From Squalor To Splendor

Chapter 12

They could not believe the doctor and were silently staring at him with raised eyebrows.

Even though her daughter was not legally married, Mrs. Lorelei was not sure if she should be pleased that she was expecting a child. Or she should be upset because Isabella ended her relationship with Justin, the child's father.

On the contrary, Liam was trying to process everything, convincing himself that if Isabella was truly pregnant, things would not go as planned.

Of course, he was aware that the pregnancy was not for him, but for Justin because he had just had s*x with Isabella that day. So… she could not possibly become pregnant on that day.

It was evidence that the pregnancy was Justin's and not his.

“Are you certain about what you said?” To ensure that the doctor was not taking advantage of their intelligence, Mrs. Lorelei inquired again about what the doctor had said.

“It appears that you are having difficulty believing me. Should I go get you a pregnancy test? Maybe that will give you enough proof to believe me,” the doctor said, his expression solemn and composed.

Instead of waiting for Mrs. Lorelei to respond, Liam jumped right into the conversation, “Yes. We need to see the results of the test. We cannot believe what you said unless you provide evidence.”

"Hmm… why are you all having trouble believing me? Were you told by another doctor that your wife is unable to conceive? Or…”

“Please bring the pregnancy test and refrain from asking unnecessary questions.” Mrs. Lorelei cut into the doctor's words, causing him to pause halfway through his statement.

“I will do that, ma'am. Pardon my manners,” the doctor apologized and quickly turned around to leave.

He was about to leave, though, when he suddenly remembered something and turned to face them. “What is the full name of the patient?”

“Isabella… Isabella Robert,” Mrs. Lorelei responded, her body quivering from what she had just heard.

“Thank you,” muttered the doctor as he took a pen from his chest pocket and scribbled the name on the small booklet in his hand.

He quickly turned around and left after doing so.

Mrs. Lorelei turned her gaze to Liam, who was leaning against the wall and closing his eyes as the doctor walked away. He was disturbed by the pregnancy news.

“Who are you? And how are you related to my daughter?” Mrs. Lorelei called for Liam's attention.

He briskly opened his eyes and removed his back from the wall. He stood in front of the old woman, his gaze fixed on the ground.

“Answer me?” Mrs. Lorelei shouted at Liam. “I hope you were not the cause of Isabella and Justin's breakup.”

“Me?” he finally raised his head, trying to defend himself. “ I am not sure if they split up because of me, but I am certain it was not because of me. Your daughter is the only person who can tell you everything. So, I suggest we wait for her to recover before asking her why she ended her relationship with Justin.”

Mrs. Lorelei frowned at him and said, “It shouldn't be what I'm thinking because you will hate me. Again, I hope you are not here to use your money to take her away from Justin because I will not allow it. Yes. Because he had been through a lot as a result of us. So I cannot stand by and watch someone take Isabella away from Justin just because they have money. I am confident that Justin will become a wealthy man someday.”

Mrs. Lorelei, on the other hand, had forgotten what Isabella had told her about Justin becoming a wealthy man.

Liam could not help but stare at the woman, unsure what to say. It was clear from the start that it would be difficult to win Isabella's heart because her mother was unwilling to release her to anyone apart from Justin.

Liam, on the other hand, was not ready to give up on Isabella because she was the reason his partnership with the Transcorp Group of Conglomerates had been dissolved. No, he can not go through it alone.

Liam, on the other hand, was convinced that Justin would not accept Isabella again because he had found a new lover for himself.

The medical doctor arrived at the scene with a paper in his hand, just as the corridor fell silent.

He was reading it as he approached the two people who were eagerly awaiting his arrival where they were standing.

“Here is the test result, ma'am," the doctor said as he handed Mrs. Lorelei the paper.

She grabbed the paper and yanked it from the doctor's grasp without hesitation. Mrs. Lorelei quickly went through the test results.

Nonetheless, Liam didn't hesitate to peep through to see what was in the result to be convinced about what he was told earlier.

They were taken aback when they discovered the pregnancy news was true, leaving them perplexed.

Liam became enraged, his mind racing with a thousand thoughts. Even if Isabella was pregnant, he was not going to let her go.

However, something popped up in his mind. He was prepared to persuade Isabella to terminate the pregnancy even if her mother refused.

Nonetheless, Liam was confident that Mrs. Lorelei would accept him in time because Justin would never accept Isabella as his girlfriend again. Not after she had betrayed him.

Mrs. Lorelei was certain that the unborn child belonged to Justin after learning that her daughter was indeed pregnant. Of course, Justin was the only man she knew who was in a relationship with her daughter. So, there was nothing to doubt that he was the father of the unborn child.

“Madam, the patient is awake. You can enter the ward and check on her if you wish to.” the doctor announced before he left.

Immediately the doctor was out of sight Mrs. Lorelei quickly unzipped the small purse she had brought with her, ready to contact Justin and inform him of the pregnancy.
