2025-04-09 00:00:39After making sure her boss could stand on his own, Miriam led Mira and Ezra to the inn. Along the way, she kept on telling them about the village. And while doing this she seemed to stray closer to Ezra, glancing at him every now and then.
Mira noticed this and immediately became jealous, her face turning very red. She clenched her fists to control her emotions but she ultimately failed so she gave up. Ezra on the other hand noticed this and pretended not the care. After all what was his business if a waitress was attracted to him? What had that got to do with him?
"Are you guys a couple or something?" Miriam asked Ezra. "You two seem to be very close and loving."
"No, we're not couples," Ezra replied immediately. "We're just friends traveling together."
When Mira heard Ezra's response her face fell more than before. She felt hurt by what Ezra had just said because she saw him as more than a friend. She loved him deeply and thought he felt the same way but here he was telling a complete stranger that they were just friends. She would have already buried her head in a hole if it was possible for humans but she couldn't bring herself to do so. Instead, she endured and continued walking silently without saying anything.
"Huh?" Miriam smiled, obviously relieved that Ezra was not married to Mira and that they were just friends. But just to be sure she decided to ask Mira because men loved playing games like this.
"Is that true, Ma'am?" Miriam turned to ask Mira whose face was already red with intense jealousy.
"T-true that what?" Mira snapped out of her thoughts, her eyes quivering as she stared at Miriam unsteadily.
"Weren't you following?" Miriam smiled. "Is it true that the both of you aren't even in love?"
When Miriam asked this question Ezra almost choked on his own saliva while Mira's heart was broken to countless pieces. One felt shocked at the audacity while the other felt very hurt.
"W-well..." Mira recollected her thoughts as she polished her words so that she wouldn't say something offensive. "Just like he said, we're friends. But I think he made a mistake on his own part."
Mira was now very angry with Ezra for denying that they were a couple. She couldn't say it outrightly but she was very angry with him and didn't even want to stare at him.
Ezra noticed this and wanted to say something but kept shut. Miriam was still there and he didn't want to end up saying something that would make the situation more awkward. Women were very complicated creatures who needed all amount of intelligence to be able to understand.
"Hm?" Miriam raised her eyebrows. "And what relationship could that be?"
"Well, he's my martial arts teacher," Mira said. "We're not friends at all. I think he just said that to elevate my status."
When Ezra heard this he knew straight away that Mira was mad at him. This made him narrow his eyes slightly as he began wondering what he had done wrong apart from saying that they were not married. He had thought that he had said that to prevent the both of them from being awkward with each other again.
She had gotten angry the last time the Coachman mentioned that we were a couple, Ezra thought within himself. So why is she angry with me this time? I really don't understand what this woman wants at all...
"Wait a minute..." Miriam couldn't believe her ears. "So you're telling me that he's your martial arts teacher?"
It was really shocking for her because Mira was the one who had decapitated the gang members and not Ezra. All he had done was to eat while the young woman was fighting. And because of this, everyone started seeing him as a coward who hid behind a woman in action.
"Yes, he's the one who taught me how to fight," Mira said through clenched teeth. "Apart from that relationship, there is nothing more."
"Oh," Miriam said in skepticism as she observed Ezra. She couldn't believe that he was the one who trained Mira and felt that the young woman was joking in other to liven the atmosphere.
She wanted to say something else but they were already at the inn. It was the largest building in the village, standing in the village's outskirts. And it was also the only building made of bricks, making it look sturdy and formidable.
"We've already arrived at the inn," Miriam said with a warm smile. "Sad enough my journey ends here."
"Thank you for your assistance," Ezra said with a smile after seeing that Mira wasn't in the mood to talk. "Without you, we wouldn't have found this place."
"It's no problem," Miriam said as she turned around to leave. Then she stopped and winked at Ezra, "Just in case you need anything you can always come to the restaurant."
"Ugh..." Ezra stammered as he scratched the back of his head, stealing a glance at the raging Mira. "Sure."
"Goodbye then," Miriam said with a very warm smile before running off like a bubbly young woman she was.
When she was finally gone Ezra turned to Mira and asked, "Why are you so angry? You've been this way since I said we were not married."
Mira didn't even respond to him and walked into the inn, leaving him standing outside in surprise. This was because she had never behaved this way to him.
"But I thought I was saying the right thing..." Ezra muttered to himself, feeling a headache coming up. "Women are so complicated...They're even more complicated than my missions!"
With those words, he walked into the inn as well. Although there was some bad blood between them, he felt that he would be able to resolve it. It wouldn't remain that way for a long period of time.
The moment he entered into the inn, a man walked out of the shadows. He was dressed in a black robe and two katanas strapped to his back. His expression was very grim as his face pale as if he hadn't been under the sun for a very long period of time.
"It's time for you to pay for what you've done," the man bellowed in a thundering voice as shadows gradually concealed him till he vanished from sight.
