD I KNOW!” He shouted back. “THAT THING ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE REAL!!!”

Another wave of icy wind swiped the area.

“What do you mean it isn’t real!? It’s right there goddamn it!!”

“The king is said to be the guardian deity of these mountains!” Rollo peeked his head trying to get a look at the monster. “It’s only mentioned in legends! No one saw it up close and lived to tell the tale!”

Shit!

What are we gonna do now!? How do we get out of here!?

I opened the map and tried in a desperate attempt but was once again shocked by what my eyes were seeing.

It showed a roughly circular shape with several holes in it. Those probably represented the rocks and boulders scattered around the snow field as the white dot representing me was behind one of them.

Near the edge of the map, on the side opposite to were we were, was a large yellow dot moving a little to the left then right. That would be the monster.

Hm? Something isn’t right…

“So this is what they are after…”

Hearing Rollo’s voice I immediately understood what’s going on. I tried to get a quick look myself confirming what I saw on the map.

We were too busy gawking at the giant bird in the sky that we never saw what was happening on the ground.

On the map a great number of red dots were scattered. Those represented the cultist up to this point, however the ones out here weren’t the black cloaked goons.

They were a bunch of men in unified full plate armor. Some of them carried swords and axes while others stood at the front with spears and giant shields that towered over their bodies.

“FLAME THROWERS!!!”

Someone among them shouted. The next moment the snow field was painted orange as multiple torrents of flames suddenly shot from the ground toward the flying beast.

“PREPATE THE CHAINS!”

The same guy shouted again as the flames hit their target. I glanced at the map once more and realized that the dots I thought were randomly scattered are actually gathered in groups of six creating a formation of some kind surrounding the blue bird from all direction.

The one at the very back seems to be where the commander was. It was easy to tell because of the distinct crimson armor he wore and the number of shield bearers surrounding him.

“INCOMING!”

The man in red armor shouted again. Up in the sky the beast was readying another attack. Particles of light gathered together forming sharp icicles that grew in size until they were larger than the armored knights.

The icicles rained down. A series of explosions resounded as if the area was bombarded by missiles.

While some of the icy spears pierced empty grounds others found their way to the soldiers. The shields deflected most of them but in the end a number of red dots suddenly disappeared from the map in the corner of my eyesight.
