Saving The Inn (1)

It has been an hour since the man entered his office after what happened and Gavin bad become slightly worried. Occasionally he would go to the office and put his ears on the door in expectation to hear any sound but there was nothing as such, it was quiet.

Not minding the pains on his back, Gavin still tried to clean the mess created by those men earlier and arranged everything to their normal look. After he was done with that he went into the kitchen and stared at all the food the man had prepared, they all had a pleasant look but it was lacking in taste, he didn't want the man to feel bad so he never complained about the food and so he came up with a plan.

In his first life, he had learned to cook from his sister who was a great cook, she had learned to cook when she was only four years and as she was growing up, her skills in cooking were advanced. She had persuaded her brother into learning how to cook and after many persuasions, he gave in.

"I need to use the skills I learnt from my sister and prepare some nice looking and tasty meals, then go shades by shades to see if I can sell them, this is the only way I can help the man raise some money even if it enough for only half payment, its better than not paying at all," Gavin muttered to himself as he began to pick out some food ingredients from a cupboard.

"What smells so nice like this?" the man walked into the kitchen sniffing his nose like a dog, seeing Gavin on the apron and in front of the fire he curiously walked up to him. "You are cooking?" he asked taking a peep inside the pot.

"Yes sir, I thought about an idea that might seem to work for us," Gavin replied while stirring the food.

"And what could that be?"

"From now on I'll be making the foods so you don't have to worry about that. The real plan is that once I'm done making this food I'll go sell them to people outside, I believe that after tasting them, they'll have no choice but to start coming here...."

As Gavin kept talking, the man suddenly hugged him making him pause on his words, he was about to ask the man what the hug was for but hearing the man's sniffs he kept quiet and allowed the man to finish what he was doing.

"I'm sorry about that, I could not contain the happiness anymore," the man apologised while wiping the tears in his eyes.

"It's okay Sir, it's good that you are happy," Gavin replied in a gentle tone.

"Uhm, so what are you making?"

"It's called peppered sauce fish, I used the fishes in that basin to prepare this, it's highly nutritious because I also spiced it with the ginger and red peppers over there," while he explained, the man kept nodding and smiling, this was what he had wanted for so many years after the death of his son and wife. His Inn lacked customers not because of anything but for the fact that his dishes were not tasty.

"Sir! Sir! are you listening to me at all?" Gavin asked in almost a loud voice causing the man to startle.

"Yes, I was kind of lost in thought, you were saying??"

*signs*

"Sir, I said do you mind having a bite of my food so you'll tell me how it tastes," Gavin served a plate of hot sauced fish to the man who collected it.

They both walked to the Inn where the man took a seat and prepared himself for the new assignment. He fetched a spoon of the food and settled it inside his mouth.

"How does it taste?" Gavin asked curiously with his eyes fixed on the man's moving mouth.

"It's..."

"It's what? tell me!" Gavin almost yelled at the man seeing how reluctant he was to say a word.

"This is so nice! In all my years of staying alone I have never tasted food so tasty as this," the man said with excitement as he began to munch on the food again.

"Really?"

"Really! You know I would have said that your dishes are tastier than my wife's but I do not want her getting mad at me from the heavens," the man said and chuckled same with Gavin who could not hold in the laugh.

When the man finished eating, Gavin cleared the table and told the man that he wants to go out to sell, the man agreed and went back into his office to sleep as he was already overfed.

Gavin served some food into deep plates and arranged them in a cart just behind the Inn, when he was done with that he drove the cart to the streets to begin his mission.

Shade after shade he would stop and ask if they needed food, some would say no, some would not say a word while some would harshly send him away. Nevertheless, he kept going with the determination of selling the whole food. He had vowed to sell the whole food before returning to the Inn.

He drove his cart until he got to a shade, there he saw a boy slightly older than him operating a smartphone.

"People in this world have been introduced to technology? that is cool! maybe he can buy a meal from me," Gavin mumbled and decided to go meet the boy.

The boy with the smartphone raised his head and saw Gavin coming towards him with a cart and furrowed his brows. "Is there a problem?" he asked.

"No, I was wondering if you could buy food from me. They are tasty and I promise you will like it," Gavin said with every confidence.

"I see you haven't sold a thing since your cart is still loaded and I'm not interested in your foods so you can just go," the boy said and bent down to his phone.

Gavin stared at the boy for a while without blinking, he would lie if he said that the boy wasn't good looking. His purple hair matched the colour of his indigo pupils, his face carved most perfectly and his lips...

"What the fuck are you doing staring at me like that?" the boy suddenly asked startling Gavin and pulling him out of his daydream.

"I..I....."

"You what?"

"I was hoping if you could buy my food please!" Gavin almost yelled.

"I told you no!" the boy sternly said and stood up to go inside the shade when Gavin held him by his arm.

"Please! anything I'll do it," Gavin pleaded, he didn't want to return with the cart still filled with the food.

"Anything?" the boy asked raising his brows.

"Anything!"
