Chapter 16

chewed on the berries gently. Kyar whirled her head towards me, slowly, she smirked and turned forward. She shrugged her shoulder and adjusted the stubborn shifting belt, which held her swords to her body.

We walked forward and as Kyar stepped forward, three paces from.me, she disappeared into the waves, which drew her shape, as she entered into the invisible portal. Quickly after I saw what happened, I followed as her left leg got sucked into the portal. I didn't catch up, but had it in mind, to enter into in the same portal, which was gone. I waved my and, beating the air, nothing happened.

I stood for a while. As some purplish, mixed with reddish light, started glowing, sparkling slowly. Tearing apart, and opening a new reality. Maybe from my deepest worry, the another new reality was a real to eye display. I forgot the illusion part and focused on what I shouldn't have tried.

There were many people, probably in New York, USA, the unvarying earth. I startled, sniffed and my form changed, to a human form. The furs, slipped in and the claws drew in, under my fingers and the toes. The broken branches were all gone in few minutes, after the disappearing of Kyar. I forgot everything immediately my family appeared, it seemed like I was invisible to me. I was coming out of the mall, happily with my family. The real me, staring at the family, I was devastated, and didn't want to bring up confusion in the midst of the family. It was a sweet memorable horror.

I hid behind the corner of a tall glass, of a boutique. I held the warm glass, and it all was real, an illusion should feel less. I waited and watched us entered the car. The real me came out from the secret and watched my happy self, with my family from pass.

It was a day I remembered, just a year back. After I won the 3rd championship medal, in Atlanta. We used to celebrate together after every win, that's why I should have stayed home, escaped death and spend my happy life with my family.

In a millisecond, everything was cleared and I'm in our room, the darkness took over from the day, the birds danger from the nearby trees, that was just in our garden, a stone throw from our window, the dogs barking were inaudibly sounding. Still in the unvarying earth, with my former life, a life with my family, a happy living.

I watched how I curled my arms around my kids with a goodnight kiss, they walked out of my matrimonial room to theirs, I walked behind them, as they moved, they didn't see me, but I saw them and could feel them as well, the walls were real, everything else was real and touchable. They felt someone behind them but snubbed the feeling after some persistent look around. Cylas waved Roseth bye, as she entered into her room, I followed Cylas as he entered, leaving his door unlocked. He went to his bed, knelt beside it to do his night prayers. Bitter tears streamed down my cheeks, every part of my eyeballs were salty watered, my heart didn't stop beating fast and my skin was dried, looked pale, my face became wrinkled.

"Dear God, I'm talking to you again tonight, my parents deserve happiness, joy, and long life. You should give it to them, don't let me mourn over them, and vice versa, don't allow any evil, befall my kid sister, strengthen us, to prevail over death, and give my dad more championship medal to win. Amen" Cylas prayed, closing his eyes with his palms together. He went back to lock the door after his prayer, as I whimpered, he sat beside me. "Dad, don't hesitate to win more. For us, me, my sis, and your wife, because you're always a champion, and you just always be." Still not seeing me, he said and laid on his bed.

The illusions went away, Kyar ran to me from behind me and touched touched my shoulder, she pushed me softly and cried my name out. I was just there, sitting on a branch, that was illusioned as a bed stand, that I sat on, in Cylas bedroom. All part of my face was wet, with bitter tears and sweat. I didn't utter an alphabet, just whimpering and sobbing. I missed my family too much, that has been the thing, that has always been in my heart. Going back to my former life, as a husband, and I wished it would be possible.

"Those are not real, they're just..."

"Real." I attacked Kyar, without changing position, my head didn't move a bit, my hands and body were shaking. I sat, reminiscing about the vision and the forgotten memories. I never saw it, that my kids prayed and made me a winner.

"Krrr, krrr, krrr, krrr" a sound crept up from the bush, twigs broke, trees that were nearby, started to give sounds of scrubbing, although the sound was afar, but the creaking and breaking were near. I never flinched, still dipped in my biggest sorrow, and misery, Kyar shook me out of my depression, it never worked, I was still drowned in my darkest moments. The sound came near, and the cracking went back, the illusion was one to be careful with.

"Fuck yourself!" Kyar said and gently moved away from me, heading to a direction, where the sound never came out from. The sound comti coming closer and farther, also the cracks and scrubbing.

Remembering the last words from the illusion, I gathered together and joined Kyar. I paused and waited, I smelled a strange odour from.where the sound was not coming from. Like a rotten onion, and garlic. I touched her to stop. "Hey, this place is filled with illusions right?" I asked her, talking in a very low sound.

"Yes" Kyar replied.

"What if, we're running into them... And not walking away from them?" I asked, intelligently. She took her little time to think about it. She brought out a bow and pulled the string very tight, with no seen arrow, she released it and just a few steps from us, the arrow went into the mouth of a Bunyip, then the rest revealed themselves. Even at the point of death, I still remembered. "Dad, don't hesitate to win more. For us, me, my sis, and your wife, because you're always a champion, and you just always be." It struck me and I brought out the claws. Longer, back against back with Kyar, waited for the remaining four hideous, beasts to come around.
