At first sight, she was startled to her bones, as she never expected him there at that time and never realized that Kelly had picked up the phone.
"So it's true. You have been cheating on me all this while." His cold words were an extension of the inner pains that flowed through his vines.
"And so what if I have been cheating on you? Or I cheated on you." She replied, trying not to look like a fool before him.
"Is that how you respond?" Christopher was finding it difficult to believe that it was the silver that he had known all his life.
"How long did you think that I was going to put up with your broke ass?
You should be grateful that I stuck with this broke ass of yours all through the years." A long hiss escaped from her mouth.
"I have found a man in Kelly."
"Kelly. This fool is known all over school. Are you going to allow him to deceive you so much?"
"Better to be with a deceiver with a secured future. Sometimes, I wonder how people like you still exist." Kelly spat on the floor, getting Christopher even more angry than he was already.
His hands were clenched with so much hate and anger as the school's billionaire pulled Silver over to himself by her waist and kissed her by her neck.
Adrenaline flooded through his bloodstream as he continued to stare at them in their little love play so bad that he could hardly control his rising anger. Pulling Kelly away from Silver, he punched him in the face.
"Go close to her again, and that's just going to be the tip of the iceberg." His eyes were flooded with so much fury.
Kelly's face lit up with anger as he spat the blood out of his mouth, and his hands were clenched with so much anger.
"How dare you punk let those filthy hands of yours on my face?" The words shot out of Kelly's mouth with so much anger.
"I am going to make sure that you pay for this so that the next time you see me, you will run away if you survive." He thundered, pricking out his cell phone from his pockets as he placed a call.
"I want you over at Keystone Hotel right away, and I don't want even a second delay." He fired.
Before Christopher could tell what was going on in his head, he was surrounded by a field of cars.
He could already feel his heart racing fast as the group of men came down from the car until there were up to a dozen of them.
His eyes skimmed around, only to notice that they were all with batons, their fierce faces ready to rip him apart into halves.
"That's him." Kelly pointed it out to him with his face twisted with so much disgust.
"Where is the fool?" He heard them chatting, and he was pointed at.
His face broke down into a cold sweat almost immediately, as he could tell clearly what was coming in for him next.
They advanced slowly towards him, carrying batons in their hands, while he moved backwards, slowly trying to make his way out of the place.
"What are you trying to do?" He heard one of them say.
"You are already surrounded. And there is certainly nowhere that you can go now." He heard one of them say that he was making a large lump go down his spine.
His head punctured around, and he was hit by the hard truth, making a lump go down his spine with his heart racing fast.
A baton fell towards his head, bringing him down to the group as a slight groan escaped from his mouth.
More kicks came afterwards as he yelled out in pain, but no one could dare come around to see what was going on.
They continued to hit and kick while he yelled at the top of his voice. Soon, his pain slightly filtered away from his body, pulling him slowly into unconsciousness, and he fainted.
"I think he is dead. We will have to leave this place right away." Their panicking voices were the last thing that he heard before he eventually passed out.
[Ding]
A loud vibration shattered in his head like a scream, snapping him swiftly into consciousness.
"What the heck was that?" He rose slowly from the bed as his head spun around, pairing into the strange environment where he found himself.
"Now, where am I?" He said it under his breath once again.
His eyes caught up with the hospital bed and the spot where he had been fed with a drip. Flashes of the past flashed into his mind as he thought about how he got there in the first place.
Memories of the sad past flashed through his head as he tried to push it aside, the hurt of the betrayal getting to him, but he could not.
He shook the thoughts away from his head almost immediately.
"She made her choice. There is no need to cling to someone who has never loved me. That would cease to be love and become an obsession."
[Host Allocated] Another loud ding sounded in his head.
"What the hell was that?" His head moved around in a motion, trying hard to figure out what was going on.

[Welcome to Your Fame Building System] The words crowded his mind, getting him into even more confusion than he already was.
The hands of Christopher were wrapped around his head, still trying to discover what was going on as his racing heart shot up even more. "What are you?" He finally inquired. Immediately he spat out the words from his mouth; he seemed to have opened a really strange portal before him. A system that only he could see appeared before him while he continued to stare at it, his face washed up with confusion. Words began to form on the system while his eyes were transfixed closely on it. [System adjustment to host] [Displaying the host's analysis] [Body Status: weak and malnourished] [Mind: Good] [Age: 24] [Will: Strong] [Intelligence: 5+] [Starting Balance: One million dollars but not activated yet] [Points: Zero] The words one million dollars that he just read on the system made his eyes shoot out of his eye socket with so much shock. "One million dollars?" He said it under his breath, still trying to figure things out. Having been poor, he has never thought about having su
Thoughts ran through his mind. He knew the possibilities that were going to befall him if he finally decided to perform the task. But the possibilities of not performing the task were totally out of his abilities."I think that I should do this." He said it under his breath with a frustrated sigh.[Ding: 55 minutes left for the task to be accomplished]"And I have to do it pretty fast." He reminded himself once again. With a dangerous dash, he walked away from the sidewalk towards the restaurant that was just overhead. one of the best that was available in the city. His eyes could already relate to the dignities that were floating all around in the place in their perfect clothes that glittered right in the sun, but he knew for sure that he wasn't there for them.He made his way to the reception, and when he finally got there, he noticed that he had spent thirty minutes of his total time already."I will have to get this over with as soon as possible." He whispered, already running out
Clara's feet crept away from the place with a dark smile hanging on her face as she went back to get the card terminal.Everyone caught their cells from their pockets to get a glimpse of the beautiful moments, which were going to be terrible for some people."Now that the card terminal is here, Which are you going to be paying with: cash, transfer, card, or QR code?"She snapped with so much impatience in her voice.[Ding..] The system rang in his head once again, making the pace of his racing heart go even faster than it was already.[The host has 60 seconds more to accomplish the task, or punishment will be rolled out accordingly.] It ended.Without a second thought, he reached out to his card, which had always been lying in his pockets all those years, and shoved it over to the receptionist."I just hope that you have gotten some money from this poor asshole." She said it under her breath, loud enough for him to hear what she just said.Clara took the card away from him, walking gr
Her eyes scanned through everyone in the hall who was ready to tear her apart, limb by limb, if she didn't do what they wanted her to.And with tears in her eyes, she walked up towards him, still staring at the vast crowd with shame. She went down on her knees, licking off the dirty particles from his shoes.Everyone chuckled while taking full records of the moments.Afterward, Christopher was transferred to the main dining section, after which he got out of his restaurant. After he was done with his meal, he was given a whip. His hands were still clutched to the phone that he had in his hands."I guess I will have to go to the bank." He said swiftly to himself. With every step that he took, he could feel his heart beating hard against his chest. Now, without his practical money and nothing to survive in school, he could only hope that all of that was true, or he would become one of those school dropouts."No, I can't allow that to happen." Christopher shook the thoughts away from his
He came down from the car with an air of grace, after which he went to a five-star hotel in the city to get a good night's rest.He could feel a completely different feeling rushing through his bloodstream. For the first time in his life, he had a steam bath, stayed for long in the shower, and slept on water foam.It was the best night's rest that he had ever gotten in his life, and the next morning, he woke up feeling energized. But he knew that he could not linger way too long on the bed. He stepped down swiftly, took his bath, and got back into his clothing. The practical project that he had always prepared for all his life was just today, and he could not afford to be late for it.He took an Uber for the first time in a long time, with his lab coat stalk in his right hand. When he got to the vast room, there were already a couple of students there, purchasing their practical plans. They were called plans, but there was mainly a distinction between the rich and the poor, as poorer
His steps were solid as he walked gradually towards the school board, and he could already feel his heart beating hard against his chest as though it was going to burst through. Soon, he got to the administrative building of the school, which was littered with a lot of cars. Sweat was already dripping down from the corner of his face. But there was one thing that he could not place his head around, and that was how he was going to get to the principal since that was his very first time coming to the administrative block. "I think that I should ask around." He spoke slowly to himself. His eyes spammed through the building, and he caught up with a security officer at the far end of the line. Walking slowly towards him, he stared at him. "And how may I help you?" His face twisted into a frown immediately after they landed on him, but he was not shaken even for a single moment. "I need to see the owner of the school. I know they are having a meeting now, and it's with respect to that
The eyes of everyone in the room twisted with scorn as he said the words. There were whispers in the hall, but even with their hateful glares, he wasn't moved.Meanwhile, the man who wanted to go by the school could not help but laugh out loud at what he just heard."You what paid off?" He laughed."What do you think all of us are here for? Some child's place?" He thundered with mockery while everyone burst out into laughter. But there was someone who was not laughing even a bit. Mr. Maxwell. If there was anything that he didn't want to do, it was to sell the company over."Can I trust him?" The mechanism of his mind waged war in his head, and he could rarely speak. His decision was what Christopher waited for as sweat dropped from his face, dripping down to the floor. With a sudden flash, he waved his hands, and all the chatter died down.He stood up from his seat and walked toward Christopher, staring him right in the eyes, and finally, he spoke."And who are you?" He inquired."I'm
The hall was as silent as a graveyard as everyone waited for him to spit out the words from his mouth. "I'm sure he is going to ask for something really valuable." A man in the hall found his way to say. Immediately after he said those words, they all shot cold stares in his direction, making him freeze. "So tell me, Christopher. What is it that you want? We are all waiting." Mr. Maxwell said it with a smile on his face. He could already feel his heart beating hard against his chest as he opened his mouth to speak. "Lately, there have been cases about a particular employee of the school taking pride in treating rich students well while the other students are treated with so much scorn." He replied. Mr. Maxwell's face blew hot red with so much fury as he sprang up from his seat, hitting his hands hard on the table. "Who is this person?" He inquired, his teeth grating with anger. If there was anything that he hated so much, it was the act of bullying coupled with the act of brib
The man—male—down the alley was Skull .After ten years, after all the executions and burnings, a Skull male was prowling toward her. Pure, solid Skull . There was no escaping him as he emerged from the shadows yards away. The vagrant in the alcove and the others along the alley fell so quiet Mia could again hear those bells ringing in the distant mountains.Tall, broad-shouldered, every inch of him seemingly corded with muscle, he was a male blooded with power. He paused in a dusty shaft of sunlight, his silver hair gleaming. As if his delicately pointed ears and slightly elongated canines weren’t enough to scare the living shit out of everyone in that alley, including the now-whimpering madwoman behind Mia , a wicked-looking tattoo was etched down the left side of his harsh face, the whorls of black ink stark against his sun-kissed skin. The Morse codes could easily have been decorative, but she still remembered enough of the Skull language to recognize them as words, even in such a
What she wants?Mia wasn’t naive. She knew very well that Christopher wouldn’t be able to get out of this mess without her. It seemed he had made the mistake of angering Arthur and at least, she was able to help him. Even if it meant giving up her own freedom. Why she was so nice to the same man who had abandoned her many times when she needed him but now she felt the urge to give herself up to help him… she didn’t know. But he was her brother and she felt somewhat responsible for him.“I… I want my brother safe,” she began to speak after a moment's pause. “I want him to leave alive. I want to see him leave alive and for your men to never go after him again.”“And in return, you’ll take my offer,” he mused. Mia nodded and the smirk on Arthur’s face widened.“That’s a deal,” he responded, his tone final. Mia felt a little bit of relief, even though her heart pounded in her chest. Then, his hand snaked up her arm and she gasped at how warm his palm was on her cool skin. Up her arm, to h
The next morning Mia and the Emissary set off to the King's palace. She had figured out a way to get back without any suspicion and while she had instructed the Emissary to help find Thorne, it was left to her to find a means to get to the location of the Shadow Star.Stepping into the boaders, where the gigantic palace had been built upon, all Mia needed to do was to act as though she had been hurt and with her skills in pretence, no one would question her.The moment she noticed the guards were coming close to her hideout, Mia stepped out, holding one part of her arm and hissing in pain. She looked up to see the guards coming towards her direction. The moment they laid eyes on her, one of them rushed over to help steady her body. Mia looked to see the others moving to her hideout to figure out how she had arrived. As they arrived at the entrance of the mansion, some of the soldiers also rushed over to help her and while they head into the luxurious living room, Mia over hears one o
Anna was taken out of the underground in silence to live in Christopher's mansion and resume the underground at night when she's well rested. Her room was beside Devon's room and well furnished, equally as his own, with luxurious closets large enough to open a boutique.Anna could not stop exclaiming and thought of exactly what was going on.It was the third day she was taking Christopher home after the night she passed out without seeing Christopher himself. She was left alone in the room, only to be taken care of by maids attending to her needs. She needs fresh air, at least, but at the same time, she is scared of breaking the rules. That morning, she had just showered up early and was creaming her body before Christopher walked into her half-nakedness.It was nothing to Christopher, as he has seen her that way several times, but the amusing part is the fact that Anna was covering her body and not throwing herself at him."Out of your clothes! Like right now, put it off." Christop
“How dare you?" Christopher roared like a lion as the champagne got emptied on his dress and flowed freely down his pants. Anna shook terribly, looking for napkins to clean Christopher's suits and shoes. She just emptied a glass of champagne."I'm terribly sorry! I wa---sss" Anna stuttered, trying to complete her words, when Christopher dragged her hair and pulled her up. "You are here to pay your brother's debt, but it's obvious you're not capable!. "Christopher said with a very intimidating voice, letting out goosebumps on Maria's neck."Please, I feel weak! '' Anna begged amidst her tears. She had never felt this way in her entire life, looking for means of survival. She felt her strength leaving her and let her body fall on Devon's hold.Everyone in the VIP room's eyes widened."This baby is indeed grounded!" One of them commented and signaled Christopher to take Anna's body away from him. Before they could move, Christopher gave them a shock. He carried Anna himself to his cl
Without doing extra training between the stacks, Mia found herself less exhausted when she left the library. Christopher had retrieved her from Windhaven after two and a half hours, and she’d already been so bored sitting in Rhys’s mother’s house that she’d nearly smiled to see him. But Christopher ’s face had been tight, his eyes cold and distant, and he’d barely spoken to her when Rhys had appeared. Rhys had barely spoken to her, either, but that was to be expected. It was better if they didn’t speak at all.Yet Christopher hadn’t said more than “I’ll see you later” before leaving again with Rhys after the High Lord had brought them back to the House of Wind, his face still tight and angry. With the extra energy buzzing through her that night, wondering incessantly why Christopher had been so upset, Mia didn’t feel like eating in her room and falling asleep. So she found herself in the doorway of the dining room.Christopher was lounging in his chair, a glass of wine in his hand, st
Hoping Virgil wouldn’t come shove him over the railing for disobeying her orders, he said, “All right. Throw the right hook.”Mia did so. And dropped her damn elbow.“Get back into position.” She did, and he asked, “May I?”Mia nodded, and kept perfectly still as he made minute adjustments to the angle of her arm. “Punch again. Slowly.”She heeded him, and his hand wrapped around her elbow as it began to dip. “See? Keep this up.” He maneuvered her arm back into starting position. “Don’t forget to flow the weight through your hips.” He took her arm, keeping a good foot of distance between their bodies, and moved it through the punch. “Like this.”“All right.” Mia reset herself, and he took a step away. Without his order, she did the punch again. Perfectly.Christopher whistled.“Do that with more force and you’ll shatter a male’s jaw,” he said with a crooked grin. “Give me a combination one-two, then four-five-three, then one-one-two.”Mia ’s brows bunched as she reset herself. Her fee
Five days later, Christopher sat before the desk of the library’s high priestess and watched her enchanted pen move. He’d met Virgil a few times over the centuries—found she had a dry, wicked sense of humor and a soothing presence. He’d made a point not to stare at her hands, or at the face he’d only seen once, when Mor had brought her in so long ago. It had been so battered and bloody it hadn’t looked like a face at all.He had no idea how it had healed beneath the hood. If Madja had been able to save it in a way she hadn’t been able to save Virgil ’s hands. He supposed it didn’t matter what she looked like, not when she had accomplished and built so much with Rhys and Mor within this library. A sanctuary for females who’d endured such unspeakable horrors that he was always happy to carry out justice on their behalf. His mother had needed a place like this. But Rhys had established it long after she’d left this world. He wondered if Azriel’s mother had ever considered coming here, or
Curled up in bed, a book propped on the thick down comforter, Mia was just getting to the sizzling first kiss in her latest novel when a knock thudded on her door. She slammed the book shut and sat up against the pillows. “Yes?”The handle turned, and there he was.Christopher still wore his leathers, the overlapping scales of them full of shadows that made him look like some great, writhing beast as he shut the door.He leaned against the carved oak, his wings rising high above his head like twin mountain peaks.“What?” She slid the book onto the nightstand, sitting up further. His eyes dipped to her sleeveless silk nightgown, then quickly returned to her face. “What?” she demanded again, angling her head. Her unbound hair slid over a shoulder, and she saw him mark that, too.His voice was rough as he said, “I’ve never seen you with your hair down.”She always wore it braided across her head or pinned up. She frowned at the locks that flowed to her waist, the gold amongst the brown g
