2025-01-12 22:33:18Ezra found himself standing in a large clearing. There were several trees around with green grass swaying to the wind. Two hills stood on both sides of the clearing, blocking the sunlight. Before him stood a huge man holding a broadsword. This man was dressed in full body armor, a visor concealing his face.
Seeing all these made Ezra to be very shocked. Just now he had been training Mira, showing her some cool moves of his. But now he was somewhere he had never been before and a strange man was facing him.
Where the hell am I? Ezra thought within himself as he took a step backward, becoming extremely vigilant of his surroundings. For him to be suddenly transported here made him very terrified. He had never experienced something like this since he gained the Echelon system and it was shocking.
"You must be another Cultivator," the man dressed in full body armor said. "My name is Pharez. In my world, I am known as the Conqueror."
Pharez? Ezra thought within himself. I've never heard of someone like that in the entire Echelon nation! And what the hell are Cultivators? I mean, I know there are martial arts pros here who are cultivating but I've never heard of them being addressed as Cultivators!
"Don't worry, lad," the man known as Pharez said. "You're about to die by my hand and it's going to be very swift!"
As he said this, Pharez raised his broadsword while staring at Ezra through the eye holes in his visor. A terrifying aura immediately radiated off him, causing Ezra to move backward.
"You're at the Crimson Echelon?" Ezra asked, using the term which the Echelon system called the tier two of the Path to Liberation.
"Are those your last words?" Pharez asked. "If yes, then I'll be glad to reply you. I'm a tier two cultivator and I can tell you're one as well!"
A tier two cultivator as well? Ezra thought within himself. I would have been happy that I'm gonna face someone of the same tier as me but I'm not. This is not the world I know and I'm not sure about anything. I can't just fight this man when there are a lot of questions I need to ask him.
"I have another question," he immediately said. "Where am I? How did I get here?"
"Too many questions for a tier two cultivator like you!" Pharez said. "But since you're dying, I'm going to do you the favor of answering your questions."
“Why do you keep mentioning death casually?” Ezra asked inwardly but of course, he didn't say it out loud.
"We are in the Realm of Nirvana," Pharez said. "Down here other Cultivators are pitched against each other to fight and kill themselves. The winner gets rewards."
When Ezra heard this he narrowed his eyes. He then asked again, "Sorry to bother you with questions...But what are Cultivators?"
"Cultivators are individuals who possess systems," Pharez said. "They are birthed when a dying martial artist has lost all form of hope. I possess the Pavilion system."
So that's who Cultivators are...Ezra thought within himself. Why didn't the Echelon system inform me of this? Or has it begun scheming something very difficult for me? I've been having an easy life lately and was beginning to get suspicious...
"Another last question," Ezra said. "You mentioned you've been known as the Conqueror in your world...what does this actually mean? Are you talking about your nation or..."
"It seems you're more stupid than you look," Pharez said. "What has your system been teaching you? How to be an idiot?"
When Ezra heard this he immediately felt embarrassed and momentarily forgot that he was in a very dire situation. He almost buried his face out of shame.
"There are thousands of realms and in each realm, there is only one Cultivator!" Pharez said. "Once I kill you, there will be no Cultivator left in your realm!"
There are other realms? Ezra was very much shocked. It seemed today was reserved for shocking him. He had learnt and come across wild things but he had never heard something as wild as this. It was really wild that he wouldn't have believed it if not for him suddenly appearing in a strange place.
"So now that you've known everything you need to know," Pharez said, his eyes glowing red. "Prepare to die by my sword!"
Pharez's voice echoed across the valley, causing the trees to sway lightly. This made Ezra take a fighting stance as he prepared to activate his tier-two abilities. It was at that moment that the usual holographic interface appeared before him.
YOU HAVE BEEN TRANSPORTED TO THE REALM OF NIRVANA WHERE YOU FIGHT AND KILL OTHER CULTIVATORS LIKE YOURSELF!
MISSION UPDATE: KILL THIS CULTIVATOR IN TEN MINUTES!

FAILURE TO ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION WILL RESULT IN TWO RANDOM ABILITIES OF THE CRIMSON ECHELON BEING DEDUCTED!
What? Ezra screamed inwardly when he saw the notification. ‘I wasn't prepared to kill anybody! What the hell is going on?’
To be honest when he saw the notification from the Echelon system he was shocked beyond description. He hadn't expected that his transportation to the Realm of Nirvana was part of his mission which would involve him killing another Cultivator. He had never met this Cultivator so there was no bad blood between them. Hence, he felt that it was very wrong for him to kill the Cultivator.
He would have hesitated but the Echelon system had already stipulated the reward and punishment. If he were to fail then he would lose two powerful abilities and that wasn't what he wanted, not when he still had great heights to pursue. Also, Pharez was bent on killing him so he felt he shouldn't hold back no matter what. In this world, there was no morality to be upheld.
"Now die!" Pharez yelled as he suddenly swung his sword, causing a gust of Qi to burst out towards Ezra. And it was at this very moment that Ezra knew that he was in a very dire situation.
