Bad Day For The Inn

The following day, the man and Gavin woke up and after eating breakfast made by the man they left the house. They got to the Inn in no time and opened it, Gavin following the man's instruction cleaned the place and arranged the chairs.

After doing that, the man went into his office while Gavin stayed back in the inn, he took a chair outside and sat by the door staring at the people on the road. He had nothing to do and there was no customer so he decided to get himself busy by watching other people doing their things.

While he was staring at the people his eyes caught some kids the same age as him doing things he had never seen. One of the kids stomped his feet on the ground and it rumbled followed by pieces of rocks that began to rise in the air, this continued until the rocks formed the shape of a house. The other kids clapped their hands in excitement while the boy kept smiling proudly.

"What in the hell is that?" Gavin asked with his eyes wide open, "The kids are using magic? but how?" he was shocked to see kids his age using magic.

While he was still in shock, another kid walked to where a large pot Of water was kept and began to move her hands upwards, the water in the pot began to rise following the movement of her hands. The girl muttered something that the kids heard except Gavin and water began to form until it turned to a large python.

"What! how is that possible?" Gavin asked still in shock, he could see how happy the girl is after creating her spell.

He was about to focus his attention on the third kid when some group of men approached him and blocked his view.

"Wha...What would you men like to take, I'll go prepare it right away," Gavin said in his most normal tone. He dared not chase his helper's customers away.

"Where is that old man, tell him to come out at once!" Said one of the men who looked like the boss.

Gavin stared at them observing them one after the other. 'They don't look like they are hungry rather they look like they are having some issues with the man, but I have to find a way to dismiss them'

"He is not around, how about you come tomorrow," He told them and stood up to go inside.

"And where the hell do you think you're going?" the boss growled and held the boy back. Gavin tried to free his hand but it was impossible.

"Let me go!" Gavin angrily said to the man who grinned and tightened his grip on his thin hand.

"Tell me where that old fool is and I'll let you go," said the boss with a smirk on his face.

"I've told you, he isn't around! Come back tomorrow..."

*paah*

A slap landed on Gavin's face without any warning.

"You don't lie to me! now go tell him to come out here or we will burn this Inn down!" the boss said and loosened his grip on the boy's arm.

"I told you he isn't around, why don't you just leave," said Gavin in a frustrating manner, he had tried all he could to make the men leave but they were bent on seeing the man.

"I despise stubborn kids like you, get out of my way!" The boss said and waved his hand, before Gavin could process what was going on he was sent flying to a nearby wall.

*BAM*

"Ahh..." Gavin yelled at the impact, he tried to stand up but the pains he was getting could not let him. He hopelessly watched as the boss went into the Inn to return with the man in his grasp.

"Let him go!" Gavin yelled from where he was lying on the ground.

"Such a useless kid, old man where did you get that kid from?" the boss asked staring at Gavin in disdain.

"It's not your business," the man replied.

"Very well, where is the month's payment? The chief requests of it."

"Tell him that I haven't made any income, I'll pay up when I've made some," the man replied with a helpless look. He knew the village chief.... who doesn't know him! A rich powerful man that hates the poor so much, he doesn't miss an opportunity to extort money from them for one reason or the other. He doesn't take advice from anyone and when someone tells him the truth, he puts him to death.

"This is the third time and you haven't paid! The chief needs his money and it must be today or we'll burn this place down," the boss said angrily.

"But he said he's got no money! leave him alone!" Gavin was already on his feet and so he quickly rushed over to the man and held him firmly, " Tell that chief of yours that he shouldn't expect any money today."

"What insolence! how dare you talk about the chief in that manner? have you no fear!" the boss yelled as he began to activate his spell.

"It hadn't gotten to that young man, he is just a kid. It will be shameful that you are seen fighting with a kid like him that has no powers."

The boss after hearing what the mam said thought about it and decided to let it go, he dispelled the windy spell but still didn't leave.

"What about the money?".

"Give me something and I'll get the money for him," the man replied.

"But sir, how will you get the mo....."

"Don't bother about it," the man turned to Gavin and shut him up, "I'll make it in some way or the other, just tell the chief that I need some time," he said reassuringly.

"Fine! I'll let the chief know what you said and as for you kid, don't go about running that little mouth of yours or you will end up getting killed."

With that, the boss and his lackeys left the Inn. The man sighed as he watched the men and went back inside, while Gavin stood at that same spot, his eyes didn't leave the men not even when they were out of sight.

"These men will surely return tomorrow! This man shouldn't have promised such a thing when he knows it's impossible," he said hopelessly before looking at the people that have been watching the whole scene. "Not one of them came to his help? but rather they stood at a far distance watching what was going on!" Anger spread on his face as he stared at the people, after some time he walked inside the Inn in disgust because he couldn't continue staring at their ugly faces.
