CHAPTER 41: THE MAIDEN'S FORTUNE.
The lady at the door greeted Aurelia with a profound smile, a contrast to what Aurelia had expected of her that morning.

"What's it?" Aurelia's voice dripped with disdain, "What is the meaning of this interruption?"

"I-I beg your pardon, my lady," the lady stammered, offering the parcel with trembling hands, "A man at the gate insisted I deliver this to you." Her tone was calm but her voice was shaky.

Aurelia's eyes narrowed as she inspected the package before her. With a dismissive wave of her hand, she spat, "Take it away. I want nothing from the likes of you. Your filthy hands have tainted it."

But then, the lady maintained her posture. " I apologize for that, Ma" Her heart sank as she retreated from the room, her cheeks burning with humiliation.

As she reached her modest quarters tucked away in a corner of the vast compound, she sank onto her bed, tears stinging her eyes.

Ellen's quarters were a three-bedroom apartment, nicely arranged on the third floor of the worker's quarters
