When Maxine and Harold finally arrived home, it was 10 PM. The company had let them go since the lawyer arrived at 9 PM. The discussion hadn’t been long, so they were able to return an hour later.

Both wore frowns; it had been a long day. Not only had they lost face at the company in front of a rival, but they were also unable to meet with Tedmond’s baby mama.

Worse, they weren’t even sure if they could secure the contract anymore.

Entering the Griffin mansion, Harold and Maxine were greeted by the sight of Lisa, Max, and Evelyn waiting in the living room.

Without explaining, Maxine headed straight upstairs, her gaze downcast. “I’m going to bed. The maid can leave my food at the door. No one should bother me,” she said curtly.

Max and Evelyn exchanged confused looks as she left.

“What’s wrong with her?” Evelyn asked Harold. “She didn’t look like that when you left. Did something happen at the company?”

Harold sank into a seat beside them and recounted everything that had transpired. B

“I can’t believe this happened in just a few hours!” Max yelled, grinning from ear to ear as he looked at his phone. He was on Kenstagram, scrolling through the flood of comments. He hadn’t posted the rumor himself, so it would be hard for anyone to trace it back to him.“I had no idea it would blow up that fast, too,” Evelyn said, her eyes gleaming with excitement. “As long as everyone isn’t on their side, we will get that contract.”They were in Max's bedroom, sitting in front of his monitor. Lisa was lying on the bed.“You did a great job, Max,” Harold said.Max shook his head. “Lisa was the one who edited the images. I had no idea she was that talented until she asked me to do it.”Evelyn grinned and placed her hand on Max’s shoulder. “That's great. At least she’s not useless in situations like this. You did a great job marrying her.”Harold nodded in agreement. “That’s right. Now that the rumors have spread, we need to go pay the compensation money to the company.”Evelyn sighed.

Thomas nodded. “Right!”Seeing that they would be busy, Bianca sighed. “Could you send me to Persis’ place?” she asked.“Okay,” Tedmond agreed.*****“Have you found a lead yet?” Duncan asked his secretary. The secretary shook his head. “Not yet. Were you able to contact Xinca too?”Duncan shook his head. “I sent a staff member to meet with them, but he hasn’t arrived yet. If he had met with them, he would have contacted me.”The secretary sighed. “What are we going to do now that the source of the rumor hasn’t been found?”“We’ll just have to make sure to convince Xinca that it was all a rumor, and at the same time, find the source. All that matters first is Xinca, and then we’ll have to settle the rumors.”“Do you think it was made up by someone? We didn’t offend anyone, did we?”Duncan shook his head, placing his hand on the table. “We didn’t. GNN never offends anyone.”“Then who would spread such nasty rumors about us?”Duncan thought about it, and then it hit him. His eyes widene

“Can I get her name?” Harold questioned. “She is the same age as my granddaughter; they could be friends.”Hearing that, Tedmond frowned. The two girls were the same person, and he was trying to get them to be friends with each other. That was the worst thing he had heard all day.“Don’t cross the boundaries, Mr. Griffin,” Tedmond replied, peering at Harold. “Why are you here?”Harold wasn’t shocked by Tedmond’s words—he had been expecting it. After all, he hadn’t paid the compensation or regained trust between them, but that didn’t bother him much. GNN was in crisis, and Griffin’s Cooperation would be the one to be picked no matter what.“I’m here to pay the compensation fee and apologize again for my family’s behavior,” Harold answered.“I thought I told Ms. Fincall to give you the account number to which the money should be transferred. Did you lose it?”Harold flinched. Was it that obvious he had thrown the account number away to have an excuse to meet the president in person?“I

The question was one that Duncan had been waiting for. He had thought about what to do and had come across an idea that might help him. He wasn’t sure if it would work, but he knew he had to try.“I would like you to give us the background research documents you have about us,” Duncan said.Silence ensued between them. Tedmond’s gaze fixed on Duncan, who met his eyes without blinking. They stared at each other for a long time. Tedmond hadn’t expected Duncan to ask for background research about his own company.“Why would you need that?” Tedmond questioned. “Do you think it will help clear your name?”Duncan didn’t elaborate. “I’m not going to mention your name or the name of the company when I release the file. I just want to release the details of my company so people can see and judge for themselves.”“Who would release it?” Tedmond pressed, his curiosity rising. “If you release it yourself, it will look fake, like you did it intentionally to clear your name.”“I would have one of t

Hearing his father’s words, Tedmond's smile dissipated, but then the grin returned to his face. “What did you say?”Guessing their father’s intentions, the others joined in. Harold had just gotten an idea: if he could convince Tedmond to make his baby mama invest in their struggling company for a fake project, they could get the hundred million back.“There’s a project going on, and we need investors to fund it,” Max added, his face serious. “It’s a big project, and the investment required will be substantial.”“That’s right. Your baby mama will be part of the family too. It would be great for her to help us,” Maxine continued.Evelyn even went as far as holding Tedmond’s hand—something she had only done when she was about to hit him as a child.“You’ll have the right to return to the family as long as you agree to help us with the investment,” Evelyn muttered. “You’re my son, after all, and it makes me sad that you were kicked out.”Tedmond was taken aback. He had guessed they might

When Max got upstairs, Tedmond was nowhere to be seen. He searched the guest room, but Tedmond wasn’t there. He decided to check all the other rooms, yet Tedmond was still missing. The last place he hadn’t checked was his own room—and Lisa’s. Turning around, he headed toward the room, his heart pounding against his chest. As he approached the door, he paused. The room was silent, which made him hesitate.‘If Tedmond isn’t in the other rooms, could he be with Lisa?’ he wondered, before reaching for the door. He must not be over her yet.Oddly, the thought of Tedmond being with Lisa made him smile. If that were the case, it would make getting the necklace from him much easier.Opening the door softly, Max peeked inside, only to see Lisa standing there, staring directly at him.“What are you doing?” she asked, her brows arching in confusion.Max straightened up and pushed the door open fully. Without a word, he brushed past her and began searching the room. He checked everywhere—even the

Tedmond made his way downstairs, heading to the one place he knew Max would be. He could tell that if Max met the others there, they would side with him since Tedmond wasn’t in sight. As he approached the kitchen, he heard voices. It was his stepmother and ex-father, speaking so quietly that he couldn’t make out their words.“I can’t believe I have to cook for that brat!” Evelyn cursed loudly, making the maid at the end of the kitchen flinch and frown as she hurriedly cut the fish. “He’s the son of you and that useless maid, and now I have to be a maid to him!”Harold glanced at her, concern etched on his face. “You should be more worried about that,” he said, taking the knife from her and helping cut the fish. “It’s good his mother isn’t around. It’ll be easier to control him once we get custody of his daughter.”Evelyn frowned at his words. “How are we supposed to get custody? Tedmond’s never brought her home before. That means he doesn’t have custody either—it must be with his baby

“What do you mean?!” Max yelled, pulling himself away from his father, but it didn’t work. His arm didn’t seem to hurt as his father gripped it. His mind was still stuck on the words Tedmond had said.‘This can’t be happening!’ Max thought, trying to convince himself. ‘They can’t possibly pick money over me.’However, when he glanced at his parents, they glared at him, expecting him to apologize to Tedmond.“You shouldn’t force him to apologize,” Tedmond told them, making their eyes light up momentarily. But his next words caught them off guard. “I should leave since he doesn’t want me here.”At that, Harold and Evelyn grew paranoid. They couldn’t let him leave without first calling his baby mama and asking her to invest in the company.“Don’t leave yet! We’ll make him apologize!” Evelyn yelled. In a matter of seconds, Max was shoved to his knees before he could react. His eyes widened in shock, and he couldn’t speak, even though he tried.“Apologize to him!” Evelyn yelled the pity sh

From her body language, he could tell that she was telling the truth but hiding something at the same time. However, he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.She turned her gaze to him, realizing how quiet he was.“There’s nothing wrong with school,” Bianca said hurriedly, not wanting to prolong the discussion. “I just wanted to stay home and play games.”Upon hearing her words, Tedmond didn’t say anything more. He simply patted her head softly.“Alright. If you say so,” he replied. “I’ll take you to school then.”Although Tedmond said that, a concerned look flashed in his eyes as he rose to his feet and held out his hand for Bianca to take.“Why don’t you wait for me in the car?” he told her. “I have to go upstairs to

Neil peered at Max, considering his next words. Max had said “years,” as though he and Lisa had been married for a long time. If Tedmond hadn’t told him about Max beforehand, he might have thought Max got married at 14, the way he emphasized the word. After a few seconds of deliberation, Neil placed a hand on his chin. “If she caused so much damage to the company, why doesn’t she take responsibility and fix it?” Neil questioned.Max's eyes widened, clearly unprepared for the question. He tilted his head slightly, as though trying to mask his surprise.“I know she should take responsibility,” Max began, “but she’s so weird she can’t even undo what she’s already done.” He looked back at Neil. “If only you knew what she did, you’d understand.”Neil resisted the urge to grin and instead wore a concerned expression. Max was a smooth talker, but he’d just said the one thing that would prompt Neil to dig deeper into the company’s situation.Seeing no way out, Neil finally asked the question

Tedmond still hadn’t gotten used to Maxine’s voice, and it irritated him every time he heard her try to make a pass at him, despite making it clear he wasn’t interested. As soon as her voice filled the room, he could hear the details of her plans with her father, and a frown crossed his face. Not only did they intend to go after a man with a fiancée, but they also wanted to ensure Maxine got pregnant so she could force her way into being accepted, even if it meant becoming a mistress.Disgusted, Tedmond reached for his phone and dialed a number. The call was answered on the second ring.“Yes, President?” A female voice came through the speaker. The person he had called was Lora. He needed to inform her of something immediately instead of waiting until the next day.“Make sure no one with the Griffin name gets hired, and ban anyone with that name from entering Xinca. We can’t afford trouble in the company anymore.”“Yes, sir. I’ll inform everyone,” she responded. The call ended, and Te

Tedmond glared at Neil, who began fidgeting nervously. He hadn’t meant it that way. He didn’t intend for things to escalate like this. He had just been joking with Hino and was now in deep trouble.“I seriously didn’t mean it that way,” Neil said hurriedly. “I just wanted to joke around with Hino since he kept pestering me to leave without consulting you.”Hino flinched at the accusation. Of course, he had said nothing of the sort. Neil was trying to use him as an excuse to get out of trouble. That was what Neil always did back when they were a boss and an employee.“I’ll be going now, brother,” Bianca said, her beaming smile making it seem like she hadn’t just caused trouble. “Good night.” She kissed him on the cheek and hurried out of the room.Tedmond watched the door close before turning his sharp gaze back to Neil. “Max called, and you decided not to tell me about it? Really?”Neil shook his head rapidly. “No! I didn’t mean to! Hino was the one who asked me not to. Isn’t that rig

The front door of the Washington family mansion opened, and Tedmond stepped inside. His eyes scanned the entrance, searching for any sign of movement. It had been a long day, and he had stayed late at the office to ensure everything was settled. He had seen the news about Duncan’s release after the viral apology post. At first, he thought Duncan would expose the family with the evidence he had gathered, but instead, Duncan had only issued threats.A grin spread across Tedmond’s face. ‘I should meet with Duncan soon.’Just then, his phone buzzed. Pulling it out, he saw a message from Persis.‘Did you get home safe?’ she had written. ‘I’m out at a restaurant in Perseia. You should head out for dinner too.’A smile crept onto his face as he read the message. However, it quickly faded as he ran a hand through his hair before replying.‘I did get home safely. I might eat at home too.’As he raised his head from his phone, preparing to go upstairs, he noticed Thomas standing nearby, as if h

Harold clasped his hands together, praying silently. During those minutes of waiting, he paced back and forth. Maxine and Evelyn sat tensely on edge as they waited for the results to be announced.Lisa, on the other hand, had retired to bed. She had stayed with them until she received a phone call and left.“What is taking them so long?” Harold muttered as though someone could answer him. “And where is Max? What the hell is taking him so long?”Evelyn flinched at his outburst but quickly regained her composure. She had tried to cover for Max, avoiding any comments that might lead Harold to go looking for him. But now, she wasn’t so sure she wanted to help him anymore, given that he had left and failed to return with a solution.“I have no idea,” Evelyn replied, her voice calm but tight. “Why don’t we just ask him when he returns?”Harold stopped pacing and turned to her, his expression hardening. “If he even does return,” he said, his voice thick with frustration. “I told him this was

“Where the hell is Max?” Harold demanded, stomping his feet on the ground. He and Maxine had just returned home and heard about what had happened. He had expected Max to come up with a solution, but to his disappointment, Max was nowhere to be found. No one had any idea where he had gone.Seeing her husband so angry, Evelyn reached out to grab Harold’s arm, trying to calm him down. “Max must have gone to find a solution to our problems. He mentioned he had something on his mind and a plan.”Harold turned to look at his wife. “Are you sure he has a plan? He left with only 59 minutes to go.”Maxine glanced at her wristwatch and shook her head. “There are only 20 minutes left now. Max isn’t answering his phone, and he isn’t coming back. We can’t wait for him, or our reputation will be ruined for nothing. We have to do what they’re asking us to.”Harold glanced at Maxine, pressing his lips together as he tried to think of something. If only Maxine had been able to charm the president, he

Max stared into space as soon as the call ended. He couldn’t understand what Duncan’s second brother was saying. What shocked him even more was the revelation that Duncan had another brother besides Bryan.“Did he just ask us to post an apology and retract everything we said about Duncan?” Evelyn questioned, her eyes wide with disbelief.“That’s right,” Max confirmed. “He said he’d release the evidence Bryan collected if we didn’t.”Gritting her teeth, Evelyn frowned so deeply that her face seemed to harden. She hated that all their plans had been ruined, and now they were at the mercy of Duncan and his brothers. On the other hand, Max paced back and forth, biting his thumb as he tried to think of a solution. Minutes passed, and a deep frown appeared on his face. No ideas came to him—nothing that could salvage their situation.“It seems like we have no choice but to do as they say,” he muttered.“Did you come up with something?” Evelyn asked, her tone laced with desperation.Max shook

You should be at the station comforting him.”Bryan glared at him as soon as the words left his lips. “Did you just say it has nothing to do with you? You’re the ones who ruined his reputation and got him arrested.”Lisa flinched, no longer having the strength to lie. She moved to the side, ready to leave if things got out of hand.“Ugh. I have no idea why someone like you is here,” Max said, running his hand through his hair in frustration. “Just leave.”“That’s right. You’ve come here to accuse us of something we never did,” Evelyn said, frowning at Bryan. “Isn’t this the same thing that happened to your brother? I understand that you’re mad and can’t think straight, but you should at least find the real culprit and not try to pin it on someone else as they did to him. Actually, it might not even be a lie, considering
