CHAPTER 8

Bryan walked into the house with pain, he couldn't believe what had just happened. It was as if all his efforts and careful planning of their anniversary was for nothing.

He didn't even know if he should regret going to her office to surprise her or not. The most annoying part of it was that his wife didn't even have the decency to apologise.

Bryan was wallowing in his painful thoughts when the door slammed open and Anita barged into the house, her face flushed with anger.

"How dare you come to my office without my permission Bryan!" She exclaimed What is wrong with you? "From now henceforth, don't ever step foot in my office without my notice again" She warned.

Bryan was shocked as Anita behaved like nothing happened, he had expected her to apologise to him, but here she was shouting at him about coming to her office, like the fact that she cheated didn't matter to her.

"You have some nerves Anita, You cheated on me, yet you still have the audacity

to shout at me for coming to surprise you on the day of our anniversary?" Bryan asked as his heart boiled.

"How could you be so heartless and wicked  Anita? You cheated on me on our anniversary day, after everything I have gone through and you couldn't even have the decency to apologise?"

"You are even"... Before Bryan could finish what he was saying when a sudden stinging pain exploded across his cheek.

"How dare you speak to my daughter that way?  How dare you call her a cheat? After all she had done for you, you choose to use abusive words on her?" Bryan's mother-in-law shouted at him her face red in anger.

Bryan was caught off guard by the slap, it took a moment to process what just happened. When he finally came back to his senses, he realised that she must have been in the room the whole time. He wondered why she was always monitoring him.

"What is going on here" Bryan's father-in-law should as everyone turned to look at him.

Bryan tried to explain to her but his mother-in-law cut him off.

"If she cheated, it's your fault for not being able to meet her needs" His mother-in-law snapped.

"You're a worthless excuse for a husband, and she had every right to look elsewhere for satisfaction."

"After everything my daughter has done for you, you have the nerves to complain when she strays?" What has she achieved since she got married to You? and you expect her to be contented?". " You're Pathetic.

"If you don't have anything important to say, you get out of here and stop making a fool of yourself." She shouted giving Bryan a disgusting look.

Bryan stood there in disbelief, unable to believe that his inlaws were blaming him for the situation. Even his father-in-law whom he had thought would scold his daughter remained silent. This was the highest form of insult he could ever get.

As he looked at Anita, he was struck by the smug expression on her face and he felt more pained.

Bryan's heart was heavy and he knew he had reached his breaking point. All the hurt, insults, humiliations, maltreatment and frustration that he had been holding came to a head and he realised that he couldn't continue like this. At this point, he needed his freedom. it was time to take a quit and move on. He needed to make a quick decision.

"I want a divorce, he shouted his voice firm and thick, the room went silent as all eyes turned to him.
