Chapter 7: A Meal

Ethan was caught off guard as he turned around to see Lily's best friend, Charlotte, standing there with a sneer on her face. He took a deep breath and composed himself, trying not to let his emotions get the best of him.

"Hello, Charlotte. What are you doing here?" He asked, trying to sound as polite as possible.

"I could ask you the same thing," she said, still sneering. "What business do you have in this hotel?"

"I'm here to get food, is there any problem with that?" He asked

"Get food?" She chuckled. "Have you forgotten where you're standing Ethan? This is a 7star hotel, is an ordinary cleaner like you qualified? I even think you sneaked your way in because no security guard would allow a shabbily dressed person like you here." She replied

Ethan tried to ignore Charlotte's condescending attitude and maintain a cool composure. "I'm not just a cleaner," he replied calmly. "And it's not your business what I do or don't do in this hotel."

Charlotte smirked, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "Suit yourself," she said, flipping her hair. "But if you think you can afford the food here, you're dreaming. You're not exactly rolling in cash, are you?"

Ethan bristled at her words, but before he could respond, she dropped a bombshell. "Oh, and by the way, your lovely wife Lily just called. She said you're divorced.

"She also told me about how you came to meet her and Mr. Roger making out." Charlotte mocked

Ethan's face twisted in anger. He didn't expect Lily to be so shameless to even tell Charlotte about it.

"Yes we're divorced? Are you happy now? Kindly leave so I go my way." Ethan said with an angry expression

"Oh, it seems you're angry, haha. Are you feeling pain in your heart? Lily did the right thing." Charlotte said. "Do you know who Roger Anderson is? He's the CEO for Nexus Global, a company under the Aureus Group, Lily is going to achieve more by being involved in a relationship with him."

"Aurerus group?" Ethan was stunned. He now owned Aurerus and Roger Anderson company was just a little company under Aurerus meaning he was Roger's boss.

Seeing his expression, Charlotte mistook it for he being afraid, she couldn't help but sneer at him.

"Afraid at the mention of Aurerus? Do you know the powerful person behind that group? You wouldn't dare think twice of ever going against him." She said

A loud smirk appeared at the corner of Ethan's lips. He thought to himself, "Roger Anderson, just wait and see how I deal with you."

"Can you give me the space to go and order what I want to have?" He asked

"Who's stopping you? Even your useless piece of cake got smashed, do you think food sold here is $50? I pray you're thought a big lesson when caught." Charlotte said and walked past him.

Ethan shook his head before walking away.

As he got to the hotel restaurant's front desk, Charlotte was already there. Ethan approached the front desk, trying to ignore her presence. But as he got closer, he heard her arguing with the lady at the desk about the price of the food.

"I don't care what you say; I know the owner of this hotel, and I'm not paying that much for this food!" Charlotte exclaimed, her face red with anger.

"Miss. I'm sorry, but that's not how it works; only those with a membership card can get the food for that price, but since you don't, you can't have it." The receptionist said

"Who cares? I have a membership card and I just forgot it; what's the big deal?" She yelled. "I can get your main boss to fire you if you dare act funny with me." She threatened.

Ethan couldn't help but laugh lightly. Charlotte wants to pay a low price even when she has no membership with her, but she dared threaten the receptionist that she knows the main boss and can get her fired.

Ethan decided not to mind it, but he could see that the other customers in the area were getting uncomfortable with the scene, so without wasting time, he stepped in.

"Excuse me, what's going on here?" he asked, trying to defuse the situation.

Charlotte turned to him with a sneer, "What do you care? You're just a lowly cleaner."

Ethan frowned but didn't mind Charlotte; rather, he turned to the receptionist and asked.

"What's going on here?"

The receptionist was shocked seeing Ethan.

"Welcome Sir."

She said respectfully. This was because his picture had been forwarded to her just a minute ago by the hotel manager, who had given strict instructions to all staff members to treat him with the utmost respect.

"What's going on here?" He asked again.

"Sir, this lady is trying to pay a discounted price for the food without her membership card. But when I asked to see her card, she kept giving me excuses."

Ethan looked at Charlotte with a raised eyebrow and asked, "What's the matter? Don't you have your membership card with you?"

Charlotte sneered at him, "None of your business, Ethan. Mind your own affairs."

"Still act rude when you can't even pay full price for a meal?" Ethan sneered at her.

"Ptfff!" Charlotte couldn't help but laugh.

"Look at how shabbily you're dressed, Ethan. I even have a level one membership card, which I've left at home, and I can also pay for the food I want. What about you, Ethan?" She mocked

"You're just a broke part-time cleaner, but you dare act big here? Believe it or not, I'll have the security guard throw you out." She said

Her loud voice got all the other customers staring at Ethan as some mocked him.

"I wonder who let him here; see how dirty his clothes are."

"Hoho, maybe he sneaked in here." They started to murmur words of mockery at Ethan.

Charlotte looked happy hearing their words of mockery. She decided to go hard on Ethan, so she turned towards him and said:

"Ethan Nightangle, poor part-time cleaner who was cuckolded on by his wife a few minutes ago, can you leave this space before I call the security guards in?"

"Huh?"

The receptionist was shocked. Ethan's picture had been forwarded to her, showing he was an important person, and she needed to take good care of him and give him a VIP treat, but here was Charlotte now calling him names and asking him to leave.

Even though she knew that Charlotte and Ethan might know each other, she wouldn't keep quiet about it.

"Miss, what do you mean by he should leave? Don't you know he's a V.

"Shut up, you common receptionist." Charlotte said angrily. "Who's he? A low part-time cleaner who has sneaked in here; do you want to lose your job by protecting him?"

She turned to Ethan again and continued. "Ethan, you're here to get a meal right? If you're able to show me just a $100 bill then I'll kneel and call you dad." She said

"What if I don't?" Ethan replied with a question.

Charlotte chuckled lightly and replied,

"If you don't, then I'll be forced to go and report you to the security guards and watch them deal with you bitterly."

The corners of Ethan's lips curled up lightly, and without saying a word, he dipped his hands inside his pockets.

All eyes were on him, as everyone wanted to see if he really had money or if he had nothing, as Charlotte said. After a few seconds, Ethan took both hands out of his pockets, but to everyone's surprise, there was no dollar bill in his hands.

"Not to talk of a $100 bill, Charlotte." He said. "I don't even have a dollar in my pocket." He added

"Gasp!"

Ethan's words stunned a lot of customers who were watching the scene. How poor he was—not even a $100 bill in his pockets.

"He doesn't have any bucks on him, I wonder how he wanted to buy food at a 7-star hotel."

"Just like the lady said, maybe he sneaked in here." Some people exclaimed

"Charlotte, since I have nothing, you can call the security guards here, but before that, I also have a bet to make with you."

"If no security guard touches me here even after what you tell them, then you're going to hand me every single dollar on you." He said

Charlotte frowned at his requirements, but she smiled again; after all, there was no way a loser would win her over.

"It seems you're too poor that you're thinking of getting my money right? Don't worry, Ethan; you'll never forget this day." Charlotte turned and walked away to call security for him.

Ethan didn't know whether to laugh or cry; he owned the hotel; there was no need for him to have any money on him to buy something; and there was no way a security guard would be able to touch him.

After a minute of waiting, Charlotte returned with a man dressed in a red suit following her. He was one of the men who were respectful toward Ethan a few minutes ago.

He asked in a loud voice, "What's going on here?"

Charlotte quickly spoke up, "This useless guy is trying to buy food without a membership card, and he's causing a disturbance."
