“Is this the place?”
Kisara look down at the map again and responded:
“Yes, this is the place. I didn’t expect that the place leads us to a rundown church. A building for public and especially Christian worship. Charlotte you’re from the family of Christians right?”
“Been a long time since I visit one. I have already forgotten that I was one. I don’t believe that God exists. If he exists why do people suffer…”
“...”
Kisara goes in the lead. Opening the giant wooden door. The walls ate by ivy. Having to step inside I can say that the church could still be a place where people could live.
From my back a stone hits me.
I turned my body and saw a kid. A girl dressed in rug-like clothing. She took another stone from the ground and throw it at me.
“Go away from our town!”
Before it hits me, I tilted my head. The stone trajectory is predictable. So it was easy.
“What’s the problem kid? We’re only here to fix the problem. We’ll leave after finishing the extermination.”
The little girl's expression turned more enraged. Clenching her hand like a fist. She immediately took stones and toss them at us.
The stone was stopped mid-air and moved sideways.
Charlotte’s eyes were radiating blue.
“Exterminators! Go away we don’t need you here!”
The girl started to go emotional while tossing stones at us. And the three of us don’t have any clue why.
More problems arise when Kisara has her nerves snapped out from the yelling of the kid. I could feel her menace immediately. She’s very irritated.
She walked toward the young girl and hold her up on her neck.
“Kisara! Let her go she’s just a kid.”
“I don’t give mercy no matter who my opponent was.”
I move forward and grabbed her right arm tightly as possible and free the young girl before she lost her ability to breathe. The girl fell chasing her breath.
“What the hell is that?! The girl could’ve died because of your childishness!”
I yelled into her.
She manifested the chain and tighten it around my neck.
“You have the guts to talk back to me… You’re forgetting that you’re just a slave nothing more nothing less.”
Her eyes looked down at me. Like those eyes before I fall down here. I won’t turn my tail into her and bow down like a coward. I’m a little sick of being looked down.
I got plenty this morning already.
Losing the ability to breathe my energy from my body is draining out. I have my body down kneeling before her.
My face is changing hue, getting paler and paler. I continue to hold my breath as long as possible.
She got closer to me and stomped and kick me non-stop.
“Who do you think you are? A hero? This is what you get from standing in my way. You must be thinking that you’re part of my circle because I become a little kind to you. I’ll repeat it, you’re nothing but a pet in my eyes. Pet that I could replace anytime. Stop getting on my way and just follow my orders. That’s all you have to do! That’s all you have to do!”
I’m naive looking up to her and giving her some respect is foolish. I thought she could be sweet and kind. I was dead wrong she don’t see me as a human. She is someone I won’t talk eye to eye.
This place is hell and this girl is a demon.
“Dying already… Well, you deserve it. You’re a criminal after all. Tossed down to our land because of your criminal action. You act tough right? Take this and this… And this!”
She crossed the line.
“Kisara enough.” Charlotte retorted.
“That’s uncalled for… You loved torturing other people right? Come and join me. We’ll kill this man and toss him on dump yard of scumbags.”
She can call me scumbag all her life.
Now it's very clear in my eyes. She is a monster pretending to be human.
Lucky for me, I have an amazing ability in holding my breath. Back in paradise when I was a kid. I got into lots of trouble and fought. Mostly I was defeated. Other kids always hold my head down to the river water trying to drown me.
The chain has limits in its tightness. I could breathe a little if I force to.
Continue to resist the pain in my neck.
I stood up and punch Kisara’s face. She is distracted by Charlotte at the moment arguing. She didn’t see me at all.
Her body fell with her butt. The chain disappeared and I made a heavy breath to restore the oxygen lost in my body.
“How dare you?”
I look down back at her with my sword unsheathed.
“Red… what are you?”
“Killing demonic monsters are exterminators job… I’m going to exterminate a demon in front of me. You’re just acting high-stacked because you have the leverage. How about fighting me in a fair fight? You’re the coward… I don’t have any gratitude left for you."
I said.
Kisara stood up biting her lips.
“You’re like him… After all, I have done… You’re ungrateful.”
“I didn’t ask anything for it.”
Flames formed into Kisara’s hand and shaped into a scythe. She charge forward and slashed down on me. I immediately intercepted her blade and rotated the side way and hacked down.
We both have the intention of killing each other.
“Enough… I said enough didn’t I?”
Before my blade hit Kisara’s side. “!?” (2x) Our body floated mid-air. Charlotte's eyes were glowing blue and anger was painted on her expression. The distance between me and Kisara got wide and released.
“What are we doing, Charlotte? Are you going in my way too?”
“At times like this, I want to just ignore you. I know you love beating up the weakling so much. I’m on Red’s side, you’ve gone too far. We’re here to finish the job not to kill another slave of yours.”
Charlotte said casually.
“Kill another slave… You’re killing slaves? I knew it, you’re a demon. This place is hell.”
“I won’t hide it… I’m killing slaves. Human and monsters. Once someone is labeled as a slave. I just lose my respect for them. Correction, I’m a human, not a demon.”
“We must not kill him, he proves great qualification in being a great slave. He could move while being strangled and even fight back with the intent to kill. He will show lots of results in the future.”
I’m just a tool…
Charlotte is also a demon. Everyone here is pretending to be human.
“That’s true… With all slaves we got he is the finest… But having a bad pet is bad.”
“Then, we just have to tame him properly. Until he bows down to us and looks on us like proper masters.”
Charlotte said and pointed her index finger at my body. My body got heavy and my muscles were restricted.
This sensation was like the first time I woke up.
“Air binding.”
Stone was tossed toward Kisara.
“Go away!”
“You’re still here…”
Kisara walked to the kid and kicked her away. The strength made her fly 3 meters away from the point she standing.
Kisara with my collar drag me inside the church to finish the job.
Eavesdropping in the conversation with some other person in the church. I find out that the demon kind was previously a human. For unknown reasons, the saint turned into a demon kind.
She didn’t harm anyone or kill anyone. The demon kind just does chores around the church like the saint used to do.
They said the demon kind still followed the pattern of schedule the saint used to do every day.
The near town got anxious about her existence and requested an extermination request.
The one girl attacking us earlier was the only company the saint have. For her, she is her motherly figure, and loves her very much.
While the demon-kind saint is waiting for the return o the little girl on the dinner table. Kisara decapitated her without a second thought.
“Have you seen that? Fear me, Red. That’s what’s going to happen if you further stand in my way.”
Kisara said to me.
Charlotte has undone the spell giving my body its freedom.
“Be a good boy and we’ll be good to you… We’ll forget today and move on tomorrow okay.”
The little girl earlier is in the kitchen hugging the head of the saint. Crying as I there is no tomorrow. Want to say something but how should I approach her.
I’m too inexperienced for this.
“I know… I’ll join her.”
The little girl said and grabbed the fork from the table. Stabbing er neck multiple times. Blood sprayed on the dinner table and eventually, she lost her breathing.
The slap on my face was the truth that I can’t do anything. I’m unable to do anything in this place. She’s in front of me and my hesitation leads to being unable to stop her...
“She killed herself. That's probably fine, she was an abandoned child.”
“No one in town like another mouth to feed. If she is a beauty like the saint I won’t mind feeding her.”
“The saint become a demon kind after she prayed many times every day. Seems like her god abandoned her.”
The town men said.
Minutes later, while waiting in front of the church. The armored truck arrived to get us back home.
Everything is turning very depressing. They are not even troubled after what happened in the church.
Right now, I can’t look to Kisara or Charlotte after I uncover what they truly are.
They are monsters.
In the cafeteria, sitting alone, in front of me was a glass of water and in my hand was a stale-looking bread. I was still gloomy about how the work turned out for today. Kisara and Charlotte are monsters who don’t even care about other people's feelings. Seeing other people in the cafeteria eating meat made me remember the bloody scene earlier. Blood splashed on the whole dinner table. The freshly cooked meal was stained with blood. My stomach is flipping upside down. I gulped my vomit before it came out and immediately took the glass of water and chugged it down. “Good evening, Red… Can I sit here?” “Sure…” After receiving my permission, she sat down, and on her plate was juicy red meat and red iced tea on the side. I don’t want to look pathetic in front of her. Still… The scene is hunting me. Unlike Choco’s death. I’ve seen death with my own hands. “You look gloomy. What happened? Did Kisara and Charlotte do something terrible to you?” “I’m just a slave to them. Kisara and
Today is the examination day for exterminators. Princess already told me that there is nothing to worry about because the exam is always simple. Mostly, the exam only consists of defeating one weak demon kind. Society needs more exterminators than ever because of the rapid growth of demon kind, for that reason. The exam is hard.Kisara, before I went, said that I had defeated a Cerberus already. Defeating a weak demon kind would be easy.Still, I don’t like being overly comfortable, especially in this world. I don’t even know what normal means in this place. Easy could be hard. The day before the exam, I did some sword swings and practiced for a bit. There is no one who could teach me swordmanship. Moreover, the people in the company are not talking to me. I have no choice but to improve myself alone.Mister Fluff gave me a ride toward the examination area.Glancing over Mister Fluff, I realized that he's so cute. He also reminded me of the teddy bear I was supposed to give to Choco o
The world got twisted. Twisting morality and turning the abnormal to normal. With her deceiving appearance, the little girl steadily looks into me. She regrew her severed arm back. The giant rabbit's head hit into her right arm and stretched forward. Its movement is so fast that dodging is impossible. I forcefully resisted, sticking my sword between its two giant teeth. Stopped its mouth from crunching me down. A gleam of blue orange shines right inside the rabbit's throat. The blue light got bigger and bigger. I leaped sideways, immediately sensing danger. Freezing cold wind blasted. Coating everything in ice on its range. The whole eighth floor got so cold for the moment. The coldness is going through my muscles. I have to endure this coldness and continue fighting to survive. “Mister, don’t make this so hard… There is no way you’ll win against us.” (Kukukuku… Rio is correct, no way you’ll win against us… I kind of regret not eating you immediately. Rio becomes interested in yo
The bright sunshine was already gleaming past the window. Turning my head into a digital clock hanging on the wall. I noticed that it was already 9:00 in the morning. I lay my head back on the soft pillow on my back with my eyes closed for a brief moment.Yesterday I nearly crossed the line of death. I thought I was a goner and everything would end at that moment. Or the possibility of me taking the offer is likely. However, I refused after seeing Kisara’s melancholic expression on my head. Her tears I want to reach out to her and wipe them out for her. Her words of “Don’t leave me alone…” that night hurt me.What’s wrong with me being sympathetic with a girl who nearly killed me and never respecting me as a human being?I opened my eyes again after reminiscing yesterday and trying to learn something about what happened. The concrete ceiling, a fan spinning and a light bulb. Surely, this is not the apartment. After the event, my body was so exhausted I lost unconsciously. I was brough
“Do you have anything you like? A girl? A hobby?”Asked the man named Luke.“I have none of that.”“How about Kisara or Charlotte? Who do you like?”“None.”They both have screws loose in their head.“Really? I thought you were dating both of them. For the first time, I saw them being interacted with a boy. Something I have never seen before. How about we have a duel? While we’re walking in this desert.”“How about shutting up for a second?”The sun is scourging hot moving too much will only increase my body temperature.“That’s completely rude of you. It's not like I wanted to come with you in this partner mission.” Luke shot back.Just like he said there was a reason why the two of us got partnered up on a mission.♦♦♦♦♦“Red this will be you’re official first mission. You must defeat the horde of mouse demons nesting near Area 10 shelter. They are small and only located in one cave this mission is a perfect start for you.”Touka handed me the paper containing the details of the mi
After seeing the huge fire in the village nearby, Luke and I immediately responded. Dashing with all of our strength. From the sight of it, the flames aren’t something from an accident. It was obvious that the one behind this fire had intended to erase the entire village. Desperate civilians running for their lives are gunned down by unknown people in red robes.I could say that we’re too late already. Seeing how many people laying on the ground lifeless.Terror first comes into my mind and is then replaced by fury.“Don’t be overcome by your emotions. There is still hope… There are still people needing our help.”Luke said. His movement speed increased. He kicks the ground, launching himself forward. Slash and hack down enemies on his way. Three red-robed men blocking his way were immediately defeated.I agree with his statement and followed his lead.A red-robbed man landed in front of me and with a spear he thrust forward. I used the sword to block his spear and immediately move to
After that, we move to rescue the village's remaining survivors. They are alive but their eyes are filled with despair, seeing their home village turned into oblivion before their eyes.Tears are shed and grieving for the people who lost their lives.Having plenty of time, Luke and I decided to help the people by giving the killed people proper burial. Digging through the soil, gently putting each body down. Two hours after burying the people, the survivors and us put our hands together to offer prayers.“Would you like to come with us?” Area 14 shelter is a safe place to live.”I said to the survivors. They turned their heads to each other in confusion. They looked at me with hopeful eyes.“Are we really allowed to come with you?”Asked a woman.“Sure--”“--No.”Luke cut in and pulled my shoulder away and took the lead.“It’s something we’re not in control of.”“What are you saying? These people need our help. It was better if they were living in protected areas like shelters.”“Shel
Another day began, which means another work day. It’s not like I hate working. Having a place where I belong is not so bad.I turned my head left to right and still noticed the glare of other staff. Maybe saying that this is the place where I belong is incorrect., Currently, I am sitting in the cafeteria together with my masters Kisara and Charlotte. I was happily having good food on my table. Instead of stale bread which I was planning to have. Kisara lent me some money that I can use until my paycheck arrives.“You better pay me the moment you receive your paycheck.”Kisara said after she gulped the food in her mouth. She turned her spoon back to the plate and had another scoop.“Sure… There is no place for me to run away.”“So if there is a place where you can run away. You’re not paying Kisara?” Charlotte cuts in.“No… I’m still going to pay Kisara, even if the world leads to destruction.”“That’s over dramatic. If the world is going to be destroyed. Money would be useless. You s
