Chapter 8: Her tears has its meanings

In the cafeteria, sitting alone, in front of me was a glass of water and in my hand was a stale-looking bread. I was still gloomy about how the work turned out for today. Kisara and Charlotte are monsters who don’t even care about other people's feelings.

Seeing other people in the cafeteria eating meat made me remember the bloody scene earlier. Blood splashed on the whole dinner table. The freshly cooked meal was stained with blood.

My stomach is flipping upside down.

I gulped my vomit before it came out and immediately took the glass of water and chugged it down.

“Good evening, Red… Can I sit here?”

“Sure…”

After receiving my permission, she sat down, and on her plate was juicy red meat and red iced tea on the side.

I don’t want to look pathetic in front of her. Still… The scene is hunting me. Unlike Choco’s death. I’ve seen death with my own hands.

“You look gloomy. What happened? Did Kisara and Charlotte do something terrible to you?”

“I’m just a slave to them. Kisara and Charlotte won’t look at me like humans.”

“Don’t say something so depressing as that. There is a reason why they are like that. The world became so cruel and it twisted their minds. Kisara and Charlotte improved a lot before they came here.”

“What were they like before?”

“Kisara used to be stone-cold every time and never trust anybody. Charlotte, meanwhile, is unable to speak and always has a panic attacks. Their past is very grim. Charlotte is a survivor of an illegal psychic experiment. While the Lancer company was still small, we did extermination by ourselves as a full party.”

Princess told me Charlotte's story. Charlotte was treated like a guinea pig and suffered various torture. Including cutting off her arm, electrocuting her, and more. The princess explained to me that Charlotte enjoyed seeing other people suffer because she wanted them to know what she had been through. She especially likes torturing those who mistreated children like her before.

“... She improved a lot and talked with us at ease. Friending her at first was very hard because she thought all people were bad. The cruelty of this world twisted her. I hope she can fully recover. I believed in her.”

“What is psychic anyway?”

“Hard to explain but they have a mysterious ability that is beyond anybody… The key to Kisara and Charlotte being a little cheerful right now is because of him. There is a boy that lived with them two years before. He is young and very kind. I don’t know the details, but he suddenly disappeared. Kisara doesn’t like talking about it. Charlotte knows but she doesn’t want to say anything without Kisara’s permission.”

I remain silent and am still not fully convinced of them being good people. What they do is not justified. Kisara likes to beat the weak and Charlotte loves seeing suffering.

That is something humans should not like.

Princess continues.

“Could you tell me what happened at work today?”

“Sure.”

Having a conversation with another might lessen the heaviness of my heart. The princess trusted me to tell me things about Kisara and Charlotte. I should trust her too and give my opinion about what happened.

I told her what exactly happened and how Kisara and I pointed blades at each other.

The saint that became a demon kind. But never hurt anybody is being hated and killed just because she was a demon kind. The little girl whose future was supposed to be bright fell into despair.

“I understand what happened and I understand what you two are both standing up for. To Kisara, the enemy is the enemy. No matter what it looks like, the demon kind is something that needs to be killed.”

“The way she treated the kid is not justified,” I said.

“I agree, her action is unforgivable. Maybe Kisara likes to show that the little girl can’t do anything about what's going to happen. Charlotte perhaps finds a way to save you. She is not a very honest girl, but inside she is very sweet. About the demon kind, I can't say anything because I don't really know what is happening there."

The Princess said. Slicing the meat on her plate and eat.

“Delicious…”

Before Kisara’s blade took my head. She stopped us and gave a reason to persuade Kisara to keep me alive. It's possible, but those two are twisted. I can’t trust or respect them normally.

“I accused them of being monsters because of their personality.”

I honestly confessed to Princess.

“You’re not used to this work and I believe you. I believe that you didn’t kill your friend, Choco. You gushed out tears seeing me because you remember her in me. There is no way you’ll kill somebody you love.”

Her words are like a warm flame in the center of snowy mountains. She speaks genuinely and she’s like Choco. Not just on her face but in how she says words that make me feel at ease.

I’m very happy that I’m able to talk to her. Everything that happened earlier started to go past. I don’t want to turn back.

The event has already happened. There is no way I can correct things from the past. I learned how weak I am and my motivation to become stronger strengthens.

I started munching the stale bread as fast as I could.

“There… There… I could see the fire in your eyes again.”

The princess said and finished her meal.

Kisara and Charlotte were waiting in the lobby area. They turned their heads at me.

“Where did you go? Never mind, let's go home. I want to eat dinner and have a wonderful bath.”

Kisara asked.

“About earlier…”

“Don’t think about it. I already forgive you.” She cut in and stepped outside the company building. Charlotte followed her back. They made a pause and looked at my face.

“What are you waiting for? We’re going home.”

I took a deep breath and followed her.

As we went home, they did their normal routine of flinging their clothes on the floor and changing into their casual clothes. Eat dinner, watch cartoon shows, do whatever you like, laugh at comics, tell simple jokes, take a bath, and go to sleep.

Just like yesterday, Kisara let me sleep beside her.

Unable to sleep, I stared at the ceiling and let my thoughts swallow my head.

Time passed…

Kisara crawled under my blanket and hugged me tightly. I could feel her warmth and hear her faint voice. Kisara is crying. Her tears are wetting my clothes. I don’t know if she is awake or not.

I decided to stay put and not move.

“Don’t leave me… I’ve given everything. Please don’t leave me. Just continue listening to me. That’s all you have to do. I’ll make you happy… So please don’t leave… Don’t leave… I love you.”

She murmured, but those words were not words she wanted to say to me.

Those words are for someone special she was longing to see.

Her hugging tightens even more. Seeing her like this, I could not resist my hand and reached out to her. I pat her head and swayed her bangs, showing her forehead.

I don’t regret thinking of them as monsters but at the same time. I would like to know more about them. What drives them to become who they are now and what’s behind all their actions?

I want to know them better.

Many horrible things are about to happen to me being with them. I prepared myself for that.

The princess told me earlier before we separated. “Those two need salvation.”

If it is true, then I’ll try saving the two of you.

Kisara is trembling in fear.

“She’s asleep… It must be a horrible dream she’s in right now.”

I embraced her back. The trembling calmed down and the sobbing seemed to stop. Tomorrow, I’ll start again.
