Christopher twisted on the bed, rays of the morning sunshine settling on his face, causing his eyes to quiver beneath his eyelids. Like a rushing wind, memories from the previous night invaded his thoughts, and his lips widened in a smile. With his large palm, he searched the bed, wanting to feel Mia’s skin under his skin yet again.

Last night had been hot, very intense, and the best thing he’d ever had, and he wasn’t about to let himself miss the chance of reliving the moment. He slid his hand lower, searching for Mia, his eyes still closed, and when he didn't see a trace of her, his eyes snapped open.

Mia. Where was she? Did she leave already?

Impossible. She couldn't. Not after the blissful moment they shared. Perhaps she was making something for breakfast in the kitchen.

“Sweet—” His words hung in the air. Did he suddenly become more attached to her because of the blissful moment they shared? He’d think about that later.

“Mia? Are you in there?” He asked, heading toward the k

Mia didn't spend as much time as she would have loved in the shower because it was less than an hour to nine, their appointment time. She didn't also have the luxury of admiring her room. As soon as she was dressed, she opened her laptop to send Christopher a copy of the proposal document. It was then that she saw an email from James saying that he had an emergency and would like a reschedule of their meeting. What the hell? James must be kidding! He had an emergency. Really? Did he realize how much it cost her to be in Bali? They literally flew down to Bali yesterday to be able to make it in time for the meeting. She also had to stay up to finish some paperwork last night because of the meeting, despite her exhaustion. She didn't have a proper bath even when she needed it badly, and all of a sudden, he wouldn't be able to make it for the meeting because of an emergency? Alright, someone needed to talk about how much of an asshole James was, because why in the world would he do t

Mia spent exactly two hours in the bathroom and immediately prepared for a swim. It was a good thing she added a swimming trunk and some bikinis to the list of things she got at the supermarket. But for the impromptu nature of their trip, she wouldn't have bought the swimming trunk. Again, she had something else to thank Christopherfor. It had been years since she last had a swim, precisely five years. Aiden was the last person she went on a swim with. It was during one of their dates. Aiden. Her brows furrowed at the sudden realization that she hadn't thought of him in a while. Just as Tracy and her mom said, focusing on work was really working like magic. She was too preoccupied to even think of him or the misery he caused her, and much to her surprise, she wasn't just focusing on work, she was moving on. Speaking of Tracy, she hadn't spoken to her since she got to Bali. Her mom also. Neither of them knew she was here. She might as well give them a call now that she remembered.

“Welcome home, darling,” Mrs. Bella says as she welcomes Mia in. “Go in, take a shower, and come out and have a nicely cooked meal I made myself,” she said, smiling.“Thank you, grandma; I’ve been waiting for a long time for that.” She says this, smiling.“But before that, please let me introduce my family to you. This is Lucas, Emma, and my stepmother, and this is Mrs. Bella, my mother-in-law,” Mia says."Welcome, please come in and have a seat. I’ve always wanted to meet you,” she says, inviting them in."Richard, please take Mia to her room and help her get dressed up so we can all have dinner together and get to know one another.” Mrs. Bella says:.“Thank you for everything,” Mia says, hugging Mrs. Bella."Common, let’s go,” Christopher says as he leads her to the room. “You have to freshen up, take your drugs, and look beautiful for the dinner.” Richard continues.Mia smiles as they both walk to the room, without observing the fact that Emma has been looking at them disdainfully

“Where are we going? What of grandma? What do we do about her? Is there anywhere we can run to that he won’t find us?” Mia asks, looking desperate.“I don’t know, but I think I know what to do now that you mention it. I’ll confront him; it’s better to confront him than to keep running all my life. I know I didn’t do right by him, but I’m tired of being pestered and running for my life.” Christopher says,“What are you saying if he kills you? I still don’t get it. What exactly did you take away from him?” Mia asks,“Let me tell you the full story: five years ago, Jack and I were working on a project that involved five million dollars. It was supposed to be our breakthrough project that would bring the big money we’ve always been looking for. But we were short of funds to finance it, and we had to take drastic measures. There was this man, Mr. Roosevelt. He was the boss of a multimillionaire company that made billions in revenue. He had built up a stack of gold as a backup for his fina

Have you no respect?” “You could’ve been put behind bars if you you had spilled as little as a drop of that drink on his suit” Matilda said calmly with a very serious look on her face“By the way that suit you just called fake, is worth all the cars in your Father’s garage combined”“How da…Do not interfere!” Elizabeth was about to speak before she was aburptly interrupted by Matilda.Suddenly Richard burst out into an uncontrollably loud laughter as everyone else followed suit.He continued to laugh out loud for a while, holding his belly until the effect of Matilda’s words slowly died down.“Being the heir to the janitor's closet is certainly not a position you should be flaunting around in such vicinity” he said sarcastically.“And just who do you think you are to have spoken to me in that manner, do you know who I am?” Richard asked,

He let it ring the first time thinking that the caller might have made a mistake and would not resend the call. After a short while, it rang again and this time he picked it up furiously wondering who it might have been that was bent on disturbing his sleep that very early in the morning. As soon as he got a hold of his phone, he hissed and rolled his eyes upon realizing that it was just his alarm.A few days before Anna rescued him from being crippled by Richard’s bodyguards, his routine for the past few years had required him to wake up very early in the mornings for deliveries. He took up the mid-morning shift and the day shift at the delivery services due to the fact that he was desperate to make ends meet.He dismissed the alarm and sat up, realizing that he couldn't fall asleep anymore.“Man, this delivery job has really messed up my sleeping routine” He thought to himself as he scratched the back of his head, yawning with his mouth wide open. Now that he was fully awake and he

Ana stared at Mia for a second, trying to process what her best friend had just said about the Maximus man...."You know saying such a thing without evidence against a man of such nature is very dangerous right?" She lowered her voice, trying to allow no one else here their conversation."Look, the rumours in this city are always true and if what they say about Maximus being a rapist is real, then I think I would be justified." Mia was about to say something, but a sudden uproar behind them had cut her shut. They both watched as a man engaged his partner in a heated argument, before eventually pouring a milkshake on his head. What she wants?Mia wasn’t naive. She knew very well that Christopher wouldn’t be able to get out of this mess without her. It seemed he had made the mistake of angering Arthur and at least, she was able to help him. Even if it meant giving up her own freedom. Why she was so nice to the same man who had abandoned her many times when she needed him but now she felt the urge to give herself up to help him… she didn’t know. But he was her brother and she felt somewhat responsible for him.“I… I want my brother safe,” she began to speak after a moment's pause. “I want him to leave alive. I want to see him leave alive and for your men to never go after him again.”“And in return, you’ll take my offer,” he mused. Mia nodded and the smirk on Arthur’s face widened.“That’s a deal,” he responded, his tone final. Mia felt a little bit of relief, even though her heart pounded in her chest. Then, his hand snaked up her arm and she gasped at how warm his palm was on her cool skin. Up her arm, to h

The next morning Mia and the Emissary set off to the King's palace. She had figured out a way to get back without any suspicion and while she had instructed the Emissary to help find Thorne, it was left to her to find a means to get to the location of the Shadow Star.Stepping into the boaders, where the gigantic palace had been built upon, all Mia needed to do was to act as though she had been hurt and with her skills in pretence, no one would question her.The moment she noticed the guards were coming close to her hideout, Mia stepped out, holding one part of her arm and hissing in pain. She looked up to see the guards coming towards her direction. The moment they laid eyes on her, one of them rushed over to help steady her body. Mia looked to see the others moving to her hideout to figure out how she had arrived. As they arrived at the entrance of the mansion, some of the soldiers also rushed over to help her and while they head into the luxurious living room, Mia over hears one o

Anna was taken out of the underground in silence to live in Christopher's mansion and resume the underground at night when she's well rested. Her room was beside Devon's room and well furnished, equally as his own, with luxurious closets large enough to open a boutique.Anna could not stop exclaiming and thought of exactly what was going on.It was the third day she was taking Christopher home after the night she passed out without seeing Christopher himself. She was left alone in the room, only to be taken care of by maids attending to her needs. She needs fresh air, at least, but at the same time, she is scared of breaking the rules. That morning, she had just showered up early and was creaming her body before Christopher walked into her half-nakedness.It was nothing to Christopher, as he has seen her that way several times, but the amusing part is the fact that Anna was covering her body and not throwing herself at him."Out of your clothes! Like right now, put it off." Christop

  • Chapter 156

Without doing extra training between the stacks, Mia found herself less exhausted when she left the library. Christopher had retrieved her from Windhaven after two and a half hours, and she’d already been so bored sitting in Rhys’s mother’s house that she’d nearly smiled to see him. But Christopher ’s face had been tight, his eyes cold and distant, and he’d barely spoken to her when Rhys had appeared. Rhys had barely spoken to her, either, but that was to be expected. It was better if they didn’t speak at all.Yet Christopher hadn’t said more than “I’ll see you later” before leaving again with Rhys after the High Lord had brought them back to the House of Wind, his face still tight and angry. With the extra energy buzzing through her that night, wondering incessantly why Christopher had been so upset, Mia didn’t feel like eating in her room and falling asleep. So she found herself in the doorway of the dining room.Christopher was lounging in his chair, a glass of wine in his hand, st

Hoping Virgil wouldn’t come shove him over the railing for disobeying her orders, he said, “All right. Throw the right hook.”Mia did so. And dropped her damn elbow.“Get back into position.” She did, and he asked, “May I?”Mia nodded, and kept perfectly still as he made minute adjustments to the angle of her arm. “Punch again. Slowly.”She heeded him, and his hand wrapped around her elbow as it began to dip. “See? Keep this up.” He maneuvered her arm back into starting position. “Don’t forget to flow the weight through your hips.” He took her arm, keeping a good foot of distance between their bodies, and moved it through the punch. “Like this.”“All right.” Mia reset herself, and he took a step away. Without his order, she did the punch again. Perfectly.Christopher whistled.“Do that with more force and you’ll shatter a male’s jaw,” he said with a crooked grin. “Give me a combination one-two, then four-five-three, then one-one-two.”Mia ’s brows bunched as she reset herself. • Chapter 154

Five days later, Christopher sat before the desk of the library’s high priestess and watched her enchanted pen move. He’d met Virgil a few times over the centuries—found she had a dry, wicked sense of humor and a soothing presence. He’d made a point not to stare at her hands, or at the face he’d only seen once, when Mor had brought her in so long ago. It had been so battered and bloody it hadn’t looked like a face at all.He had no idea how it had healed beneath the hood. If Madja had been able to save it in a way she hadn’t been able to save Virgil ’s hands. He supposed it didn’t matter what she looked like, not when she had accomplished and built so much with Rhys and Mor within this library. A sanctuary for females who’d endured such unspeakable horrors that he was always happy to carry out justice on their behalf. His mother had needed a place like this. But Rhys had established it long after she’d left this world. He wondered if Azriel’s mother had ever considered coming here, or

His eyes dipped to her sleeveless silk nightgown, then quickly returned to her face. “What?” she demanded again, angling her head. Her unbound hair slid over a shoulder, and she saw him mark that, too.His voice was rough as he said, “I’ve never seen you with your hair down.”She always wore it braided across her head or pinned up. She frowned at the locks that flowed to her waist, the gold amongst the brown g
