CHAPTER 52

“Wow, I almost can't believe it,” Rose spoke, balling her fist with excitement. “I can't wait to see what is in store.”

Rose’s face soon drained into one of sadness and worry and there was an awkward silence in the phone call.

Alan, knowing Rose for a long time suspected that something was wrong. “Hey, what is going on? Talk to me.”

A slight grin escaped at the corner of Rose’s lips and she slumped her shoulder in defeat, her whole body wet in sweat.

“Errm, I didn't know how to say this earlier but I am in a very delicate situation at this moment,” Rose uttered, her voice tinged with worry.

“What? What kind of a delicate situation? Is it about money? I know that—-”

“No, it's not necessarily money,” Rose cut Alan short. “This is much more serious. It is more like a life-and-death situation. I might just die any moment from now.”

Alan’s voice faltered with a deadly hitch of confusion. What could Rose possibly be facing that would make her think that she was going to die?
