“Damn it, where the hell is she?” Hunter mumbled as he impatiently stomped his feet on the vitrified tiles; Hunter have been standing and waiting here for no less than Six hours; Olivia, his fiancé, usually got off to work around five o’clock.

He fished his phone and composed a text again. Today is their anniversary; Hunter looked at his wristwatch, it was past eleven o’clock, still, no sign of Olivia. Hunter wasn’t mad,  coming late, but the fact that he can’t reach her makes him anxious.

Olivia is an epitome of beauty, and danger is always one step ahead of her; and he is trying to avoid it by occasionally waiting for her in front of their house, plus the fact that this neighborhood is not safe anymore these days, The man don’t want to use his power, and make her feel like she’s a criminal. He wants to try it, as normal as possible.

He tried hitting her phone again; Still, no answer.

“This won’t do; I’ll go and fetch her myself,” Hunter immediately grabbed his jacket and rushed outside the house.

Olivia’s office was four blocks from their house; He came out of the cab and went straight to the building’s entrance. The lights were all down, he saw three offices with lights on, but that wasn’t Olivia’s office.

“Where is she?” Hunter mumbled to himself, still looking at the entrance; he cautiously walked until he reached the revolving entrance door; he hadn’t been able to walk at least ten steps from the entrance when he noticed a security guard, holding a flasher.

The guard instantly notices his presence and puts his flasher straight on Hunter’s face; he cover his eyes with his hand.

“Who are you? What are you doing here? The building was all close; why are you here, inside?” he questioned Hunter like he is some kind of a criminal; well, He is usually on his suit, before he met Olivia.

“I’m here to see Olivia Pritt,” He answered, still covering his eyes, “Could you please put away your flasher,” He tried to be neutral as possible.

“There’s no one else here,” Hunter saw doubt flash through the guard’s eyes while scanning him from head to foot; that’s when he remembered that he looked like a by-passer with his black ragged jeans, white plain body-hugging shirt, and white sneakers, yeah, who would believe me? He thought.

“I’m Olivia’s fiancé,” He finally said; he know Olivia would go ballistic if she knew that Hunter told someone that they were engaged; it’s not an open and suitable topic for them; she’s always been reluctant to announce their engagement, he is aware that she’s not happy with the current setup.

Hunter saw how the guard’s brow shot up and suspiciously looked at him, with a smug smile on his face, “Come on, no one is around here, and every single soul knew that Ms. Olivia was single, you must have been dreaming, dude. Step out, while I’m asking nicely,” the guard said, with his threatening voice.

That expression got on Hunter’s nerves.

The guard surveyed his cheap-looking clothes, “I mean, don’t get me wrong, even if Ms. Olivia is probably engaged, she will surely pick a guy near her taste and status, and you’re far from society’s expectation,”

Hunter chose not to get swayed by that profanity, and stick with the reason, why he is here right now, “Take me to Olivia’s office; I need to see her right now!” his menancing voice roared.

Hunter is holding his breath and fist as tight as possible.

“No one is here; get out before I call a back-up, just to drag you out,” but his ears are intended to hear Olivia’s location, not his nonsense words,

He walked past the guard, but he abruptly stopped Hunter by grabbing his arm tightly and blocked him through his chest, Hunter felt him, grabbed a handful of his shirt.

“Get out of here!” he shouted straight into his face, he sighed hard, stepped backward, and fished his phone, Hunter tried to call Olivia for the nth time, the call ended, she wasn’t answering.

The guard’s smirk didn’t escape from Hunter’s sight, “You must be out of your mind, nice try, but better luck next time,”

“Is Olivia here?!” Hunter’s voice roared echoed through the hallway, that wiped the smirk to the guards face, fear strike his eyes, “Bring me to her, before I snip out your head to your body, I’m losing my patience now,” He is aware that his voice is in rage, his eyes were burning and his fist is ready to land anytime.

The guard didn’t speak for a minute, before he heard him clearing his throat, and avoided having an eye contact with me, “S-she’s not here, she l-left around five o-clock,” The guard felt like he was talking with someone who has more authority and power, more than the CEO that they have, this was the first time he actually come face to face to a one, if he hadn’t just wearing a crappy clothes, he must have think that he was a powerful person.

Hunter wasn’t bothered by his stuttering voice, upon hearing that confirmation, he silently turned, and leave, his heart sank, Olivia knew today is their anniversary, he mentioned it earlier this morning to her, in case it slips to her mind, because of busy days.

Hunter was still holding his phone, contemplating, whether to call her family or the police first. He can’t just let any—his phone rang, and his heart skipped a beat, when he saw Olivia’s name on the caller log, his lips instantly curled up, forming a soft smile, “Oli—”

“Where the hell are you?! Do you even know what time is it now? Are you making me a fucking stupid?!”

Hunter’s forehead frown when he heard her, shouting, mad and tired, and she’s asking where he is and what time is it, like she wasn’t convey with his feelings. Olivia was drunk calling.

“Oli, what are you talking about? You weren’t updating me, you weren’t answering my calls,” Hunter tried to explain his side to the drunken Olivia.

“What the hell?” she spat, “Are you making me a liar? Why would I say that I called you, whe I don’t? I’ve been calling that since five o’clock!”

He sighed, with both relief and frustration, “Where are you? I’ll come and get you,”

“What, do you even have a car? Grandpa made a reservation for us in the Morteil Hotel; where were you, dimwit? Get your ass off here!”

The days were getting shorter, and the nights cool and still. Lorelei and Hunter had settled into a rhythm, their days filled with work on the community projects, quiet evenings together, and the deep connection that had only grown stronger since their wedding. The village was thriving under Lorelei’s leadership, and Hunter was proud of everything they had accomplished together, but there was something else stirring within her that neither of them had expected—something they didn’t fully understand yet.It began one quiet evening, a few weeks after their wedding, when Lorelei had been feeling unusually tired. She had chalked it up to the long hours spent organizing projects, coordinating with builders for the school, and overseeing the development of the medical clinic. She’d been working relentlessly, pouring every ounce of her energy into the

The morning of the wedding arrived, bathed in golden light, as if the universe itself was eager to celebrate the union of two souls destined to build a future together. The village, though small, was bustling with excitement.Every corner was adorned with vibrant flowers, and colorful ribbons hung from the trees, swaying gently in the early breeze. A long wooden arch, draped in ivy and blooms, stood proudly at the edge of the riverbank near Lorelei’s grandmother’s house, the place where so much of their love had blossomed. Today, the village would witness the beginning of a new chapter for two of its own—the woman who had long been the heart of the community and the man who had, against all odds, found his place among them. The Brotherhood had arrived earlier in the week, their presence a stark reminder of Hunter’s past, but it was a past he had long made peace with. Casper, Ezekiel, Alejandro, and Alamid were all in attendance, the familiar faces of his old comrades offering Hunter a

Together, they had started something new—a future they both wanted to build from the ground up.Lorelei, ever the visionary, had begun taking charge of organizing community projects. The first priority was to address the village’s need for more accessible education and healthcare. The old schoolhouse was small and outdated, and the nearest clinic was miles away, an inconvenient distance for many of the elderly and young children. Lorelei, with her innate sense of purpose, immediately set her sights on transforming these challenges into opportunities for the village to thrive.Hunter supported her whole

Not the former soldier, not the Brotherhood leader—just a man who had found solace in the quiet beauty of this place, and in the woman standing beside him.Lorelei was standing by the riverbank, her silhouette outlined by the fading light. Casper and Alamid stood in front of a high-rise building that loomed over the city, the glass windows reflecting the waning sunlight. The news came early in the morning, just as the first light of dawn began to filter through the curtains. Lorelei sat up in bed, staring at her phone as the message from the local hospital flashed on the screen. She read it twice, unwilling to believe the words that had appeared in front of her.Her grandmother, Agatha, had passed away.It felt like a punch to the gut. Agatha had been a pillar in Lorelei’s life, a steady force who had shaped her into the woman she was today. Despite her age, Agatha had always carried herself with quiet strength, leading their community with a steady hand and a sharp mind. She had been more than a grandmother to Lorelei; she had been a mentor, a confidante, and a guiding light.Hunter, who had been up for an early jog, entered the room moments later. He froze when he saw the look on Lorelei’s face, knowing something was wrong before she even spoke.“What happened?” he asked, his voice soft but filled with concern.Lorelei’s voice cracked as she read th
