11: Who is Telling the Truth?

Jackson narrowed his domineering gaze at the matriarch. "Are you sure of what you just said? That Luka is dead?"

"Of course!" Anna stuttered, scratching her gray hair. "Why would I lie about the death of my own child?"

"This means you agree that he was the one that killed my father?"

"What?" It took a while for Anna to understand what he just said. "Your father died in the fire, how's that my son's fault?"

"You just agreed that they both died in the same fire. According to the reports from witnesses, Luka was the one that stabbed Paul to death in that fire!" Jackson slammed the police reports in front of her.

"Since you just admitted the truth, I'm willing to re-open this case for investigation!"

The documents fell from Anna's trembling hands. "What do you mean?"

"Exactly what I said. Luka's body will be dug up and put on trial!"

"What? That's impossible!" A wave of fear rushed over her. "I just told you Luka didn't kill your father, in fact my son didn't die in that fire!"

"He's still alive, right?" Jackson's gaze never left her face.

"I...I didn't say that." She quickly said. "Though Luka survived that day, he was rushed to the hospital but he didn't make it." Anna feigned a pitiful expression.

Jackson already got the answer he needed.

"That'd be all for now." He said and got up.

"For now?" Anna asked. "When am I leaving this place?"

"Not yet."

"You must be kidding me, Jackson! You want to lock me up in here? What if my family starts panicking?"

Jackson stopped at the door. "They deserve to, as pay-back for all the evil you have done to me!"

"You bastard! Don't think because you're rich now, you're above us. You will forever be beneath the Wilsons!" Anna flew to her feet, banging the door. "We still have the power to crush you! Come back here, you good-for-nothing!"

Jackson bolted the door and left admist her yelling.

He returned to his room going through the documents again.

According to Kenneth and the police reports, Luka escaped from the fire and later had an heart attack.

But Anna insisted he died in the hospital that same day.

Now who was lying and telling the truth?

.

The next day at the office, Jackson had a meeting with his team members and decided on the company they would award the Axel deal.

While Isaac Moore was bragging that he would secure the deal for Miranda's company. Jackson had placed a call to Kenneth to place the deal on hold.

This way, he was able to select the company with the best potential to yield profits. Not just based on sentimental recommendations from Isaac.

A while later, he sent the final draft to the board members for their opinions. Once he had their approval, he would go ahead with the signing.

Jackson immediately continued the work he had began yesterday.

He audited the financial accounts of each department here in the Hutton Group. As the new President, he needed to know where the company currently stood.

So far, he had found embezzlement in a few departments, some fake purchase of raw materials for production, bribery accepted by board members.

Unlike what he expected, Xander was completely clean.

Jackson finished up and went on to begin the audit for the Hutton Factories.

He hadn't as much as began someone flung the door to his office open, storming in with rage.

"You bastard!"

Jackson looked up to see Isaac Moore breathing down on him with so much anger.

"To what do I owe this mannerless visit?" He relaxed back on his chair.

"Who gave you the right to change the beneficiary of the Axel deal?" Isaac banged the table. "Do you think you can go against me just because you're the new General Manager here? Weren't you a miser begging for crumbs a few days ago? How did you get here?"

Jackson kept mute as Isaac kept ranting and spilling saliva everywhere.

"I am the Manager of the Factory and only me have the right to select who will win the deal! How dare trash like you go against me?"

"I don't care how you got this position, and who is backing you. If don't award that contract to Miranda, I will make sure you regret with blood!" Isaac snarled and stormed out.

A muscle ticked in Jackson's jaw. He clenched his fists.

That bastard dare to threaten him even in his own company?

He opened his email to see that most of the board members were against his suggestion to award the contract to another company named Belare Corps.

Isaac had obviously swayed them to his side.

Jackson placed a call to his secretary. "Prepare an appointment with Exquisite Corps for me in 30 mins."

"Alright."

"One more thing. The next time any random person dares to barge into my office, consider yourself fired!"

.

Jackson arrived at the Exquisite Corps, making sure to keep his shades on.

"Good day, sir. Miss Wilson is currently unavailable, we'll be having the Vice President take over the appointment." her secretary announced.

Jackson couldn't be bothered.

He just needed to confirm a few things, seeing Miranda will complicate matters.

The secretary led him into the office and Jackson had to wait for 30 minutes before the VP showed up.

"You say you're the General Manager at Hutton Group?" Henry frowned, taking his seat opposite. "Mr Moore already promised to award us the contract. Did he send you?"

"I'm here on my own accord, to gauge if your company really meets the standards of the contract." Jackson slowly removed his shades.

"It's you!" Henry's face blanched with shock. "What're you doing here?"

They had met a few times when Jackson was still married to Miranda. And Jackson never liked him.

"One of the requirements of the contract is you have minimum of 5 fashion outlets in the Central City Square, and a well maintained warehouse. I'd like to start the inspection of your warehouse now." Jackson got up, ignoring his questions.

Henry only burst out laughing. "You must be kidding me! How did you become the GM at Hutton Group? Is this a joke?"

"If you refuse to oblige my request, I'll take it as a rejection of the contract."

"You've always been a creep! How dare you barge in here and order me around?" Henry hissed. "Just last week, you were a poor son-in-law who got dumped. Come speak to me when you've regained your dignity as a man!" With that, Henry stormed out of the office.

Jackson kept his blank expression, and stepped out.

He got hold of a staff who led him to the warehouse, thinking he was a client. Jackson got a few photos of the place and left.

He visited Belare Corps where he was welcomed warmly. In contrast to Miranda's warehouse which was in a state of colossal abandonment, this company had a brand new place, with several outlets in the Central City Square.

Jackson gathered all the evidence and sent it to the board members.

They had no choice than to pick the one with better prospective.

By the time Jackson returned to the company with Emile Ferny- the CEO of Belare Corps, the lawyers were already around.

They reviewed the contract terms and signed it.

"Thanks for everything, Miss Ferny." Jackson shook hands with her.

"It's a pleasure working with you, Mr Ryder."

Emile had barely left when Isaac barged in, breathing fire this time.

He was followed by his son, Nicholas, Asher and Emerald.

"Jackson Ryder, I warned you not to cross your boundaries!"
